just spent a week in this hotel all ten of us for mums 75th birthday. wot can I say gorgeous location right on the beach. tavern pool bar rooms and all the staff everywhere first class. rooms cleaned every day fresh towels and linen every other day. restaurants in kalamaki all good that we ate at . the olive tree excellent also paulos, both a little walk into the main bar and restaurant areas but so worth it. air con safe and fridge a little pricey we all thought air con 7 euros per room per day frige 4 euros per room per day and same 4 a safe. if u book direct with the hotel all these are included but not on a package deal holiday/. we went with Olympic holidays but a Thomson daytime flight. such a lovely island and the amazing weather of late 30 degrees every day was wonderful. hope to be back very soon.
Going to Kalamki Beach Hotel on Aug 25th not much up to date comments about this so if anyone has any please can you let us know also if there is any cooking or cutlery available in the apartment.
hi, we stayed there last year.
positives:Stayed here 17th to 31 May. Staff very helpful I unfortunatley had a fall on street recpection soon sorted me out cleaning and sealing wound. Breakfast adequate except for coffee machine staff soon understood no coffee. There is some noise from aircraft but we found scooters and quadbikes were more annoying. Would go back again. Good clean small hotel.
Stayed at this hotel in Oct 2006. It was lovely, could not complain about anything. it was clean, rooms were spacey, staff wonderful. the only reason i didnt give it a 10 is that the beach which is just 2minute walk from the hotel was full of wasps so although beach only little walk, we drove to other beach's (which we normally do anyway so wasn't a big problem.) we do hire a car and if you don't then it it a 10 or 15min walk for the main bars and shops at Kalamaki. the review from Louise i would not even slightly agree with. if you stay anywhere in Kalamaki you can clearly see and hear the planes taking off and landing but it is not a problem as they don't fly late at night or earlt morning.
I am going to this hotel in 2 weeks time with my husband and newly married son and his wife. Have read mixed reviews. Has anyone been this year to give any reports (good or bad)? I have heard they start shooting to clear birds from the runway at 4.00 am. Is this true? I am just hoping the good ones are more accurate than the bad ones (reviews that is).
Louise, sorry but i have stayed at both kalamaki and crystal beach, and kalamaki wins hands down everytime, there are closer hotels to the airport and being such a small island yur bound to hear the planes where ever you are in kalamaki but its not like they are running 24/7. Both hotels are a small walk from the "best restaurants" crystal is probably further away than kalamaki. Im sure if u stayed u wud ov found the hotel staff extremly friendly, the beach and pool are also gr8. shame yur experience at kalamaki cudnt have been nicer, they have really worked hard improving that hotel.
We booked to stay here but didn't!!! Nobody mentions anywhere that this hotel is situated at the end of the runway so aircraft noise is a horrendous problem. When we arrived, our room was not ready. Having waited well over an hour, we were repeatedly ignored by reception staff whilst they ushered Greek guests to their rooms (which miraculously were ready!!). Finally we had enough and moved off the the Crystal Beach where we were made to feel welcome, a room was ready right away and we didn't have to examine the undercarriages of jet aircraft on a regular basis. The hotel is also a good way from all the best restaurants and the road to and from it is unlit and dangerous at night. Our advice is to avoid the Kalamaki Beach at all costs!!
Returned from another excellent stay at this gorgeous family run hotel.
You were right girls the hotel looks fab this year, landed back yesterday had a great time with my partner and little girl. Needs more british there to liven the place up a little, alot more quiet than the last 2 years weve been, but still enjoyed ourselves. Look forward in returning next year.
Have to agree with Lyndsey, totaly dif from 2003. looks great! never stayed here this yr, but visited many times!
We were at the bar the night greece won the football. FANTASTIC!
Will definatly be back! See u all next yr. x
Didn't actually stay in this place but my ladyfriend and I stumbled across it during a late night stroll on the beach. Lost, the owner couldnt have been more friendly in making sure we got our wet, scruffy hides out of the place! Seriously though, we both agreed that the place looked the absolute dogs bollocks. the reception area was impeccable and the pool and the surrounding gardens were top-notch. Its also right on the beach. A beach that makes the one in Laganas cry out with envy. Anyone going here should be happy as hell.
Meant to say that everything was excellant, not average!!
Caroline, when we were there in May, the hotel wasn't sure about the operators that would use the hotel, but if you go to www.kalamakibeach.com you would be able to book direct with them & just arrange your flights over there. Hope this helps you and if you manage this you are guaranteed an excellant time, with a wonderful family, we are back out in October, can't wait.
can you please tell me which holiday company deals with kalamaki beach hotel, kalamaki. Used to be jmc but they dont seem to deal with them anymore.
Thankyou
What can I say, I for once am speechless. I have just returned from two wonderful weeks at Kalamaki Beach Hotel with my husband and two boy, and my sister. We were lucky enough last year to really get to know the family there,we had been four times previous to that.
When we arrived this year we could not believe how this hotel has been transformed. The rooms have been completely refurbished, and decorated. The lounge area is like what you would expect to find in a luxury hotel. It is stunning, the rooms are still basic, but as many of you know, many Greek properties are like this.
It is just a shame that at the moment there is no English company for any of you Brits to share the warmth and wonderful greek hospitality that awaits you here.
We have never had a bad stay here, and we wish Takis, Nikos, Dimitris and all the family and staff a prosperous season, we are sure it will pick up for you all, as you all deserve it, and we can't wait to see you all in October.
I went to the Kalamaki Beach Hotel last July. My first impressions of the hotel was that it was awful. I really hated it. It was just so basic and the walls are paper thin! Luckily for us we didn't have noisy neighbours. The pool, however, was fantastic. Probably one of the best in the resort, only problem with that though was that I think people from other hotels kept using it which mean it got very busy!
I really did hate the room, it wasn't what I expected at all, and the shower was awful, no shower curtain mean the water went everywhere and no bath either! After a while, the room kind of grew on me but it only then became bearable, I still didn't like it. But to be fair, you don't spend a lot of time in your room anyway. But I think the room is pretty standard for Greece, very basic, not even a TV in the room.
The beach was lovely though, and it was really close. I was glad I only stayed for a week because I certainly couldn't have handled 2, but then that's just me. When I went to Cyprus, I was expecting the same kind of hotel conditions but Cyprus was just fantastic. Loved the hotel and everythign about it (Hotel Silver Sands, Protaras).
Had a great time at the hotel. We go there every year. We have a laugh with all of the staff. ( Dimitris, Saiki and Nikos!!) its a great hotel and handy to get to the beach. great views and you can gain excellent mates. i did and they are ace!!!! all the best Dimitris x x
If you can handle basic accomodation....youll love it.Room was cold & smelled damp when we arrived at 6am,hotel staff were very good & offered us a room next day (but veiw of carpark wasnt what i want so we opted to let them freshen room up the first room more) Only 2 single creaky wood beds & a table.Standard toilet for Greece (yup no shower curtain so floor soaked all time & bucket for ur waste toilet paper- you get used to it)Lots of mosquitos around & wasps so be ready.Oh and the walls are paper thin..to all you lovers out there!
Hotel is clean but again very basic-no entertainment at hotel day/night. So Laganas is best option (5mins by taxi-price @6E)
We hired a car for 3 days which is good to go & find secluded beaches.Drove all round island & offroad too.The blue caves are nice as is the shipwreck veiw from cliffsides on west side.
Beaches at Kalamaki are nice & safe for kids but cig ends mess at road end (move up towards cliffs cleaner.) We wont be back to Zante but for a cheap break in the sun it was ok.We got 4 lovely days of hot sun.I think some people were bit shocked at low standards here, maybe they too used to Spain.I travel regular & have seen far worse & of course far better accomodation. The Sun Appolo (think it was called across road from this hotel was far better looking)
Most places closing for end season now.So bit of ghost town. The planes do fly overhead but you ignore them after a while
Stayed in Marelen but came here everyday for lunch (lovely pizzas) and to go in the pool and straight down to the beach. Has a peacful friendly atmosphere and Nikos, the barman, is a lovely chap. From Kalamaki Beach Regualars XxX
we have just got back, people as would we go back no ,the hotel is fine only went down to breakfast once, location brill.we got bite to death from mosquitosno on one told us that so be prepard. not much to do at nigth, nothing in the hotel in the day or nigth .we had a good time but would not go to greese .
lynne dixon ... please get in touch with me!!! on rideroftheyear@hotmail.com!!!! Lisa xx
we loved it n had a great holiday n would definately go back. the breakfast was fine, it was open from 8 til half 9 and you helped yourself so you could go back 4 more and get as much as ya want, there was bread, butter, jam, cheese, ham, peaches, greek yoghurt, honey, melba toast, cereal n hard boiled eggs. the pool was good apart from sometimes there was far too much chlorine in it. the pool bar has a good range of snacks but it was really expensive so just buy your stuff from the supermarket. everything has went up in price since the euro was introduced. the greek night was excellent - great fun!!!! dont go on the trips with the rep you can get them for less than half the price down the high street n they r just as good! beach was lovely but you cant go on it between 7pm til 7am coz of the turtles.mermaids was definately the best restaurant and wasnt too expensive 'hera' was little but also 1 of the best. donot go to zakanoh it looks really posh but we ordered chicken & it was 100% rabbit - eurgh!!! it was really expensive 2! we also went to laganas one night which cost about 8 euros, we didnt enjoy it as it was a bit loud 4 us but go if you like the bars do not go to the ionian sea though it was terrible and we waited about 45 minutes just 2 get our drinks, when the bill came he just told us what it was & waited next 2 us while we sorted the money 7 was waiting 4 his tip!!! the receptionists were lovely, definately get the air conditioning, it is so hot, it costs 8 euros per night but it is well worth it! zante airport is a nightmare, there is no seats hardly and even no room to stand!! its tiny. overall wre had a great time but do not go to paolas it had nice food but the waiters r ttl p**verts, one kept givin my daughter his number and following her, he came to the pool often and looked 4 her while she was sunbathin, that put us off goin there again! have a great time if u go - you'll definately enjoy it!
