Matina's is a fantastic restaurant, I would just like to say a Massive thank you to Sakis and Emma, and all the staff for their excellent service and care and friendliness that we received from them all at our wedding in September. They bent over backwards to accommodate our large wedding party. Not only was the food excellent, prices fab, service excellent, it was the best meal we had while on the island, everyone at Matinas made our wedding night one to remember, especially the drinking session afterwards at FEVER. Well done see you all next year. Big kiss for Tas. xx

i can't believe the rating this restaurant got! my food was disgusting - the fish was off, it smelt and i was ill afterwards. and it was more expensive than most too.

In reply to the comment made that the staff at Matinas were not friendly, we frequented it 6 times in the course of our holiday and were always met with a warm and accomodating welcome. Lovely place just off the beaten track on the way to old alikanas. Traditional and simply cooked meal that always gets the taste buds going. a definate must for your holiday.

Found this by accident on the first night. Went back three times. On the main road through to old Alikanas that also loops round to the beach. Food was always really nice, enjoy it with the house wine. Great stuff, followed by a walk down to the beach for cocktails at Neraida.

This was good. The kids menu was worth a miss, chicken nuggets and chips etc. The food was good otherwise, the kids shared lamb chops, the service very attentative, the wine reasonable. Quiet, friendly, English service. Really worth the walk from the other end of the village.

This was the closest taverna to our studio (Andonis) and we walked past it quite a few times before we tried it. It is indeed a traditional taverna. The food is simply and beautifully cooked and presented, and the house wine is cheap but very drinkable. I think our favourite dish was the kokinisto, but my husband tried a dish that translates as "little shoes" and really enjoyed that too. If you are looking for a taverna in a quiet location where you don't get chips piled on at every opportunity you will really enjoy eating here. The service was good; both ladies were English and always ready to explain a dish. We also enjoyed the little glass of ouzo on arrival. Once we discovered Matina's we didn't go elsewhere!

the food was excellent but its a shame about the service the english women who worked there was very stuck up and didnt pay any attention when ordering your meal. we didnt like hear one bit but the place where it wos situated made up for that.

we were there from 1st to 15th july matinas was open but iguana wasnt did it shut after we left when was you there.

Kathy H  (21 July 2004)

I don't think you will be seeing Sakis in September as the restaurant has shut down and the Iguana Bar had been forced to shut due to some problem with his license. Hope it's sorted by next year as our holiday wasn't the same not being able to go to the Iguana Bar!!

Always a great meal, set away from the centre of the villiage in a quiet peaceful spot. Very friendly staff and great value as the standard of food is excellent. A lovely traditional Greek restaurant, a must for all to try.

Vinny &  (15 October 2003)

A good traditional Greek meal was had ! We tried a traditional Zakynthion lamb dish cooked with pasta and this was superb ! Excellent service in a lovely setting just off the main road on the way to Old Alykanas.

Don   (19 July 2003)

A little bit further away from the usual tavernas but the food is great and extremely reasonably priced.

Claire G  (23 September 2002)

Lovely food. Beware the Saganaki cheese - it's so filling you might not have room for anything else!

Bev   (20 September 2002)

Superb place! Lovely authentic taverna, well worth a visit!

M&j W  (18 September 2002)

WE visited this twice in our two week stay. Very friendly staff, allowed you to go at your own pace. Very quiet surroundings, as out of the village centre. The meals were very good, and the house wine cheap but very drinkable. The walnut cake sweet was excellent.

Julie M  (04 September 2002)

We loved this Taverna. The food was as authentic as you'll ever get in a Brits abroad resort (i.e there were no English dishes on it at all), very good value and very tasty. The staff made it for us though, really chatty and friendly, but not overbearingly so. Matina's doesn't have one of those tacky giant plastic signs outside with pictures of moussaka on, always a good sign in my opinion. On our first visit it was absolutely hammering it down, so the place was almost deserted and we enjoyed the peace of the place. The second time, I'd injured my ankle and they couldn't do enough for us. If you're looking for well cooked, tasty and exellent value, off the beaten track (i.e. away from the hoardes) then this is the place.

Ian A  (16 August 2002)

Of the six meals ordered for our party, two were served cold. Reluctently the food was returned to the kitchen, reheated and then served piping hot. In summary, the food was no better than average however the rudeness of the manager which included no apology for cold food or the opportunity to order from the sweet menu is the reason we would never return. This level of service was the opposite of traditional Greek hospitality.

Elaine H  (24 July 2002)

We really enjoyed this taverna. It was off the beaten track and very relaxing and authentic. Ate here three times and saved it for our last night. Traditional Greek as far as we were concerned, good food, very friendly staff.

New restaurant owned by Sakis, (Iguana Bar). Very good quality food and quick service. Well worth a visit. Just past Kali Pigi and Jesters.
