Hi

Best exchange rate on Kalamaki was in Sophia's supermarket. Average rate was 1.24 euros to the pound although it did go up to 1.25 while we were there, but then went back down to 1.245. Lovely staff there too, very friendly.

just come back from kalamaki and the best rates were in the gold centre and sofias food shop. the highest rate we got was 1-24 to the £. still had a great holiday though

 Hi

all we are going to kalamaki in july  (AGAIN) and just wondered if any one could tell me what

EURO rate is please, The rate in kalamaki is usualy prity good but you never know, just waiting

now to  eat at my favorite resturant  DIAS, and to see all our friends, especialy LABROS and

his family ,hello to howard, linzy, calum and blake. see you all soon.

Louise W

We found Sophia's Supermarket to have the best exchange rate - we were getting 1.467 euros to the pound rather than 1.41 from the Post Office back home.  Makes a difference over a fortnight!!  You do need to shop around though as some places were offering exchange rates as low as 1.40.  Sophias was great - hassle free!

Best exchange rate in Kalamaki is Caretta port Number 2... Was the best at 1.4650 at one stage it also reached 1.47... Merlis however neva changed from 1.43...would highly recomment here for exchanging £

From what I noticed, there was 1 cash point in Kalamaki on the main road, but wasnt really looking for them.

For anyone taking Euro Travellers Cheques, I found the best place to exchange these was the supermarket along the main Kalamaki road, just before the taxi rank (on the same side).  He has a notice in the window stating 'no commission on Euro Travellers Cheques'.

This was the only supermarket I could find in Kalamaki that didnt charge on these.  All the others charge around 2% to exchange.

I'm going to Kalamaki on 24/8/06. Are there ATM cash points available?

Dave T

WE USED  CARETA PORT 2 SUPERMARKET JUST 50 YARDS UP THE LAGANAS ROAD ON THE LEFT AFTER THE TAXI RANK, MOST PLACES WERE OFFERING 1.40 EURO TO THE POUND THIS PLACE WAS 1.43 EURO TO THE POUND DOES NOT SOUND ALOT BUT ON £1000 IT IS A EXTRA 30 EURO, WE FOUND IT BETTER TO EXCHANGE IN ZANTE BECAUSE AT HOME THE POST OFFICE WERE OFFERING 1.39 AND THOMAS COOK 1.38.

Hi Gill!!

You`ll find the prices on meals for a quality meal, that is, to be about 30-40% cheaper than the UK. There are places offering 3 courses for 7 euros, but I wouldn`t personally go for that, I wouldn`t in England either!!!

Drinks are pretty cheap at the moment, as trade is a little quiet this year you`ll pay from 1.50 euros in some happy hours for an amstel say, cocktails average 3 euros. for one person travelling for 2 weeks with meals out every night, lunches out, a couple of tours and going out every night you`d need at most £600 and probably spend far less. If you need any advice come over the to Kalamaki message board off the main justzante site screen!

Hi everyone, just wondering what the prices are for food, drink etc in Kalamaki, I can't seem to find any decent info on this. My holiday brochure guides are a bit varied. Thanks.

Kirstie F

how much do you need for two weeks in kalamaki per person thanx

Steve M

Best place we found was just along the main Kalamaki - Laganas road (50 m past taxi junction) - Careta port 2 supermarket - As of the 19th June they were giving 1.47 Euro to the pound with no Commission

Patricia S

take pounds use deposit box and go to Sophies best rate on the island. we have just come back and been all round and you will not beet her.

Claire S

we go out on 23/06/05 for 2 weeks , can you tell me if all placesaccept stirling traverlers cheques or are the places few and far between in kalamaki

Siobhan P

Just came back from Kalamaki and we both took £50 worth of Euros in change, and used the cash point there after that. No danager of loosing your money and if you use Nationwide you dont get charged!

Ken W

I know all the reasons why you shouldn't, but I usually take Sterling cash, keep it in a safety deposit box at the hotel and change it at Sophia's Supermarket. It seems that they always give the best rate for cash.

Keef & Jan

Take about 50 euros and the rest in Stirling travellers cheques. The exchange rate is usually slighty higher in Kalamaki and the supeer markets don't charge any commission. Have a great time.

Siobhan P

So would the general advice be then to take stirling traveller cheques, or cash and stay clear of euro travveler cheques. Do you loose out a lot by using the cash machines there? Going in 3 weeks you see for the first time and starting to get stressed over the money situation!

Matt B

Whatever you do dont take euro cheques as you lose quite a lot of money everytime you exchange.

Chris C

sorry should have said highter than UK for cash exchange, I normally take all cash as you can save quite a bit of money

Chris C

ATM outside Limnos Supermarket near mermaids Restuarant mate. Exchange rate normally 0.06 euros-ish higher than UK!

Dave M

is there an atm in kalamaki,or a bank---regards
