Hi Shauna
Hi i have been reading through the comments and find some of them slightly off putting. I am going to Amaryllis hotel for the first time this year in October and was wondering what the weather was like and if there is much for the children to do, as i have never been to Greece before this will be a great help.
Just spoke with a friend who was at the Amaryllis for part of the said date and he said there were no groups of lads. He did say a few teenagers with their parents got a bit drunk and loud but it didn't ruin anyones holiday and didn't really last long.
We were at the Amaryllis from the 20th July to 3 aug and never saw any of these problems whatsoever, also we never really heard any noise.
Thanks for you comments Vivien, really appreciate you replying. I am going to look forward to my holiday and like you said its unlikely this (if it was happening there) will be happening in September. Once again thank you and hope you all have a great holiday.
for the attention of elizabeth jackson.
Unlesss this hotel changed overnight on the day we left I am truly amazed at the comments made regarding not going here with children. We stayed at the Amaryllis from 17th July to 24th July 2009, and did not have any trouble whatsoever. We thought the resort was extremely quiet for the time of year as we have been and stayed at these apartments before. We felt the hotel was very suitable for families and the only group we saw were approx 6 very decent girls who left the day before us I think. Unless it drastically changed on the day we left again I am very surprised at this comment. My son has been in touch with a family who only arrived back on Monday 3rd August and am sure they have not commented on the goings on. If it is the case and the tour operators are putting groups here I very much doubt that they will be doing so in September, so I would not worry. We are thinking of going back again Sept/Oct to take my 85 year old mother as we know she would love it like we do.
oh dear that terrible I was recommended Amaryllis because it was ideal for families and couples so I have booked to go in September for two weeks. I have been looking forward
to this holiday so much but now I really am unsure if I even want to go. If anyone else goes over the next couple of weeks can you please let me know if this is still going on. I would rather lose the money thanbooked for next year in August and really looking forward to it. Kalamaki is such a relaxing place. are all the 2 bedroom apartments in block D? can anyone recommend a good room that is maybe away from bistro grand as I have read it can be abit tedious
Hi Phil, we went to Kalimaki for the first time this year, like you we had concerns
Hi there, have read through about 2 years reviews and the hotel sounds fantastic. My wife and I stayed at the Exotica about 10 years ago and I have vague memories of how busy the airport was, I now have two children aged 6 and 8 and am thinking of booking 2 weeks next summer, my only "concern" is that of aircraft noise, particularly as my two are light sleepers and early risers !! Also, would I be better with a 1 or 2 bed Apt ?
Any advice would be great thanks.nice spacious apartments,we had a 1 bed with 2 teenagers and it didnt feel cramped, nice balconies, we were in block B and most had a pool view, some noise was heard from the Laganas crowd arriving back at stupid o'clock but we slept with the windows open because didn't want to pay the price of the air con, pool bar good, open from 8.00 till 6.00 plays music all day. pool nice, 10min walk from the beach and probably the same to the main part of the strip where all the bars and restaurants are, we were there 6th July till 20th and had a pleasant stay.
Got a studio apartment booked at the amaryllis - anyone any idea whether they are ground floor, first floor ......? thanks. Also are the apartments equipped with an iron? Is there a launderette nearby.
Plenty of sunbeds at the Amaryllis, though if there is a few of you you might want to get there early to get some together.
All the 2 bedroom apartments are on the ground floor. We had one the first time we were there and it was lovely, no stairs to climb!!! We didn't feel overlooked or less private even sitting out on the balcony at all time of day or night.
Its a wonderful place and we are booked in again for next August.
I am looking to book for next year to Amaryllis but just wondered what the pool was like and if there are enough sunbeds during the day, not a huge issue as love the beach!! also are all the 2 bedroom apartments on the ground floor as prefer to be higher. have a 17 and 15 year old so need plenty of room. been to kalamaki before and loved it, stayed at Carreta beach but got cancelled 5 days before departure last year!!!!
They don't allow fans in the room either so be careful if you use a fan to hide it.
Cheers Mitch, what a rip off, will try and do without it I think or maybe take a small fan with us. They should do it on a coin metre so you pay for what you use, would be so much better
Hi there, air con is expensive at the Amaryllis, I think it's around 60 Euro per week. We go in May so it's not needed.
HI GUYS, going to stay at Amaryllis in August for the first time can anyone tell me how much they charge for air conditioning please.
Thanks for your help, Mitch, glad you had a nice time. We are looking forward to our holiday.
Just got back from another Lovely holiday with you. Many Thanks for the warm welcome and great service from all at the Amaryllis.Hopefully we will return again next year for a longer stay.
We had an excellent holiday here at the Amaryllis hotel due to the fantastic quality of the apartments. They were clean, spacious and well equipped for our needs. The staff offered an exceptional level of customer service at all times. No task was too small - in particular Stratos who we had many dealings with. We found the apartments were situated in an ideal location. Close to all local restaurants, beach which was a short 10 minute walk and shops. We are definitely staying here again next year.
Just returned from another great year at the Amaryllis. Our kids needed more entertaining this year so we will consider next years holiday and may go to a complex with kids clubs etc... Our poor son was a bit bored as the weather wasn't great so the pools were cold and the park area wasn't for his age group.
Visiting Zante later this year, can anyone give me a rough guide to the prices of things i.e. beer, meals out and car hire.
Much appreciated.
Just got back from one of the best hols, everyone at the amaryllis exeptional!! warm and friendly nothing to much trouble, room cleaned everyday!! kids loved every minuite, definatly be back next year!!!
Thankyou Mitch, I might take a cheap one myself for the midnight nibbles!
Hi Julie, no, you can't hire toasters at these appartments unfortunately but what people have started doing is taking cheap toasters and leaving them there, so you may get one handed over.
Great news about Lola. Congratulations.
Along the main road towards Laganas, with Kalamaki behind you, If you find Paolos, down the slope on the road opposite, Amaryllis is next door to Bitzaro Grande. A nice stroll to town at night, and beach in day!! Great place, been 5 times!!
Can anyone help please?
Hi Karen,
Glad you enjoyed it. It seems the weather is changing a bit though. Not so nice and forecast for this weekend is rain. I really hope the weather does not get too bad as I really want some sun and heat after the miserable weather here this summer. Not many sunny hot days in Scotland this year.
We stayed at the Amaryllis for two weeks this moth and found the place amazing really enjoy our stay!!! the staff was very helpful and nothing was to much trouble.
Thanks for that info Mitch. Guess I better pack a hair dryer then. Only think I hate about the showers abroad is that there is no shower basin and the whole bathroom floor gets soaked.
I did email the hotel to ask but they have not replied and that was over a week ago.
Is it worth mailing again and asking for apartment B12. Was it a one bedroomed one? I do like a room with a view to enjoy a drink.
Hi Karen,
Hi folks
Thanks for previous info. For those that have been to the Amaryllis do you know if the apartments have a bath or is it just a shower? Also do they have hairdryers? I have read reports that you cannot really cook a meal in the apartments but we do like the occasional chance to cook. Is it possible?
I am really looking forward to going. Can't wait for 28th Sept to come. 2 weeks of sunshine I hope.
I tries emailing the hotel to ask these questions but got no reply. We have booked a 1 bed apartment. Does anyone know of a particular one to ask for? I would try and email the hotel again if anyone has any preferences. Is there a better email address to mail as to the one linked to this site.
thank you.
Hi Lynne,
First Choice do these apartments
Could anyone tell me if any U.K tour ops. have package deals to these apartments? Many thanks.
BACK FROM ANOTHER GREAT TIME. THANKS PANOS FOR THE GREAT COCKTAILS. GOOD LUCK LOLA WITH THE BABY. ROLL ON NEXT YEAR
Hi Karen, the Euro against the pound and it's return is the problem and people link this to costs in Zante and other holiday destinations. Whilst costs in Zante rise each year, it's not really noticeable. I managed to get my Euros at 1.24 to the pound, compared to last years 1.44. We spent £1300 for a famly of four of us, and we didn't scrimp and scrape, altough we never had three course meals either. Many familes with older children were spending around £1500-£1600 but were having three courses every evening.
Hi folks. I am going to these apartments on 28 September for 2 weeks. The reviews seem great about them and I amlooking forward to it. I booked it so long ago but I think I booked a 1 bed apartment. Must check with travel agent. I did read all reports before booking and the reviews were so good that I just had to book it.
Can any one that has just been tell me what effect the euro has had on things like eating out and meals?
I normally go to Turkey and this is the first time I have been to Zante and I am hearing all sort of horror stories of costs due to the euro and I don't want it to spoil my first trip here.
Any info would be appreciated so I can budget how much we need to take with us.
Also has anyone been in October and what kind of weather can we expect?
the photos of the rooms with the beds in are the studios, they are quite roomy, our friends stayed in one quite comfortably with a teenager and two adults. great place, we'll soon be there
HELLO EVERYONE SOUNDS LIKE EVERYONE HAS HAD A FAB TIME DURING THERE STAY HERE.WE HAVE BOOKED A STUDIO APARTMENT ONLY THE PICTURES DIFFER IN OUR BROCHURE .ON THE HOTEL WEBSITE IT SHOWS TO DIFFERENT TYPES OF ROOM PHOTO WISE CAN SOME ONE FILL ME IN TO WHICH IS WHICH???? YOU WILL FIND THE PHOTO ON THE FLASHING IMAGES ON THE GUEST ROOM PAGE TO THE LEFT OF THE TEXT. THANKYOU
We have just returned from a fortnights holiday in the Amaryllis Apartments. The place is extremely clean, and the staff are more than helpful. We found the on site mini market to be cheaper than some of the other shops in close proximity, and the pool bar food to be great value for money. There was entertainment in the bar a couple of times a week - which was always good fun! The pool was lovely, and my Son enjoyed the kids pool and play area. This is the first time we have stayed in these apartments - but we are already trying to book our return for next year - couldn't fault a thing.....Thanks to all!
Yes, there is definately a kettle in the apartments. Sadly no toaster though.
the one bed apartments are a good size and your son should be comfy in the living room, my two children have a sofa each in there. the washing/drying is handed in at reception and usually back the same day. can't remember the price but not too much I'm sure. you'll have a great time there, i can't wait till we go for our fourth time in august!!
great!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have been to Zante several times and have stayed in different accommodation each time. I can say with all honesty that the Amaryllis was the best accommodation by far. To have your sheets changed at least three times a week, was a joy. Usually you will get a change of bedding every seven days, and to have clean towels every two days exceeded our expectations. The rooms were clean and spacious and the cleaners managed to manouver around our daughters clothes etc.
Just come back from a week at Amaryllis. This is my 4th visit to Amaryllis as it is just sooo relaxing!
Just got back stayed here from 10-24 June inclusive and had a BRILLIANT holiday. The apartments (we had a 1 bed apartment) were huge. We were on the ground floor in the corner so we actually had a double balcony. The maids came in every day and cleaned and made beds. Clean towels every other day. Absolutely no faults with this hotel. All the staff were very helpful and Panos in the bar was extremely friendly, and extremely hardworking. This was our 2nd year to Kalamaki and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Zante. Its ideally situated, 10 mins walk to beach and same to the restaurants and shops. The mini market was good value although could have stayed open a little later (closed at 6pm) although it did stay open later on arrivals day. The whole hotel is First Choice and the pools were great. The children's pool was surrounded by sunbeds so you were never more than a few metres away from your littl'un whilst they were busy splashing. The pool was actually quite warm. The weather was fantastic (over 35 deg for most of the 2 weeks). We recommend 'Hera' restaurant - we ate here about 6 times and the food and service is fabulous!
Just arrived home after staying at the Amaryllis for a week (June 12th -19th).Had a brilliant time. The hotel is beautiful set amongst lovely gardens and everyting is kept in tip top condition. Beds and towels changed every other day and even though we made the beds they were re made to perfection! Pool is beautiful and so warm. Plenty of sun beds around the pool also and a good kids pool too.Nothing is too much trouble for anyone here. You can hire a hairdryer for 10 e deposit, safe deposit boxes in reception, also games and a tv with comfy seating area, mini market on site which is cheaper than some of the others and a good bar with Panos working full speed. Showed us pics of his family...lovely man.
Stayed at the Amaryllis 22 May to 5 June 2007. This complex is excellent for families, couples and singles if you wish. Didn't hear one bad report whilst we were there from other guests except it would do better to have a toaster in the room. But I see that as if you want toast, get it from the on site cafe.
Just got back from a weeks stay at the amaryllis and it was our second visit ,
The staff as always are helpful and friendly Panous and Stratos are very funnyHi
We are just back from 2 excellent weeks at the Amaryllis and i couldn't find fault. The staff are extreamly friendly and our rep - Gemma was helpful and friendly . A great place for young children ( we had our 2 year old son with us) the park in the complex is great for little ones and the children's pool was the perfect depth for him. Rooms were clean and spacious. hotel was only a short walk from lots of restaurants, shops and a bus stop.
We would reccomend here to everyone.
Hi Nikki,
Hi Nicki,
Mary, I can guarantee that you will all have a great time staying at the amaryllis. The weather should be ok in October, maybe the odd shower, but thats it. The Hotel is set in a great location, away from 'busy' area of Kalamaki, but near enough to be able to get to all the resteraunts and bars without any problem. The area is very flat, with the only incline just outside the hotel leading to the main road.
Just booked for 2 weeks in October 2007. Can anyone out there tell me what the weather should be like then? Also, do you think it will suit 3 early 50 year olds? We don't like it too quiet, but on the other hand we don't want to be stuck in the middle of a disco!! Also, one of us has a slight walking problem. It's not too hilly is it? (I can't believe I sound an old fuddy-duddy. I'm not. Honestly) Thanks
The only down side to the apartments is the lack of a bath! With 2 young kids, its a bit of a struggle with only having a shower, but we manage.
We have just returned from Kalamaki & had an enjoyable time at the Amaryllis (8th Oct to the 13th) Room C11. We found the hotel staff more than helpfull & the apartment was spotless. The change of all bed linen & towels every 2 days was great.
I could not agree more with the last review The Amaryllis is excellant. We never had a problem with any noise from next door but we were in block D and paid for the air con so our door was closed most of the time.
Have just spent 2 weeks at the Amaryllis and found it to be excellent. We had a two bed apartment due to the kids needing their own room, but also saw a one bed apartment which was also spacious. Air conditioning was needed with the temperatures reaching 43C in the shade (64C in the sun) one day. This was €10 per day or €115 for the full 14 days. Might seem expensive but made for a very comfortable holiday.
This was our second time at the Amaryllis and it was just as nice as the last time when we were there! Everything about the place just puts you in relax mode (including the cocktails from Panios in the bar!!) We went at the same time of year as last year and it was surprising to see familiar faces from the year before. Obviously they enjoyed it the same as us!! Would recommend this place to anyone!! Very child friendly as well, you can relax knowing they are safe. Planes are no problem after a couple of days!
We liked it soooo much last lear, we are coming back again for the third year running, cant wait to go, only 5 days remaining. YIPPEE
Have visited Kalamaki 5 times now, three times have been at Amaryllis. It lovely and clean, Staff are friendly and helpful, air con brilliant, when green shutters closed at night leaves room nice and dark for the morning, so no bright daylight waking you up too early! Close to restaurants and beach, brilliant location! Always had a brilliant stay at Kalamaki, if you get chance, Stani's, Michaeos, and Zepo's are great restaurants, best avoid mermaids unless you like a long wait for a small meal!
James, there are no beach watersports at all in Kalamaki due to the
restrictions because of the turtle nesting. Suggest you
look at Argassi Watersports on the message board.
the amaryliss is by far the best palce i have been in greece. Just returned from a brilliant two weeks there. it was perfect for my two children age 4 and 10 months. alll the staff are really friendly. Lots of space for the kids to run around and have their freedom. great cocktails in the bar at night. The beach is not that far but its not the best i have ever seen but its ok. Some lovely restaurants two of the best were the olive tree and don amici, both a must on your visit to zante.
kim you will have a good holiday here. just 15 minutes from the aiport and just on the edge of kalamaki with its long sandy beach just round the corner and some of the best restraunts on zante 10 minutes walk away in the resort centre. the apartments are in 4 blocks each 3 stories high and a good snack bar and shop on site. nightlife suites everyone with a wide variety of bars and restraunts where you can just chillout or join in the fun if you wish. most of the bars have the uptodate film releases on veiw for the family and even your weekly soaps or big brother etc. you can also keep intouch with all the sports and news if you wish..the hotel itself has a good sized pool and splash pool for the kids as well as a seperate play area. inside they have a bigscreen tv and internet access but not sure if you have to pay for that.only thing to watch for is there is a little aircraft noise during the day but you dont even notice it after a couple of days. none at night as the airport is closed from about 10-30pm till about 6am.
went to amaryllis last year going back on 9th july, going back cause we loved it so much. kitchen area is your dinning area, come living room , not much room really to dish up or cook thou, not that i cooked much last year. kettle there but is small, no toaster, no grill , hugh stewing pot thou, no jug, com colender 2 rings to cook which is electric, applicanties limited, but if you do need anything ask the english lady on reception with blonde hair she will get if for you, even ant spray. do leave any food out side or crumbs on the floor cause the ants will take over. as for the area for all ages go for it, there is a short walk before you hit the main road, with a slight hill, and there or a set of 15 steps also. main town keep to the right, if you turn right there is hardly anything there, it will take you to the beach. youny boy will had you card to a resturant by the step each night for a resturant to the left, no too sure what is was like thou as hardly went that way.
Sorry forgot to say, never seen 18-30 in Kalamaki they're usually in Laganas!!!
