Accommodation in Kalamaki

Had a brilliant time staying here! Apts were cleaned nearly every day and during our 1 week there our towels were changed twice which was pretty good. We stayed on the top floor which is newer than the bottom 2 floors and they were very clean but basic. We hired a fan for 1 week which was quite cheap, 12 euros (£8) and I advise hiring one because it gets so stuffy at night! Say hi to Athina and Michael who look after the apts, they're lovely even if they can't speak much English! The pool at the Two Brothers is very small but we found a really nice pool nearby called 'John & Joys'.

Stayed here from 11th-25th september 2001 Bit of a walk to the main part of Kalamaki, but that helps to sober you up a bit. Across the road is the 2 brothers hotel. Friendly staff most of the time, the pools a bit small though, I reccomend going down to sofias or antonia's pool bars instead. We had an earthquake while we were there there which needless to say scared the crap out of us but the building didn't have any problems with it. Cleanliness was a bit varied, one week room got cleaned twice and the other week three times so its o.k. Quietness apart from the dogs, chickens and the priest singing for 3hours in the earley hours of the morning once a week was O.k too.

Hi Dean! I went to the whitehouse apartments on the 7th - 14thAugust. We had a brilliant time. The weather was over 100c everyday! The apartments themselves are very basic. The rooms are very small and we struggled getting dressed in them as we had 3 people in the room, and obviously 3 beds. Two people in a room is fine. A couple of nights we were kept awake by the dog next door barking (a big alsation). If you do intend to cook in the room there is very little in the way of pots, etc. A big pan and a very little pan, so it is handy to take some plastic cups and things if you think you will need them but don't forget a bottle opener for your beer & maybe a corkscrew. There is a fridge, we used to freeze bottled water in the freezer, the two brothers sell water for 650 Dr for 6 big bottles, but you can buy 12 for 800 at the supermarket if your prepared to carry it. There is a wardrobe in the room, very small, and a dressing table. The kitchen area consists of a sink and 2 rings. Rooms get cleaned every two days. The bathroom has a shower with no shower curtain so becareful not to flood the room like i did everynight. The flush on the toilet is a bit dodgy it leaks when you flush it. It gets very hot in the night in the room so we hired a fan. We hired it from the hotel across the road it is called 'the two brothers' we also hired a safety deposit box from there. The white house has no swimming pool but every hotel welcomes visitors to use theirs. We used the Vanessa's! when you come out of the apartments go past the two brothers and continue down the road until you see a sign that says to the main road. cut through there, this is the Vanessa hotel Demetri is the bar man in the evenings and he's really nice we based ourselves there most days. We ate out everynight in different restaurants, i would recomend Mermaids for eating, big meals, not expensive and very friendly staff. At night time go to the 'down under bar' which is on the main road as you come out of the Vanessa, turn left to Mermaids, keep going and you'll find the down under on the right. Its is brilliant in down under. The bar staff are brilliant. If you sit at the bar they give you free shots all night, if your nice to them. We sat at the bar and got free cocktails. The cocktails are cheap and very nice! Rusty nails are lethal!!! The beach is about 20 minutes away but the walk is nice. Continue up the road from down under at the top of the road turn right and follow the road down until you come to the beach. The supermarkets are good on the main road, turn right out of vanessa and walk a short way down we used the one across the road, there beer is cheapest. 280 Drakmar for a beer its 800 at Vanessa, the Greek beer Mythos is good I'm told. We hired a jeep which is a brilliant way of getting round and exploring the island, we went to all the different beaches. My friend hired a moped which is also good but quite dangerous as the roads are very stoney and bumpy and you are not insured on a moped. We went on the island cruise! It was brilliant it was the best thing we did all holiday! We had heard alot of bad stories about the cruises so we changed our minds about going but then we thought we should just try it and it was brilliant! Dont book any trips from the reps, buy them on the main road there are lots of good deals. We booked ours on the main road down to the beach. If you do go on the cruise go on the Matalana boat as it is the best boat. On the trip there are 3 swimming stops for about 1 - 11/2 hours each. you go to see the ship wreck, there is a diving board on the boat and on the swimming stops we swam out to the caves which are beautiful. you visit the blue caves and go all the way around the island from 9am until about 7pm approx. Take a mosquito plug for the room, and some spray for when you get bit. They wern't too bad for us but people we met one girl was bit 36 times in one night! The area Kalamaki is very friendly and beautiful, and is only 5 minutes away from Laganas (the party town of Zante) if you are interested. About £4 in a taxi. Remember that 500drk = £1.00. We had a brilliant holiday, i hope you do too! The appartments arn't brilliant but if you use them as a base and somewhere to rest your head they're fine, we watched a beautiful sunset every night from the balcony. Absolutly brilliant holiday, would definately go again! The apartments are a brilliant base in an excellent location. Perfect for a fabulous holiday on this beautiful island! If you want to know anything more or have any other questions dont hesitate to ask! Manda

The Whitehouse Appts were a great base and had all you needed for a great holiday. The rooms are basic, we had a large wardrobe on the 1st floor, but people on the ground floor had tiny wardrobes! No shower curtain but we were provided with towels so just used them to mop up the water, not really suitable to use as they would rip your skin off!!! No pool but we went to Hotel Vanessa to use their pool which was amazing. Hotel Two Brothers was just across the road but sunbeds were too cramped and people put their towels on them really early to reserve them. Long way to the beach but worth it when you get there. Water is amazing, really shallow and really warm. Overall a great holiday and we would return there.

Got back from Zakynthos this week - stayed in the White House for 2 weeks. Apartments were basic but clean, excellent location - beach 10 min walk, main resort 2 mins away. Perfect for a fabulous holiday on this beautiful island! Can use all the amenitites at the 2 Brothers aptmt opposite - nice friendly staff and cheap food.

Scott S  (24 July 2001)

Me and my girlfriend got back from the Whitehouse studios today. It is okay, the room was very small with a tiny wardrobe not big enough for two people really. The showers have no curtain rail, there was not enough cutlery and the maids came at 9 or 10 every morning, which is ridiculous cos we were still recovering from the night before, so we hardly ever had our room cleaned! There is no reception whatsoever, so go over to the place opposite for anything you need. Only the son speaks English, so trying talking to the Mum or Dad and they just say "The boy Kostas" and point to him. You can get a safe from here for 6000 drakmars (£1 = 500 drakmars). Also, rent a fan from there, or we hired ours from a supermarket called "Limnos" on the main road. The appartments are very basic but they were pleasant and although it backs onto a greek house, don't be put off, but if you are unlucky the dog might start barking all night like he did last night and I couldn't sleep. Also, myself and the guy next door had our shorts nicked from the balcony one night (bottom floor), so don't leave anything out to dry just in case. A tip for turtle spotting - go to Laganas beach and hire a pedalo and get a mask and snorkel. We swam with one and held onto its back - there were loads there and you know where they are because the glass bottom boats hover around them. Don't bother hiring a pedalo from Kalamaki - we did twice and saw nothing. Any more info you need email me: scott.saunders@cwcom.net

Dear all, I'm planning to join lastminute.com and the trip they do includes staying at the Whitehouse, can someone tell me if lastminute.com arrange good rooms for late deals customers?

Alison B  (10 May 2001)

We stayed here in 1998, with Olympic. You could use the pool opposite at the Mavros, except Mavros closed it for our second week (but that was 16 September week). Close to the countryside, so quiet except for the bells ringing on Saturdays for the church next door! We watched a lovely wedding there one evening from our balcony. Very close to some VERY greek houses, we enjoyed watching them go about their daily business, and their dogs came to visit us sometimes for biscuits over the balcony! One of the furthest back places from the main part of the resort, but a pleasant and safe walk. There is a small shop very close by. Nearest taverna very good (2 mins from Dias). We had no complaints about these studios and would stay there again. Hope you have a great holiday!
