Well, hello again, Grant,
We, too, had trouble with locating Kalidonio with Golden Sun, so, rather than not go to Zante we booked at the Hotel Sirocco. We returned on Oct.2nd having had a lovely holiday, once again. While we were there we had a couple of lunches at the Kalidonio and chatted to Fortini (I'm sure that's not how to spell it!) She didn't open until June "due to lack of bookings" so Golden Sun told her. Surprise, surprise if no one could locate the place!! They closed a few days after we left, having had the "last minute" bookings from Direct Holidays. The people we spoke to, while we were eating lunch, were there on a £99 a week deal!! We were told Kalidonio is definately with Direct Holidays for '04 and '05. I e-mailed for the brochure yesterday, but now you say it's still not there. . . oh no, not again!
"Ionian Blue" next door is still not up and running but has progressed somewhat and should be open next season but no decision has been taken on the company taking it yet. Cheers.
Hello All,
Not been watching the site for a while. Seems pretty quiet. Didn't go to Zante this year due to the lack of info from golden sun. Is anybody planning to go to Kalidonio before the end of the season?
They are not in the first edition of Directs 2004 brochure.
Any info would be appreciated. Regards, Grant Somerville.
does anyone have a telephone number or e mail address for the kalidonio? we visited in july, loved it and want to go back, possibly september.
Hi everyone we have just returned from Kalamaki(1st June) and I have spoken to Maria at the Kaladonio Apartments they are due to open on the 8th June 2003 and they are back with Direct Holidays. There has been some sort of a mix up with Golden Sun, Maria was insistent that they are back with Direct for this year and next at least, we also heard that Fotini, baby and Mama are there as well.
Thank you for the information Sue.
I wonder, however, if Goldensun will do well out of Kalidonio in 2003.
Not much revenue so far from what we could see.
We are going back to Kalamaki at the end of May so it will be interesting to see how things are going
To everyone who has been looking for The Kalidonio Apartments I HAVE a 2004 brochure from Golden Sun and YES!!! it is in at last.
Footnote to my last message :
The Goldensun website indicates that they have accomodation in "lovely" Laganas and Tsilivy but nothing in Kalamaki.
Does anybody know what is going on at Kalidonio?
Have just returned from 2 weeks in Kalamaki.
Kaledonia appartments looked deserted. Pool empty.
Very little activity at new hotel next door so it is difficult to decide what is going on. There was no sign of Fotini whenever we went past.
Had a lovely holiday August 2002. Have been trying to book for this year but so far had no luck. Golden Sun have told me that they have never heard of the Kalidonio Studios. Can anyone out there help?
SO KALEDONIO IS WITH GOLDEN SUN NEXT YEAR ! IN FAIRNESS TO DIRECT HOLIDAYS WE GOT A FULL REFUND OF THE COST OF THE WHOLE HOLIDAY FOR 2003 WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM. WE HOPE THAT MY TRAVEL AND DIRECT HOLIDAYS WILL SURVIVE , BUT WE FEAR THE WORST. AS FOR GOLDEN SUN - WELL THE JURY IS STILL OUT ON THAT ONE. I HOPE FOTINI AND YANNIS HAVE GOT THEIR MONEY UP FRONT. THEY SHOULD BE OK FOR 2003. AFTER THAT ???
We have just been told by Direct Holidays that the Kalidonio is no longer available for a holiday we booked with them for June 2003 - this despite checking with them that the Kalidonio was still a Direct Holidays location just before paying the second deposit a few weeks ago. We did this after reading the comments on this site. They offered alternative accommodation which we turned down and have been promised a refund. Now we are faced with starting all over again to try to get to Zante from Scotland. Needless to say we are less than impressed with the way that Direct Holidays have misled us - and by the looks of it many other people.
I have again phoned Direct Holidays who now confirm that they have been dropped by the Kalidonio next year so apparently there is a long list of poeple who they are trying to contact to inform them if they would like a full refund or an alternative accommodation but as my holiday is not until later in the year (September)I will have to wait. What angered me the most was that they aplogised for the way I found out about this but didn't bother to appologise that they advertised these Studios in their brochure and took bookings before a contract had even been signed. I also have to thank you Grant fo letting us be aware of this.
At last, Grant, we have something positive to report!! First, we had an excellent holiday. In all our years of going to Kalamaki, usually at this time we have never seen so many wild flowers and butterflies. It certainly seems to have been a wet season as all the locals say. Of course you are right, Grant. The Kalidonio is going to Golden Sun. We have finally received a cheque refunding ALL our money. I think, Danielle you might have to "jump up and down" a bit to get the same. We were offered alternative accommodation but, for us, there is no alternative in Kalamaki. Reading the write-ups for Golden Sun on this web site, though, I hope the Kalidonio (and their customers) are going to be happy with the arrangements!! Are you and your family returning, Grant, in 2003? May be we shall meet? We must thank you for alerting us to the situation. But for you, we would still be in blissful ignorance about our next year's holiday arrangements.
I am also booked to go September 2003 with Direct Holidays so I have just phoned them and they say that the contract between themselves and the Kalidonio has now been signed for next year.
Hello again, Grant. Here's a bit of an update so far! Over a couple of weeks ago we wrote, stating the facts to D.H, and asked (in the circumstances) for the return of our money. Yesterday we received a reply, giving us a complaint number to quote in future correspondence. Their letter stated that they had noted our comments and are investigating the points raised!! A full reply will be sent to us within 28 days, by which time we shall be at the Kalidonio. A local travel agent phoned Golden Sun, who confirmed that they have the Kalidonio for 2003. Although it does not yet appear in the G.S. brochure for next year it will, apparently, be in the next edition which comes out in Oct/Nov. Will keep you posted!! In the meantime we'll give your regards to all at the Kalidonio. Beryl and Peter.
Hi Beryl and Peter, Further to your comments, I can tell you that Direct went ahead and put Kalidonio into the 2003 brochure without Fotini and Yannis's approval. I also know of people that have booked for 2003 via Direct, but as yet Direct aren't saying anything. Fotini has signed with Golden Sun for definite. The increase in money she gets was substantial. I expect that Dennis and Maris's Ocean Blue will go with Golden Sun next year too. Make sure you keep us updated after you return next month. Kind Regards, Grant.
Grant, We are puzzled by your remarks about Direct Holidays and the Kalidonio for 2003. It certainly does appear in their brochure and we have already re~booked for September 2003 so I do hope they are going there!! It really suits us fine in every way. We are going next month, too and looking forward to eating out at Dias and Mikalo.
Arrived back home on the 28th July. The apartments remain the same as previous years. Still using the fans when the weather is really hot(38-43 degrees). The girls are looking at air-con for next year but the costs may be prohibitive. The big block being built next door by Maria's husband to be, will have 50 rooms for 2 to 4 people. They are called Ocean Blue and they hope to have 25 ready for next season. The Kalidonio, as usual, remains the same as does the nature of mum and the girls...FABULOUS. If you want to book for next year then you'll have to go to Golden Sun as they are not dealing with Direct Holidays for 2003. Thanks for another great time. Grant, Maria & the children.
Just returned from visit July 2002. The apartments are clean and of a good size although the cooking facilities and utensils are very basic. There is still building work going on at the hotel being completed next door but nothing too noisy. Very relaxed and quiet location within easy reach of beach and resort centre. Only negative point was that the mother and daughter trio who own and run the apartments were neither friendly or helpful.
Can anyone please tell us how they are progressing with the building of the new hotel next door?
The location for Kalidonio Studios is very good it is only a short walkto the centre whichever way you turn left or right. and it is only a 10 min. stroll to the beach which is beautiful.
can anyone tell me the location of the above studios within kalamaki
Clean basic apartments. We had a room at the back which was much cooler than a poolside room. The pool area and bar were delightful, especially on the two days we had the area completely to ourselves. Its a shame there is building next door, at the moment the apartments are lovely - being surrounded by fields and just a short walk down a track to the sea. Pool bar food is great for a lunchtime snack.
Stayed end Sept/ start Oct 2001. Location is just about perfect - easy walk up to main street/ down to beach. Great for relaxing by the pool, even with some building going on next door (the only reason that I've not put "Excellent"; however it looks like this work will be finished by the end of the 2001 season). Self-catering facilities are basic, but then with the cost of eating out so low not many people go anywhere in Greece to cook for themselves. Little that I can add to all the other comments about friendliness and cleanliness. I'd go back. In answer to Rod Stockford's question the apartments are exclusive to Direct Holidays (same arrangement appears to be in place for Summer 2002).
We visited the apartments in August 2001 and really enjoyed it! the owners are lovely and make you feel so welcomed! the location is just nice, not too crowded but not in the middle of no where. Good omletes too!
Have stayed here before, but would like to know which tour companies now use it
About to go on our 3rd visit. Highly recommended. This family run complex is clean, friendly and the bar food is worth trying.
Stayed there June 2000 and June 2001. Friendly atmosphere from this family run apartments has brought us back and will for many years to come. Kaz, John and Kirsty
We stayed at the Kalidonio in June. Yes the rooms are basic Greek style, but very clean (the cleaner came every day). The pool was exellent and the food from the pool bar was very good, and so was the iced coffee (frappe). Had a really good weeks holiday. We would recomened here.
I visited the kaledonio in june, the rooms are very typical greece, very basic but they are kept clean. The area is very quite, apart from when the planes are landing but that noise doesnt bother you at all.I would recommend the kaledonio to anyone i thouroughly enjoyed it. while in kalamaki you must go to mermaids restaurant excellent.
I am going to stay here on 17 june and would like to know what the apartments are like. Are they tiny? Are they clean? do they have a reasonable balcony? is it noisy? is they pool heaving?
