There are kettles in the apartments. It is about a 10-20 minute stroll to town depending how fast you walk, not very in the heat! We are looking forward to our 4th visit in a couple of weeks. The apartments are very clean, and usually you can request a low level one which would suit all ages better. Hope you enjoy.
SUPERB!!!
John, There is an ATM in Kalamaki, Next door to the Pharmacy on the main road. Car Hire - Go and see Julie at Merlis. The office is located at the top end of Kalamaki, opposite Taverna Paris.
julie you have to abide by greek reallity they chillout and things sometimes take them a little longer than in the uk but they bend over backwards to make you enjoy yourself the airport is basic and the new terminal has taken a while to construct , but just look how long its taking to get the new wembely built!!!. zante and kalamaki in particular are a must for a superb holiday so everyone , why not give it a go and you will want to go back again and again as we have.
it was great there the food was excellent, the pool was excellent, the staff was polite and friendly. They had walkers crips the sweets and toys were cheap, they had lovely milkshakes it didnt make you feel sick. The rooms were homely and the beds were very very comfortable. They had a snooker table, ping pong table and a bar.Theres a lounge room where you can play board games and use the computer.About 15 minutes away theres CRAZY GOLF.Im 10 and i loved it and going back again in a couple of weeks...sophie....
we stayed here june/july 05, and we loved it so much that we are going back again with 2 other families that we met out there in 4 weeks time. what i would like to know it for those who have been a few time is there any change at the airport, as last year waiting for you luggage for up to 1 hour was not good . the reps were saying that the new terminal was ment to be opening this year, but they also said that the year before, so is there any improvement on arriving and departing. welcome to any replies.
stayed here with first choise in july 2005 with our family and relatives. had a really good time and would come back again. forget the aircraft noise people talk about it only lasts a second and its gone. facilities superb pool really good and clean staff can not do enough for you and if james the rep is stll there he is brilliant . ps james sorry the kids tried to drown you but you were a freally good sport throughout our stay.
Yes, I know...... This isn't the play area at Amaryllis. Even so, its a great place to stay.
going to kalamaki in october. Would like some info on the 18 hole mini golf..cost etc
Just back from 2 weeks at the Amaryills Aparthotel, first class hotel with big size studio, very clean
thanx for a great holiday, it was ace we has a family thought it was brill the service was at its best . the english lady behind the desk was wonderfull, could not do enough, but all the staff were the same thanx again the big family, shaun dawn billie joshua leo athena and sophie x ho yes james the rep was good too x
Excellent clean apartments in a great location. Staff at reception and in bar are fantastic. Very family friendly with park and and plenty of kids play areas. I would definitely go back again.
Just back from our third brilliant holiday here. Best apartments I've stayed at in all of Greece. Very clean. can't fault it.
Stayed at the Amaryllis June last year for a week, loved it, returning September 27th for two weeks this time. We loved everything about the apartments and the resort. Very peaceful and relaxing holiday, going later this year so not sure what weather will be like and what to pack, would be grateful for any info that might help to keep my wifes case within limits !!!!
Haven't been to these apartments but to reply to Jemma Sene:- We have just come back from Kalamaki and did not experience any problems at all. We had a lovely relaxing, peaceful time. There are not that many 'bars' is Kalamaki- mainly restaurants and tavernas. We did walk along the beach one day into Laganas and quickly turned round!!It's hard to believe the two resorts are on the same island let alone next to each other ,whilst in Kalamaki you will forget it's there. The scooter riders are a bit mad but this is not a 'Zante' thing, it happens in lots of countries. Whilst we were there, the only time we saw a full bar was for the Big Brother final!! We have a 11 year old and so choose our holidays carefully, we would definitely go back. Don't worry- you'll have a great time!!!
Hi, we are thinking of booking the Amaryllis apartments. Can anyone tell me how much we can expect to pay for the air. con.? Thanks!
Hi I am travel agent and have booked to take my mum and dad to greece for the first time ever(they love spain)and all Im hearing from my mum is Ive heard there toilets are really bad,I wont be able to flush them or go a loo. Please can some one help me reassure her.
Just returned from a week at the Amaryllis. We had a 1 bed apartment which was spacious and clean. Gardens were nice and the pool was great for the kids with lots of sunbeds. The mini market is well stocked and the food at the pool bar is good. This is an ideal family location. It is just off the main strip which means it is much quieter at night. Kalamaki is nice with lots of restaurants and bars and much quieter than Laganas which is 10 minutes away. Zante Town is also only a 10 minute drive and worth a visit.
as far as I am concerned there is no need to worry about what you see in the papers re: Laganas. It is a good ten mins way by car and Kalamaki is excellent, we are going to Amaryllis tomorrow for the third year running and we wouldnt keep taking the kids there if it wasn't good.
Hi everyone my partner and i are coming to Kalamaki in 5 weeks time (really excited) altough a little concerned that Lagana is only a little distance away. Were you effected by this at all - i am looking forward to a nice relaxed holiday with pleasant bars and resturants to visit and would hate to have to bump into a 18 to 30's night out. thanks
Hi Clare Thomas, me and my daughter were here in October last year for the last week of the season. The days were plenty hot enough to spend on the beach, although much shorter than in the summer months. The evenings were a bit nippy, you need to take a sweatshirt type top or similar. Hope this helps, have a great time, we've just returned from our 4th time in Zante.
Hi, we have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Amaryllis and thought it was fantastic. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was huge, and absolutely spotless, the maids were in every day and did a great job. The gardens are also large and well maintained, you will always see someone working on them. There is plenty of room by the pool, unlike others we saw, and you can lie on sunbeds listening to music from the pool bar, or sit in the shade by the pool bar watching the swimming pool. Linda on reception is brilliant, you can ask her anything and she will do her best to help you. We also thought location was good, just under 10 min walk to beach, 2 min to beginning of strip and 20 min walk to end of strip. A brilliant holiday was had by all and would definitely return here again.
Stayed here last August with First Choice, absolutely loved it,
apartments were extremely clean, with good facilities and friendly
staff. Rooms had TV,fridge etc etc, all you need on a holiday!
Also loved Kalamaki - loved sitting on the beach with the planes coming over your head :D.
Going back this August - cant wait, with Thomson at the Roseland Hotel,
only reason we are not going to Amaryllis is because the Roseland is
only slightly more expensive than the Amaryllis, and its B&B, and
also we can fly from our local airport with Thomson (Leeds Bradford),
instead of trailing with First Choice (Manchester).
Anyone going here will have a fab time :).
Hi,im off to kalamaki in october this year, just wondering how hot it will be!!need a sun tan? Im stayin in this hotel and was wondering is it any good!? x
Hi all, we are thinking of booking into the amaryllis in august 06 with 2 15 year olds it will be our first time in greece is it a good first choice!!!!
Staying at the Amaryllis next week, recommendations for resturaunts please (not pie and chip ones either) Thanks
Just returned from Amaryllis.
In reply to Andy. The hotel is good and there are many other pools which you would be able to go to during the day.
Stayed for two weeks here late May 05.
Hello evry1! Could anybody tell us, is this really a hotel for familys? there are 4 of us comin out in a couple of weeks (all aged 19) and are wondering if we should really be goin to other, more lively pools, during the day?
The place to the left of Amaryllis is The Bitzaro Palace Hotel
does anyone know what the name is of the complex next door (to the left as you look up at the main door) to Amaryllis is called please?
I stayed at the Amaryllis in the last 2 weeks of July last year with my parents and brother. To say the least we loved it. The atmosphere in and around the hotel was friendly and very welcoming. There is plenty of nightlife, shops and restaurants just around the corner and the beach (which is popular for the turtles) is about a 5 minute walk away. The hotel itself has a warm atmosphere. It is located evry clsoe to the flight path but the noise isn't bothering at all. The cleanliness is excellent, the maids come in daily and tidy up and change the beds. The rooms are spacious and there is plenty of room for suitcases and any other things. The mini market and the poolside bar is very good for price and choice. The pool is clean and activities (internet access, table tennis) are always available.
I have been to Zante 3 times now and both the 2nd and the 3rd time we stayed at the Amaryllis. Last time we stayed at the Amaryllis (July 2004) i was 15 and went with my parents my 13 yr old sister, 2 of my aunties and my aunties boyfriend, in the second week of the holiday we were then joined by family friends . It was a great family holiday and my sister and I were able to make friends and go out with them even late at night because Kalamaki has such a friendly atmosphere. The hotel is very nice and all the staff are very friendly and helpful... especially everyones favourite barman Panos! The Amaryllis is a fair sized hotel but small compared to the hotel next door, but this is a good thing because over the 2 weeks that we spent there we were able to meet nice people and know most peoples faces. We found that other guests were very friendly also. In my opinion staying at The Amaryllis and going to Zante has been my favourite holiday. Its an unforgettable place that i can not wait to return to. I also strongly recommend that you visit The Down Under Bar which isn't far from The Amaryllis.
Hi, The ground floor does have fences round the patio doors. Its a great place to stay, I'm sure your have a wonderful time there.
Does anyone know whether the ground floor rooms have railings or walls (to stop our toddler from toddling into the pool!)
Any help gratefully received.
Michelle, Iv been to Kalamaki for the past two years in May. 2003 was really, really hot and last year was more cloudy. Still plenty of sun to get a nice tan with though. We're going back to the Amaryliss 10th May this year and just cant wait. Counting the days already!
this hotel is fantastic we have been there twice may 2003 and september 2004 the 2nd time we stayed when we got married on zante and the staff and mangement were fantastic. the hotel is in a good situation and is very clean, will certainly be returning
Am thinking of going to Kalamaki early May 05. Can anyone advise what the weather is like at that time of year? Also there is much talk of building work near to the Amaryllis. Does anyone have the latest on this?
Thanks
Just back from a great week in Zante. First package holiday for a long time and the Amaryllis made it for us. Very clean spacious 2 bedroom apartment. Kids loved the pool and play area. Food at the pool bar good and very reasonably priced, as was the mini market. Spectacular views of planes landing and taking off, but with no night flights it was more entertainment than disturbance! Nice location on the edge of town, though a little more than the advertised 400m from beach. Good restaurants close by. Definitely recommend these apartments! A note for those thinking of travelling in the last week of season, if you are thinking of trips etc, then do them early in the week as the island literally closes around you during the week.
We have just returned from a week at these lovely apartments. They were very spacious, and very clean, the bedding & towels were changed 3 times in one week. The receptionist Linda was lovely, and very helpful, the man on in the evening did come across as being grumpy, but he did speak & smile a few times! The pool bar does gorgeous food, and again the staff were lovely. We would definately return again.
Just returned from Amaryllis Aparthotel. Couldn't fault it - apart from planes. But no night flights and we were out most of the day. The double-glazing and shutters cut out most of the noise early morning.
Closeness to airport meant we took taxi on arrival and departure - 5 minutes and 10 euros. Better than the transfer coaches especially when returning - can set off an hour after the buses and miss an hour's queueing outside the terminal.
The apartments were roomy and very clean. Ideal for families with swimming-pool and children's play area as well as pool and table-tennis.
Good mini-market and snack bar.
5 minutes stroll to beach.
Must say thanks to very helpful Lynda on reception - Manchester lass.
We stayed at the Amaryllis for 2 weeks this cotober.accommadation very clean, Linda (girl on reception) was very nice, nothing was too much trouble, food at the restaraunt was good. There isnt a lot to do in Kalamaki, and i wouldnt reccommend going into Laganas unless your after a pub crawl! it is just one bar after another, and not at all as clean as Kalamaki.Nice place to eat is Crystal beach hotel, there is a little beach in front of the hotel and the public can use all the ammeneties, food there is brilliant.weather not too good at this time of year, but cant complain as we had 10 good days. If your thinking of going, take a can of fly spray as there were a lot of flies about. enjoy your holiday.
The Amaryllis Aparthotel - what can I say but excellent in every respect!
Oh apart from Linda the receptionist's IT skills!! Only kidding Linda :-) We were glad to be of some help to you - Jo and Guy D25
Apartments were clean & well furnished. Location good, just a short walk to the main high street & beach.
Didn't spend much time hanging around the pool or bar, etc, but we would recommend it to anybody considering staying in Kalamaki
I stayed at the Amaryllis for the 1st two weeks in September. I agree with the comments about the cleanliness of the apartments, they are immaculate and the maids are very unobtrusive, we just sat on the balcony while they cleaned.
It takes about 4 minutes to walk to Kalamaki high street from the apartments and there are some great restuarants and bars there including 'down under' and 'the cave'
Lounging by the pool was our favorite option and I have to mention the great FirstChoice rep. I wasn't feeling very well for the first week and one of the reps rushed me to the pharmacy before it closed. There is an English speaking lady there and I was charged 21 euros for some antibiotics and painkillers, a bit expensive but worth it for the sake of the holiday! A great place to stay and I would definately stay there again if I ever return to Zante. :)
HAS ANYONE BOOKED DIRECT RECENTLY, AND DO YOU HAVE TO PAY A DEPOSIT?
We went to the amaryllis in july of this year and we were a bit disapointed in wot entertainment there was! yeah its only karaoke and bingo but who knows maybe they will have added something else by next year!!! We cant wait 2 return!!!
We are planning to visit Amaryllis next year. Can anybody give us any more information about the evening entertainments programme here? We have two children who will be 9 and 11 at date of travel and we need to know if there is anything for them. Are there discos, quizzes, shows etc, or does the entertainment just consist of karaoke on a Thursday and bingo and something on a Saturday night.
Any information you can give us would be appreciated.
Many thanks.
Another great holiday at Amaryllis. Rooms, cleanliness and everything brilliant except the girl in the shop never smiles! Get a glass bottom boat trip from Laganas beach and you will see turtles. If you want to visit the water park, go after 2.30pm as the price is half as much and there is enough to go on till it closes.
Just back from 2 weeks holiday at Amaryllis Aparthotel and can thoroughly recommend it. We went as a party of 8, 4 kids and 4 adults, and although the resort is very quiet we all had a great time with the kids loving the pool and beach as well as 'hunting' for small lizards and frogs. Our rooms were spotless and regularly cleaned with feesh towels and bed linen left on a regular basis. The hotel staff were very friendly and the mini-market, bar and lounge were all more than adequate. We all enjoyed the Karaoke and bingo nights which again were more than suitable for kids. Both the pools were very clean and were more than enough loungers to cater for everyone. Although the airport is 'very' close, the over head noise does was never a problem with no flights at night. The main street of Kalamaki was pleasantly non commercial and had plenty restaurants and bars. Only thing to look out for are the mad drivers who 'own' the road. Overall we had a fantastic holiday and would highly recommend it, especially to families with young kids or couples who are not looking for a 'party' type holiday. We will be back!
We have just returned from a two week holiday in Zakynthos, staying at the Amaryllis Aparthotel in Kalamaki. The Amaryllis Apartments are ideal for anyone seeking a fairly quiet and relaxing holiday.
The staff and rep were all extremely friendly and helpful. The apartments were very clean although linen is only changed 2 times a week (sometimes the towels and sheets felt a bit grimely with all the sun tan lotion and sand etc!).
We did not receive any information on making calls from the room however. We have an international call account with a company which provides you with free-phone access numbers from the country you are in. We top up this account before3 going abroad and that is how we pay for calls. We used it in the USA last year and in Barcelona at Easter time with no problems and only had to pay a couple of cents for the inital dial up to the freephone number and found it to be a very cheap way of phoning home. However, at Amaryllis we were hit with a massive phone bill upon departure even thought we had topped the account up with £20 before we left which meant we had paid £20 over and above the bill we received. Moral of the story - use the pay phone at reception.
During our first week (week beginning 25th July) there was no need to reserve loungers at the pool, however, by the second week the pool was notably busier and people were getting up early to put their towels down. However when a lot of families took their kiddies in doors during the hottest hours in the day, loungers again became available.
The staff are all very friendly and they get to know everyone staying there which makes the complex seem to be a very secure environment. Saftey deposit boxes are siutated in the main lobby rather than in the rooms but at now point did this present any problems. The rep, Elaine is ever so helpful and went out of her way to help and ensure we enjoyed a great holiday (she even arranged a birthday cake and flowers for our anniversary during our stay!).
There is formal entertainment on Thursdays (karaoke) and Saturdays (Cash Bingo and Play your cards right) and there are films showed most other evenings. The entertainment is very much on a take it or leave it basis but a lot of the people from the complex do come down for a few drinks in the evenings and the prices are fairly reasonable.
We took Euro travellers cheques and exchanged them at the reception and for every 100€ traveller cheque we got 98€ back which is not bad at all (the reception charges 2% commission on Euro travellers cheques).
We hired a car but did this through the rep which, although more expensive, had all the necessary insurances and collision waivers etc included in the Eurocar price. We drove to Smugglers Cove and the water park ourselves rather than doing those organised trips through the tour company. The roads are quite honestly unbelieveable! There are very few signposts, although the island is so small that you can go from South to North in about 45mins. We did have to stop and ask for directions a few times but it was no big deal. The Euro car map that we got with the car was perhaps not the best as it focuses on the "main towns" (if you can call them that), however, we had a few other variations of maps to fill in the blanks and that really helped. We hired one of the Jimmy Jeeps and had to use the four wheel drive on a couple of occasions! Although this was undoubtedly the best way to see the island.
We would highly recommend Kalamaki and the Amaryllis Aparthotel and hope to return at some point in the future.
We would highly recommend the Amaryllis to anyone visiting Kalamaki. We booked direct over the internet and saved a substantial amount of money.
There are no hidden extras, for example, the air conditioning is included in the price. It only cost us a few euros for a taxi ride to and from the airport.
We had a two bedroomed apartment. It was very clean and spacious, fresh linen and towels were provided on a regular basis.
The aircraft noise was not a problem for us we found them quite fascinating.
One thing i would suggest if any medical problems occur, unless it is just minor, is to visit a doctor rather than a chemist. My
husband got an ear infection (apparantely caused by water in the ears from swimming and the air conditioning) and was given some eardrops and antibiotics from the chemist, which did not help, instead it became progressively worse. We visited a doctor in the end which was recommended by the rep from the Amaryllis.
Overall our stay at the Amaryllis was excellent. Zante is a beautiful island and Kalamaki a lovely resort.
Our only disappointment was that we never saw any turtles. Maybe next time!
Hello everybody. I am due to stay in Amaryllis end of aug with my partner - I am really looking forward to it as it sounds great. I have a couple of questions I was wondering if people would people would be able to help me with?
1. The cheapest place to cash travellers cheques, and if sterling or euro best? I have heard cheaper to take stering cheques rather than euro.
2.How old you have to be to hire car (I am 19 and driving 18 mounths)? As Merlis hire sounds good.
3. If anybody knows if there is a map (preferably with roads marked on) of he whole of the island avalable on the internet anywhere?
Thanks and looking forward to seeing anybody who is going end of Aug
Vicky
We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Amaryllis. We found the resort to be of a very high standard. Apartments were very clean and bedrooms were very spacious, however we were a bit disappointed in the living area of our 2 bedroom appartment as there really wasn't one. The pool area was very clean and tidy with plenty of sunloungers and parasols to use at no extra cost. The aircrafts flew very near to the resort but noise was not a problem. The mini-market was very useful as was the snack bar, where there was a good variety of food to choose from. One more thing that we would like to point out about the apartments; we found that we had to pay 8 euros per day for our 2 bedroomed apartment for airconditioning as this was not included in the price of our holiday and at this time of the year airconditioning is a must. The hotel phone at the reception is directly on the reception desk and we did find that whenever we wanted to make a call the male receptionist whether busy or not would come over, sit at the desk and give you no privacy to make your phone call which was incredibly annoying to say the least. Particularly if you were a female guest. However you will find a pay phone up on the main road if you prefer your call to be private. Although we have stated that we did have a couple of miner problems we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks at the Amaryllis.
Having returned from the Amaryllis on the 27th July I would like to recommend a few things to all that are going there in the future.
The boat trip around the island is a must. If you're as lucky as we are you may even see the famous turtles! P.s cheaper to book from one of the companies on the main road. (13 euros p/p rather than 30 euros p/p with the rep!! They all do exactly the same thing!) Do go to the 'Down Under' bar, it's the best bar in Kalamaki by far! Be warned the barmen like to throw ice at you!! Mermaids restaurant is a must the best food and the best staff!
Watch out for the gypsies selling roses, not only do they pest you but they try and steel from you as well!!! The planes that are a concern are the ones that land and take off at 5:30am they will wake you up! (I have tried to insert a picture to show you how close they are to the resort!)
DON'T go to the water park!! It is so small and basic. It costs 25 euros p/p! Save your money and stay by the pool in the resort!
All in all the Amaryllis, it's staff and the rep (Elaine) are fantastic and I would recommend the resort to couples and families alike. Have a great time.
don't worry mate, the noise really is not a problem. the airport isn't heathrow and after a day looking at the planes you won't even realise them. There's probably about 10-20 planes a day.
Amaryllis was the best place me and the mrs could hope for. met a really great couple there with their daughter and had some wicked nights with them. the staff are superb, especially Panos the barman, (what a legend). Hotel was clean and modern and the airplane noise isn't really noticable. had great fun with the staff when greece won the final, what a night!! Location was great, only 5 mins to beach. Recommend getting a pedlo, 10 euros, and we saw turtles every time. take snorclin gear tho. Loved it to bits.
We have just returned from amaryllis and what a fantastic holiday wish we were there longer a week is not enough. Apartment was spotless
as was the whole complex. Everybody so friendly where ever you went,we ate at a few places but our favourites were Michaloes and paris at the other end of Kalamaki. Down Under is good fun and good entertainment. Our favourite bar was the cave bar open from 8pm with lovely views and the novel ride on the buggy up to the bar is a must. The cocktails are delicous and reasonably priced the back ground music not too loud.
A walk along the beach to Laganas takes approx 45 mins but we were glad we were staying in Kalamaki it was too busy for us here but worth the walk with plenty of bars on the beach there to refresh yourself for the walk back! I would recommend walking barefoot in the lovely clear warm sea its so cooling and invigorating we did this both ways.
Hope you all have a fantastic holiday as we have. Julie woods
greece win euro 32004 fantastic, back to Zante in 3 weeks , see you all soon.
Cheers
got back on monday and have to say that i was thrilled with the amaryllis!! absolutely spotless! lovely, friendly staff and tasty food!! we were going into lagana most nites and taxi was 6euros and only about 5mintues journey!! location for us was brilliant! being outside lagana meant we could get a nights sleep before hitting the beach - which is only 5-10mins easy walk from there. really hope to return!! lots of love to Panos the bar man for sorting us out with Pimms!! will be back soon to finish it off at the pool!! Thanks for a great holiday amaryllis!!
Holiday was first class, ate at most resturants all good.
It's a family hotel, no good for adults only at the bar late at night to many kids on the run.
Would recommend to couples with young children.
The rep was first class new her stuff. Jac sends her thanks for taking her out on Friday nights
we have just returned from the amaryllis complex tue 22/6/04 after spending two fabulous weeks there with the two kids (as others couldn't get them out of pool all day).. well let me just say what a fantastic place, anyone going there it's as good as every one says it is.wonderful staff (hello lynda on reception,or should i say britney,) any one due out soon say hello to her for me ,just say john travolta says hello, she will know what you mean......the rep is wonderful too hello, elaine . dont worry about building work ,if a tortoise was building them they would finish them sooner.... go to beach about 5pm its the best time to spot the turtles.we spotted loads ,if you go out about waiste deep . once again anyone going soon you lucky things couldnt fault anything
Just got back on Sunday 13th. Had absolutely brilliant time in Kalamaki - Amaryllis was the perfect location, within easy walking distance of town and beach. Pool area was clean and well maintained, could not keep my boys out of it. They even preferred pool to going to beach. Rooms were kept clean and maid service was really good as well. Karaoke night on a Thursday night was a complete family even with the kids getting up and singing as well as the adults. Aircraft noise not really a concern and neither was the building work (when they were actually there) across the road. Would definitely go back again.
Hi there! I am a 16 year old girl and will be visiting Amaryllis Aparthotel in the middle of July with my mum, dad , and younger sister of 12. We are all really looking forward to it and i was wondering that if any of the people that read this and have been to the Amaryllis could tell me how good it actually is! Like what the service is like, the food, the pool area, the airport nosies, etc.
thankyou very much!!!
Having returned from Zante on Sunday I can honestly say that it was a fabulous holiday. The apartment is clean and spacious - the maids even fold your pyjamas for you - leave a good tip!
The hotel was friendly, not over imposing and if you are looking for an Ibiza type (young and loud) holiday, don't bother going there - go to Laganos.
We hired a jeep from Merlis which was more like a dodgem, but it was great fun and we got to see all the island in 3 days virtually. The airport was tiny - more like a tennis court than a place for 3000 Brits trying to get home on a busy Sunday morning! You have to queue outside but they are building a new terminal which should be completed in about .... well this is Greece! Apparrently, all the monies for the Olympics are being sent there - hence no bigger airport!
As for the building and the aircraft - no problems whatsoever - I certainly wouldn't have cancelled it!
So enjoy the island and the hotel. This website has been excellent for me - very informative and helpful. Thank you everyone!
hi zoe we are also going on tues, we are very much looking forward to it after reading all the coments . see you there
hi im going to there apartments on tue 8/6/04 is any one else going?
im so excited will i see any turtels?
just spent 2weeks at the amaryllis with my fiance and 4yr old son and really enjoyed it, all the staff were very friendly and helpful, great with the kids. Had no problems at all with the building work opposite, infact we didn't really see or hear a thing. would definitely recommend the amaryllis to anyone wishing to stay in zante, we'll almost certainly be going back. trips around the island are a must especially to see the shipwreck, blue caves etc, costs from about 15euros, and it's worth taking a stroll along kalamaki beach to laganas where there are a slightly wider range of shops, restaurants and tavernas, if you're not up to the walk a taxi is only 6euros. for anyone who is off to zante and especially the amaryllis i'm sure you'll have a great holiday.
I have just returned from the Amaryllis today, and have read peoples comments below regarding the Building work. Julie's assessment is true, the work didn't bother us in the slightest. Yes, we saw workmen, but you had to peer over the boundrey wall to realise they were there. We heard no noise, but as previously reported, the rooms are just shells, with only a few having balcony railings fitted. The Amaryllis is a superb place for a holiday. I would recommend it to anyone, especially those with kids.
I've been reading the comments re building work and trying not to get too concerned. I think that First choice should be advising people of this as I wouldn't have known anyhthing if it hadn't been for this site. We're going at the end of June so hopefully things should be completed by then. Can anyone tell me how big the resort actually is. From reading some comments you get the impression it's quite large and spread out. Is this the case?
Hi Robert and anyone else thats going soon.
I have just tried to add a picture that I took 2 years ago of the 'work in progress',but I haven't received my password yet.
So here is the adrress of a copy of it,
http://www.hotelmetaxa.com/amar.jpg
We were back in Kalamaki last year and they had finished the roof.
I can't imagine that the work required to complete it would take too long or disrupt your Holiday at the Amaryllis.
You can't see it from the picture but there is a road between the Amaryllis and this building block.
We stayed in the Metaxa hotel across the road from the Amaryllis while the Massive Hotel Bitzaro Grande was being built 3 years ago, during the day there was some noise but not enough to make us move from the pool. At the end of the day there was some dust settling on the sun umbrellas but in no way did it spoil our holiday.
If the building work is just the completion of the block in the picture then I wouldn't be bothered by it at all.
Hope this helps, if you havwe any more questions I will try and answer them.
Enjoy your holiday , Kalamaki is a beautiful place.
Coming back to Kalamaki for the 5th time in July. Have stayed at the Amaryllis 2 years ago and the other 3 times at the Hotel Metaxa across the road( beer is cheaper at the Metaxa).
We had a great time at the Amaryllis and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to any one, although in my opinion it is more geared up for families than for couples.
We are usually quite tired on our first day, so we tend to not go very far to eat. So it has to be Paolos, just across the main road
This is no hardship as it is 1 of our 2 favorite restaurants in Kalamaki, (the other being Mikaelos). At Paolos one night last year we couldn't decide what main courses to have so we asked for lots of starters. The waiters looked really pleased and even suggested dishes that are not on the menu. The table was absolutely covered in small dishes.
If like us you like to try many dishes, give Paolos a try, I am sure you won't be dissapointed. And its right on your doorstep.
The waiters have always been very friendly and even gave our daughter a fleece one night when it was a bit chilly.
Have just been updated in the last hour from Thomas Cook (First Choice)that the building work is not COMPLETE but the work will be done by the end of May, so thats 2 dates I have been given in the last four hours.
PS
I HAVE BEEN TOLD TO PHONE THEM AT THE END OF MAY FOR FURTHER UPDATES AS THEY REFUSE TO FAX ME, I WONDER WHY?
Have contacted first choice who informed me over the phone that all building work was complete in the middle of May, have requested they send me a fax confirming me that it's ok so i can take it with me on holiday. (JUST IN CASE THE BUILDERS START AGAIN)
The new hotel is the other side of a small lane behind the swimming pool. It did not look very big and not a lot seemed to be happening with the work while we were there (we got back on Tuesday). It didn't bother us at all. The building is complete and whitewashed, the swimming pool looks like its finished (minus the water!) but there are no windows or doors on it, basically it is just a shell.
The Amaryliss, however, is lovely. We couldn't believe our luck. It is really clean, the rooms are spacious (we had a one bed apartment) and the staff are very helpful. Would not hesitate to go back (hopefully next year).
Hi,
We have booked the Amarylis for a holiday in August 05!! Have read most of your comments and am very pleased but I would be grateful for feedback on this new building that seems to be very clode to the hotel
Thanks
Mick
Hi, my husband, myself and two kids are flying out on 30 May. Has anybody seen the building work that is going on? We are obviously concerned about the amount of noise and disruption. Also we would like to see as much of the island as we can, are there good trips to go on? Would appreciate any info you can give.
After reading recent comments about building work, becoming a bit worried over our stay there end of June. Never been before and the info about bars/restaurants has been very helpful. Doing the holiday on a budget, which are best value? We would be grateful for any extra comments. Thanks, Julie & Dave
We also received a letter from First Choice regarding the building work, I contacted the customer services department who advised that it may spoil the holiday and have therefore accepted a full refund - no hassle.
I will attempt to take a pic or two. Hopefully it won't be too bad.
GARY I WILL TRY TAVERNA PARIS AND MAYBE MERMAIDS, ALTHOUGH WE SPENT MOST NIGHTS IN ANGEL BAR WE NEVER ATE AT MERMAIDS WHICH HAS THE SAME OWNER CON. MY SISTER & HER DAUGHTER TRIED MOST OF THE RESTAURANTS ON THEIR VISIT 2 YRS AGO & WE TRIED A FEW LAST YEAR INCLUDING CHIVES WHICH WE DISLIKED MORE THAN ANY OTHERS. WE JUST LIKED LAMBROS SO MUCH WE WENT EVERY NIGHT IN SEPT/OCT. WE HAVE EATEN AT MERLIS BUT STILL DID NOT ENJOY OUR MEAL AS MUCH AS THOSE WE HAD AT LAMBROS, MAYBE WE WILL TRY OTHER PLACES THIS TIME, NO DOUBT WE WILL MEET UP DURING THE WEEK.
Gary, if you do get a chamne to take a photograph whilst you are out there, it would be intersting to see whats happening. Thanks for your previous answer!!
Hope you enjoy your holiday
We are also going Whit week to the Amaryllis and have had a letter from First Choice about the building work.
Has anyone been yet and found out how things are really going???
I think I will be really disappointed if I have to look at builders bums all day long!!!!!
Jean, we also go out on Sunday from Manchester. I will take up your advice re; Lambros. The last time we went there, it wasn't too special, but we will try again. See u there
Gary, thanks but I doubt you'll get a chance to post a message before we leave, we're flying out on Tuesday. Lets hope its not too bad.
Thanks Jean for your comments also. Hope to see you all there next week.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD RESTAURANT WHILST STAYING IN KALAMAKI I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TRY LAMBROS. I WAS IN KALAMAKI TWICE LAST YEAR IN MAY & SEPT/OCT & HAVE YET TO FIND SOMEWHERE WITH BETTER MEALS OR SERVICE. THE RESTAURANT IS RUN BY NECK & HIS SISTER VICKY, TRY THE ZAKYNTHIAN LAMB IT'S FANTASTIC, BUT THEN I ONLY WANT TO EAT GREEK MEALS WHILE IN GREECE, I CAN'T STAND BURGERS OR PIZZA.
JULIE I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM FIRST CHOICE YESTERDAY TO WARN ME OF BUILDING WORK, A BIT LATE AS WE GO ON SUNDAY. I E-MAILED THE HOTEL WHO ASSURE ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD NO COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE WORK THAT IS BEING CARRIED OUT.
julie when are you going ?we have also booked through first choice but not had a letter about building work, will let you know if & when we do. hope every thing is finished soon as we are going in 4 weeks
Julie, whilst we were there last year, the main structure of this new building was up. We have also had a letter from F Choice to inform us of the building situation, as we go on Sunday. The building is very close to one of the apartment blocks, and quite near the pool. If I get a chance, I will post a message on here when I am there to let you know of the situation.
Louise. We seem to go to a range of tavernas when we are there. The best ones we have found in Kalamaki are ; Mermaids for B'fast. Merlis, for good value. Taverna Paris for good food. We also recommend a night out in Zakynthos Town for a meal in the Square. There are a number of Resteraunts there. Hope this helps.
Iv just had a letter from First Choice, who we booked our holiday with and it says that there is a new hotel being built to the side of he Amaryliss and he work has fallen behind and should be completed by the end of May. The builders are apparently putting the finishing touches to the windows and doors, then the fixtures and fittings etc will have to be completed. Just wondered if anyone else had had anything about this. Hope it won't spoil the holiday.
gary, thanks for the info. seems our two boys will also enjoy the planes. where are the best places to get value for money when eating out with a 12 and 10 yr old in tow . (seems as you are the only one who replies) louise & mat
Louise. The runway is approx 1/4 mile away, if that. If the planes are landing over the bay, tough they fly in behind the hotel, close enough to hear and see them. We found that it added to our holiday, rather than detract anything. Our 2 yr old loved them.
we are going to amaryllis in june 04 can any body tell us just how close or if the airport runway makes a difference to your stay, and also any more problems with the pool as we have 2 children . be happy to here from any body else who will be there on the 8/6/04 onwards
Thanks Gary, Iv got more of an idea where we'll be now - see you in a couple of weeks.
Hi Julie. The Amaryllis is situated approx 10 mins walk from Mermaids. The Apartments are just off the main road, opposite the Pandanesa Resteraunt. We are going back on the 9th May. See you there.
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me as Im still not quite sure about the location of the Amaryliss. I stayed in Kalamaki last year at the Two Brothers. Could anyone tell me where in comparison to The Mermaid restuarant, for example, the Amaryliss is. Also when you are talking about the 'centre' is that the road where The Cave Bar etc is. Im going on 11th May and Im really looking forward to it. Hope the Amaryliss is as nice as it sounds.
Sapph. Can't help you re; booking direct. INFO WISE - The beach is a 10 minute walk, if that. Taxi into Laganas is a good idea, as its a couple of miles away. You can walk into the 'centre' of Kalamaki in about 15/20 mins. Hope this helps. Gary.
Hi,
I've read all the posts and just wondered if anyone had booked direct here ? I have been in email contact with the Amaryllis and have decided to book for Sept 2004, however I'm a little confused by the replies I've had with regard to paying the deposit, they have given me a Eurobank account number (very, very long one) and said to pay the deposit into that.............HOW ? They were not forthcoming with an explanation either a to how to go about this. I will call into my bank on Monday and ask them but I wondered if anyone else had booked direct before.
Be really grateful of any help.
Also in REAL terms how far tome wise will it take to get to the beach and the centre of Kalamaki from the Amaryllis ??? Someone on this forum mentions getting a taxi to the centre for 4 Euros.....Is that really neccesary there or indeed back at night ??
Thanks in advance of any help.
Sapph
Julia. You have 2 cooking rings, no microwave. Fridge is a decent size. Not much kitchen space though. There is a small 'essentials' shop on site, and the nearest other store is literally a one minute walk away, on the main Laganas/Kalamaki road. Hope u enjoy your hol.
Phillipa. The apartments are a good size. We stayed in a one bed apartment last year which was great. Having a balcony was like having an extra room.
Thank you Taym for the last answer about the insurance.
Can anyone tell me what facilities there are in the apartments for the Amaryllis? Is there a fridge and cooking ring etc?
How far is the local shop?
Can anyone tell me if the studios in the amaryllis aparthotel are as spacious as people say they are,we are going in six weeks and have been to kalamaki before and loved every minute, people are great, beach superb and very safe for children our daughter was 11 months old last time we went so it will be different for her now she is nearly four.Pippie
We have booked to go to the Amaryllis in May 04. We have booked our insurance with 1stoptravelinsurance.co.uk and was far cheaper than some of the other well known insurance companies.
I have just booked today for Amaryllis based on your very positive comments! Can anyone tell me where I can get reasonably priced insurance instead of the extortinate prices that the holiday companies want to charge?
Thanks Sue, that was everything we wanted to know! It sounds fantastic and we can't wait to experience it for ourselves in July.
Hi Sharon. We stayed at Amaryllis last year and loved every minute. Second time in Kalamaki and couldn't fault hotel. Rooms very spacious (unusual for Greece i think) and spotless. Pool great- family hotel - old grandmother speaks no english but keeps bringing sweets out of shop for the children. Sea great for small kids aswell as can walk miles out before it's even over our knees. Our boy is a bit older (9) but he wouldn't entertain going anywhere else but kalamaki - counting the days already!!! Staying at venus this year but only because we couldn't get booked in amaryllis - just down road though so may still pop in to use pool. One tip - put your towel on sunbed early!!! Quite a German thing to do but we needed to last year in August!!. Have a lovely time. Sue
We have booked to go to the Amaryllis at the end of June 2004. We will be travelling with a four year old and would be keen to hear about suitability for kids. Also any suggestions for eating out and places to visit. Thanks!
Michelle, I can guarantee that you will have a great time. We went last May, and are returning the same time this year. We have stayed in 3 different locations in Kalamaki over the years, and we rate this the best one. No problems with kids - we have a 2 yr old, pool is good, and a play park on site. If you want Any further info, just ask.
The hotel was absolutely spotless!! The staff were very friendly and we loved the time we spent there!! We definately want to stay there again!!
We are going to Kalamaki in July 2002 and will be staying at The Amaryllis Aparthotel. Can anyone tell me what it is REALLY like and if I need to take anything from home that I cant get out there as I have 2 young children.
Anyone else who is going around this time, get in touch
Apartments are basic but kept clean. The staff are friendly.
Planes didn't spoil the holiday.
Best beach found was St. Nicholas beach.
Boat trip to Smugglers Cove was excellent.
Our best restaurant was Hera, which is just along the road.
Watch out for the man at Paolo's restaurant who runs across the street and propositions your daughters!!
Spent most nights at the Amaryllis bar, didnt leave until 3am!!
Overall a fantastic family holiday.
PS. F1 Go Karts are great fun and fast!!
Two weeks at the Amaryllis in September an excellent idea. The apartments are clean and comfortable, except for the mosquitos - be prepared with repellant and an insect spray! Very good clean pool area.
Plenty of good restaurants in Kalamaki, our favourite was Tesoros, try their Kleftico - but don't have a starter beforehand if you want to finish it! Pandesia also very good, just a short walk away. The Cave Bar very good for a quite cocktail and to watch the sunset.
We took the overnight trip to Athens, a long coach ride but worth seeing Athens if you haven't been before. A tip - go for the 5 star trip at 99 euros it is worth the extra. You get to stay in the Royal Olympic Hotel in the centre of Athens, and don't take the Greek night outing. We did and were disappointed, so do your own thing, the shops are open till late and there is plenty of choice for eating.
Hired a jeep for three days, a good way of seeing the island, go to Gerakas beach, said to be the best on the island, we don't dispute that. Good place for lunch is Kampi, quite a view across the sea.
The best local beach for Kalamaki is Crystal Beach, about thirty minute walk from Amaryllis or 4 euros by taxi and there is always Zepos Restarant for refreshment or a meal when you get there.
If you take the turtle watching trip, don't expect to see turtles!
Ladies, if you are worried about your hair, you can arrange a visit to you apartment from Nicky Doxey, a qualified hairdresser. She is English and prices are reasonable - reception have her business card and phone number
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable two weeks and don't worry about the aircraft, they aren't really a problem.
Couldn't fault it. Lovely place, always spotlessly clean, and the staff always helpful & friendly.
Aircraft noise ain't that bad, and you don't notice it after the first couple of days anyway.
No trouble with the pool, although we only spent a day or two there anyway.
Restaurant is a corker. Only had a couple of meals there, but both were superb. The pool snack bar (same kitchen as the restaurant) was also good. The egg & bacon rolls were sublime.
They must have dropped the bar prices too. One large and one small beer came to 3 Euro's (the cheapest we found). The exact same drinks in Down Under for example, was 5.50 Euro's!!!!!!
We'd certainly go again.
Thanks Annette for letting me know about the towels. You were right, they were fine. Had the most brill time, lovely hotel/resort/people etc. Can't fault a thing, apart from the airport going home. Sure everyone who's been there will agree what a nightmare that is!! But will definately be going back.
We had a wonderful holiday, but my daughter was also struck down with an ear infection. We saw the First Choice doctor who was very nice but only tells you at the end "thats 100 euros please". We had to see her again the day before we were due to fly home to give us clearance to fly home - again another 100 euros but at least we were expecting it that time! We also discovered when collecting the prescription that you can buy the medication we had been prescribed over the counter so we could have saved ourselves 200 euros and saved the hassle of trying to claim it back off our insurance. Despite the ear problem though I can honestly say it was the best family holiday we have had and would definitely return to the Amaryllis.
The price of the draft beer at the Amaryllis is 3 euros for 0.4 of a litre the most expensive we found on the resort, the restaurant is good and very reasonable (last year they gave a 10% discount when you stayed - don't know if they still have this offer). There are plenty of restaurants on the Kalamaki/Laganas Road, one of our favourites is Paolos order a load of starters and all dig in mmmmmmmmm yummy, and it's one of the closest. Try wandering across the road to the Hotel Metaxa the pool area is quiet and the food and drinks are cheaper.
I have just returned from spending 2 weeks at the Amarylis ApartHotel in Kalamaki. The apartments, restaurant and most of the staff are very nice.....BUT please be aware of the swimming pool, it seems at first glance very clean, but it isn't, after the first week myself and my 5 year old daughter started with ear ache and was told by the doctor we had ear infections. We were told by the rep at the welcome meeting that if anyone started with earache then to inform her. There was a few other people with it as well. Like i said the place was nice, it is just the pool, but they should really do something about it.
Tracey, towels were absolutely adequate - not hard or hole-y. 3 x bath and 3 x hand towels for the 3 of us. Don't bother taking any extras.
Just returned from 2-week stay, 24th August.
Fabulous apartments - the best we've ever had the pleasure of staying in whilst holidaying on the Greek Islands.
Rooms were cleaned daily with linen changed every 2nd - 3rd day, beautifully-kept gardens and pool area (which the kids and adults all seemed to love!).
Mini-market used twice daily for replenishment of essential fluids - ie Calippos and Magnum ice creams!!
Airconditioning a must - as temperatures reached the high 30s. No mossie bites in the room, even though our balcony was next to lots of trees. Building pretty earthquake-sound too (as we experienced).
Met lots of nice friendly folks, specially Richard, Sue and Zoe from County Durham.
Absolutely first class. Perfect for families. We will return.
FANTASTIC! We have just returned from 2 wks at the Amaryllis and it was absolutely brilliant!! The complex was beautiful, clean and of the highest standard. The resort had plenty of restaurants, bars etc but we enjoyed sitting at the Amaryllis bar usually till 2ish!! 1 of the best holidays we've been on and we would all be glad to return. Only major problem was leaving after such a fantastic holiday i was distraught to leave. The company was fab as we were in a group of 10! Very friendly staff and the best rep ever: Alyson! AND ABSOLUTELY NO NEED TO TAKE YOUR OWN TOWELS! Hope to see everyone from the Amaryllis again soon! xxx
I am staying in the Amaryllis in September. I have been told by a friend who stayed in Kalamakki last year that the towels leave a lot to be desired and that I should take my own. Can anyone tell me who has stayed at Amaryllis if I need to do this, as would rather have room in suitcase to bring goodies back!!
Average came up on the location etc by mistake, what we saw of it was exellent
We didnt stay there but ate there 3 times, best pizzas we ever tasted, other food exellent too, great service ,very friendly, our grandaughter Emelia loved the play area.
Came back yesterday from two weeks at the Amaryllis. One of the best we have been to. Certainly one of the cleanest! Everyone helpful, pool lovely and warm, food excellent, minimarket very useful. About 5-10 minute walk to beach, and 5-10 mins other way to town. Wish we were still there!
Hi, My family are off to Kalamaki in october of this year. I was just wondering how far the Amaryllis aparthotel is from the restaurants and bars. also there is me, my boyfriend and two 4 year old boys, we are going for a week and i was just wondering what the prices of everything is like. thanx alot.
The Amaryllis Aparthotel is situated at about as near to the end of the "main strip" as you can go before the road to Laganas. We went early July 03 and found the cleanliness exceptional especially the bathroom. Air conditioning which we really needed was expensive at 6 euros per day. We didnt eat at the hotel restaurant as there are so may good ones in Kalamaki. We found the on site supermarklet expensive but there again convenient. All in all our stay at the Amaryllis was very good and I would certainly recommend it to friends and family. Please note. Our daughter stayed in Laganas and we had to get a doctor from our reception (excellent service)because she had been served " dangerous alchohol" in the guise of fruity cocktails
The Amarylis has a good playground for the children, and they also are one of the only tavernas who can cook a steak, medium-rare int he whole of the resort. They were fantastic with us and our two children and we had many a good evening there.
The phone number for this aparthotel is 00-0695026847 . We are returning again to Kalamki for the fourth year. It is our second at the Amaryllis. It is lovely.
Yes, I need the telephone number too. If anyone can find it, please email: kate_keetch@everestlimited.co.uk
Thanks!X
Has anyone got a telephone number for this hotel please?
Hello all, i've just returned from staying at the Amaryllis aparthotel, and had a good week. The staff especially the cleaners are very friendly, and the place very clean. The swimmimg pool is good. The planes do come in very close, but after the first day you tend not to notice them, unless you are by the pool. We had a studio at the back of the complex on the first floor and managed to get some nice photos of planes coming in very close! The weather was very hot with the exception on one day. We had a thunderstorm on the thursday evening, which was really nice to watch and the following day the temperature had dropped.
We've just spent a week in the Amaryllis and it was very good, it's shown up a bit by the fantastic hotel next door, but you get what you pay for. It's very clean and well cared for and they work hard to keep it that way. The only down side is the incredibly miserable guy who works on reception. On waiting for our coach to arrive a bunch of us were watching Tim Henman at Queens and he just changed the channel mid match - we couldn't believe it - I don't think he's quite mastered customer service yet!
You can get in touch with the Amarylis direct by Email. The address is sssh@otenet.gr.
Does anyone know the telephone number for the Amarylis Aparthotel or how I can book directly with them if I get a flight only
Answer to the Clare re; air conditioning. I think they charge 6 euros a day for a studio. We got quoted 10 euros a day for our one bed apartment. Bit expensive if u ask me
Just got back from Amaryllis after a 2 week stay. We've been to Kalamaki 3 times and this was the best hotel we have stayed in. Our room was very clean and spacious, having booked a one bed apartment we had a double balcony which was like having an extra room. Restaraunt on site a bit pricey. We found the receptionist extremely pleasant! Weard accent though.
Just got back from a week staying here - really enjoyed it. All facilities were excellent and the place was quiet and relaxing. Ignore the boot-faced receptionist on duty during the day though! All the other staff were great.
Just returned from a lovely week. Weather very hot. They have a web page WWW.zantetour.com/amaryllis and you can request details and book a room direct from there.
does anyone know how much the amaryllis charges per day for the air conditioning?
Can I rent an apartment direct from Amaryllis owners? If so, how much does a 2 bed apartment cost per week during May and June 2003? How do I book it? Thank you
Went in July of 02 and loved it, Hotel is very clean and great for kids.Going again this year and hope to meet up with Theo the Barman and family. Highly recommend this hotel.
And if your wanting a meal go to Paolo's across the road, he supports Panathanikos, likes to make his customers enjoy there time there and he will never me a millionaire if he keeps knocking off a couple of quid on the bill.
The amaryllis is situated near to the Kalamaki to Laganas road, not far from the end of the runway. Its about a 10 minute walk into the centre of Kalamaki
