Porto Iliessa Hotel

Accommodation in Argassi

Looking at this website on this hotel and having just got back from staying here I think some people are getting mixed up a bit.
Porto Iliessa is the 5 star apartments the sister hotel called Hotel Iliessa is run by the same guy. This is a hotel and not as luxurious as the Porto Iliessa.

The apartments are fantastic, we had one on the ground floor adjacent to the little pool which was perfect for our needs. The hotel is very nice and clean whilst the staff are very attentive. However, I think that the owner needs to think about some things in the hotel. When the weather is bad, there is absolutley nothing for you to do - no games room etc. (only one pack of cards). Even the upstairs bar does not open and you have a limited selection on the TV in the pool side bar (only one english sport channel controlled from the locked roof top bar).

We had an awkward return flight time and had to leave the apartment at 12:00, and recieved a nice reminder telephone call asking if we wanted to keep the room for €70. To which we declined the offer. It would make more sense to request a more reasonable charge for 1/2 a days room hire which would probably encourage more people to keep it on. Even if you do not keep the room on, there are courtesy showers available - but only until 20:00 and when we tred to use them we were informaed that we had to hire towels to get dry on!

The perfect week was marred by the last day where it seemed that they had your money and then wanted nothing else to do with you but to try and get that little bit more money from you!!

On a good note! As for george in the roof bar, he loves kids certainly kept mine entertained with his card tricks and "magic pennies" as my son called them for the pool table.

Also beware of his cocktail shooters, they can be lethal!

Dear Penny, First of all you can book the Porto Iliessa Apartments with JMC for 2004. We have just returned from a fabulous 2 weeks there. Superb apartment overlooking the pool and the sea, it was huge with plenty of space for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Sophia at the pool bar is very friendly and works very hard.

Which english holiday companies can I book The Porto Iliessa Apartments through? We stayed there in 1997, and booked through Thomson's.
Can I book Direct? If so How?

just returned 7.8.03, excellent place, why is it only 8/10 is should be 10. Clean, big apartments, staff great, we bookd with thomas cook, paid £1700 to go to Commodore but stayed half hour, commodore was so disgusting,so had to find ourselves a room for 2 weeks within 30 mins of landing as T.Cook said couldn't do anything, so went here, could find no faults, its right on beach as well and also it does not have blaring music at the pool all day like most places, also got a kids club. Excellent holiday and have booked independently with hotal manager on day we left for next July (04). My Motto now is "never book with Thomas Cook", - see my comments on Commodore. This hol cost extra £1100 as had to find our own room but god it was worth it.

Great place, maid service was good, the quiality of the pool bar and the pool it's self was amazing. You need to go and see George in the roof top bar, he's a great guy.

Addition to yesterdays entry, if you're a beach bum, you may be disappointed with the beach outside the apartments but invest in a pair of strap on sandals(7 euros)to get you across the band of shingle and you come to a lovely sandbank about 50m out which is still only waist deep...so the water is warm! Otherwise, walk towards Argassi Beach Hotel(500m)to find a sandy stretch or a bus to St.Nicks beach for the real mcCoy! (see photos)
Or just stay in the pool...it's great!

By Greek standards, this complex is definitely 5 star! We asked for a pool view but luckily got an upper floor apartment facing the sea!.. (Rooms 201>204/301>304/214>217/314>317) It was difficult forcing ourselves off the balcony each day but we did and the pool area was brilliant offering a breeze off the sea. Rooftop bar was a great place to finish off the evenings and thanks to George the barman for his entertainment! Island is beautiful so get a jeep and don't miss the sunsets at Kampi...Breath taking!
Our favourite restaurant was Venetsiana, up past the Red Lion, but there are lots to choose from including a typical greek restaurant opposite Argassi Beach Hotel(owner is a scream!)
Wonderful holiday...we'll be back!

Just got back from Porto Iliessa on Monday 26th May. Had two
fantastically, scorching weeks! The place was fantastic, we had
a big bedroom, a lounge, a kitchen with table and a bathroom
with shower and a BATH!! Having been to Greece three times
before, we usually just had a tiny shower with no shower curtain!
And a kitchenette in the bedroom! So for those of you who are
used to basic Greece - these apartments are a luxury! We were
supposed to stay at Krinas, but Thomas Cook said they'd
overbooked at the last minute! We were well pleased with the
Porto Illiessa - miles better then Krinas! And you get a cracking
barman too - George is fantastic, we spent many a night
sampling the cocktails and beating him at pool! George is a
brilliant laugh, he works in the roof top cocktail bar - it's fab for
happy hour cocktails from 7-9pm only 2.5euro, ideal before you
head out for food. All the apartments have sea or pool views, and
HUGE balconies! It's in the perfect location, right on the main
street, with the beach on your doorstep! I would definetly
recommend these apartments, and for anyone who is off to
Porto Iliessa - I'm so jealous, cos I want to go again!

I've just returned home from the Porto Iliessa in Agrassi on Sunday 25th May. I have had an amazing time and cannot believe that the rating for these apartments on JustZante.com is only 8/10 as I would give it 10/10. I went on holiday with my boyfriend, son and Nan and the apartment was great for all of us. The location was great, right on the beach front and right in the middle of the main road in Argassi. The apartment was very large and very clean. We had a shower, bath and shower curtain!(which we considered a luxury for Greece). The staff were very friendly and helpful and we felt that they could not do enough for us. There is a roof top bar giving amazing views and George runs the bar in there. Early evening there would be quite alot of families and children in there and we found George to be really nice to all the kids. He was very friendly and funny and and I have developed a addiction for Blue Lagoon Cocktails thanks to him! Sophie works in the pool side bar / snack bar and she was just lovely to. Last year we stayed in the Krinas which we throught was fine, but after staying here we would without a doubt come back again and again.

THE APARTMENTS WERE LOVLEY, VERY CLEAN STAFF WERE GREAT, IF U GOT CHILDREN NOT GOOD PLACE NOTHING FOR THEM TO DO BUT IF U GO TO LAGANAS U WILL FIND MUCH MORE TO DO LIKE THERE IS A MC DONALDS AND MUCH MORE
I WOULD GIVE IT 10/10 FOR THE APARTMENTS BUT WERE THEY ARE 2/10 IF U R SCOTTISH GO TO THE RED LION THE BEST BAR THERE AND NEIL THE DJ ID FROM GLASGOW AND A GREAT LAUGH P.S IN THE BAR WORKS GEORGE OH OH FOR CHILDREN DOSE NOT LIKE THEM BUT LIKE TO PLAY WITH THE BIG GIRLS SO JUST BE AWEAR

Andy M

The apartments were okay. The floor was slippery just after the maids came in but you have to expect that if you want the cleanliness. At least it is clean most of the time. The barman Odi at poolside was very helpful although the food was a bit iffy. The omelette was the thinnest i`d ever had.George in the rooftop bar however, was one top bloke. He had a wonderful sense of humour and he was very efficient.Whenever he saw you outside of the bar he stopped for a chin wag. The night receptionist was like Hitler though. When we arrived he said what you could and couldn`t do as though he was Adolf. Not the friendliest greeting you could wish for.The day receptionist was a nice lady.Very polite and helpful.

Lorna S

the apartments were very clean but basic, the whole building was very lovely though, all marble flooring (be careful when it has been raining though - VERY slippery) and we were very pleased with the whole package. only thing not so good was JMCs services. as some people have not yet written, do not go on the day trips with them, they are WAY over priced compared to what you can get from the people on the streets offering, probably better, trips.

Andrea & Joe

Lovely apartments, very clean. JMC leave alot to be desired, we were pre warned about day trips so avoided them, others were't so lucky so lots of complaints. Arranged own Greek night which was fab book through reception (Target bar in the hills)taxi collects & drops off when ready.Hotel manager requires daily happy pills. Beach filthy but others can be found.Roads extremly dangerous to walk along in evening.Airport complete disaster, 1hr to collect luggage & had to sit on floor on outbound.1st impressions & last impressions were airport so never again.

Message for Odi, We had an e-mail today from someone who has just come back from Argassi, I am glad they have found you, Gordon and myself are coming to Argassi on September the 11th, and we hope to come and find you. I tried to find out from the Contessa Hotel where you were, but they would not tell me anything, only that all the staff had left. See you soon Eileen and Gordon Rugby England

Just returned today after spending two weeks at the Porto Illiesa from 21/7 to 4/8. The apartments are very good, although little bits are showing their age and use. The pool is a great size and their was always sunbeds available even up to 10.30 of a morning. The pool bar is a welcome oasis (Odi is the Olypiakos barman), and the roof top bar is looked after by George (the Panathinaikos fan). All Sky channels can be viewed here. The only bad point was the earthquake on the 28/7, which felt like a juggernaut going past !. If you've booked here you'll have a great time, myself, wife and two children ( 9 & 6, the Kids club was great for them) did !

Neil C

The apartments are good, the pool is free form, and the beach, which offers a variety of watersports, is about ten metres away! Everything is clean, apartments are good, but the TV is below par. The only english channel is EuroNews, which seems to repeat everything. VERY GOOD IN MY OPINION.

How many apartments are there?

Karen M

These apartments are really really supurb, excellent location, and the maids work really hard to keep them clean, the whole complex is spotless. Our daughter really enjoyed the kids club, which kept her out of the sun at the most important times. The pool is great, its round and it's good to see how many times you can swim round it! I'm not saying how many I managed.

Steve W

Booked again for July 2002 (5th Time!) - the best apartments on the island.

Kath C

Just back from Argassi loved it, greeks so friendly we will definitely go back. Porto Iliessa Apts were first class, spotless, spacious and right on the beach. Well worth their four star rating. The best accomodation in Argassi. By the way such a beautiful island too!

((If Timos sees this : Hiya! It's Jacqui & Alan's daughter!!)) We have been here 3 times, and this is the lap of luxury.. you don't get better than this. The pool is excellent, it's situated right outside the beach and opposite the main string of Argassi shops. The rooms are large, clean and have good facilities like : TV, Radio, 4 beds, Fridge and a cooker.. most rooms have a BATH, which is considered BIG TIME lurxury in Zante!!!! The staff are really friendly and the playground is excellent.. once you've stayed here, the Diana Palace and Admiral seem like PANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve W
