Alkionis

We have been to Alkyonis Tavern about six times while we were on holiday in may, the food is excellent, service was outstanding, Kevin and Maria were very g   ood hosts, made you feel welcome and nothing was to much trouble for them. We went there last year and because we enjoyed it so much we went back again to see them this year, they remembered us from last year. If you are not a big eater like myself they will give you a small portion.There lamb with mint just melted in your mouth  also there meatballs were very nice. I have put a photo up of Kevin and Maria so if you ever go to alykanas please go and see them they will welcome you with open arms. We will go back and see them again.Pauline & Jamie

Very pleasantly surprised..not been before this year as the reputation wasn't great but apparently it was restaffed for this year and the result is excellent. Best stuffed tomato and pepper on the island!!! Everything was good.

We have just returned from a week Alykanas. The first night we ate at the Dionysos and the food was apalling. So next night we went into the Alkyonis and what a difference - the food and service were excellent, so we ate there every night for the rest of our week. Kevin & Maria couldn't do enough for us. On my husbands 60th birthday and our wedding anniversary (the day of the earth quake), they had laid a table especially for us with flowers on, it was a really nice touch.
My favourite food - one of the starters - the potato skins - also the minted lamb for the main course was wonderful. We tried the home made beef & vegetable soup on the last night and that was beautiful. If I had a flask I would have taken some home.
Kevin & Maria I hope you read this, I really would like to say thank you for making our stay so pleasant. Hope there aren't too many more tremors and that the last few days of opening went well.

Visited the resturnat on 5 occasions during my stay and can say the food, service and staff were second to none.  Looking forward to go back and will definelty being eating there again

 alkyonis is very nice! been coming to alykanas for 7 years (been 14 times) and always eat here! only this time when we eat here for the second time on our holiday the rice was under cooked but apart from that excellent! staff are really friendly,and service is quick!! see you all soon love from Jess,Anita,Sam and Sandra!! xxxx

Brilliant restaurant with lovely food and even better staff.

Maria & Kevin are the English couple who have taken over Managing this establishment.  Their hospitality is second to none.  As you enter, Smoking Dining area is to the left, Non-Smoking to the right.  On the left to the rear is a Family Dining area with a play area beyond.  This is a WHEELCHAIR FRIENDLY Restaurant.  We used this place on two separate occasions having eaten Roast Beef in a garlic gravy, Beef Stifado & Chicken, Bacon & Mushroom in Filo Pastry, ALL dishes were presented excellently.  For Dessert we had the 5 different Ice Cream with Squirty Cream on top & Chocolate Sauce, also there is the Greek Yoghurt with Fruit Salad(7 or 8 different fruits) & Honey, a sweet to die for.  Fancy a cocktail?  How about the ORGASM(Vodka, Baileys & Kahlua) !!  Even if you only visit Maria & Kevin once during your Holiday, you will be pleased you did.  Wishing Alkyonis Tavern every success for this Summer, may you have many bums on seats.  Greetings come to you from Peterborough, look forward to repeating the experience in the future.

Just returned from Alikanas (our 5th visit). We were so disappointed to find the restaurant was closed, and missed eating there very much! Nothing compares to this restaurant, sorry to see Dennis and Dimitris gone! Fond memories of times gone by.

Just got back on Jul 29 and can only say that the food was as good as ever, as usual the staff remembered us (Zahki, Donni and Tina)lost count of how many free bottles of Retsina we had! Prices have gone up a little I notice (this is everywhere tho) so the Euro won't affect prices??? That said we had an excellent lobster meal for Karen's birthday (28 Jul) and the whole meal only came to 53 Euros. Missing the good food already!

Iv been 2 zanty ever year since i was 7, the food at alkyonis has allways been ecellent and so is the service, they r very lovly people. I cant wait 2 go bk next year.

We can't wait to eat here again, we arrive July 15 and are really looking forward to some great food, as always!

The portions were so big its the only place the kids could not finish there meals teh only bad thing is if its busy you have to wait for your food but its well worth the wait.

We really enjoyed our meals here - excellent choice of Greek music; only gripe - the portions were so large I couldn't manage a sweet unless I skipped the main course.

I quite agree with Paul. The loss of The 2 Giorgio's and Siobhan has hit them badly.

This used to be one of the best, we have eaten at Alkyonis many many times. However, this seems no longer to be the case - I love Stifado but on the last couple of visits my meal has not been up to standard and my wife feels much the same. Try it by all means & make up your own mind but i think its gone downhill somewhat.

Best resturant in the village. My auntie got married 2 years ago on the island and then we had the reception here, all the staff were rushed off their feet serving 80 of us and the rest of the resturant but they managed it and the food was excellant. If you go to the village try this place.

Food was excellent. Best Moussaka going. Only downside, could do with a couple of more waiters.

Just as good as in 2001, tho Davina has gone!! Many of the waiters from before, and they remembered us, loads of free drinks and excellent food, once again the best lobster we have ever tasted. Don't know why some people seemed to have problems, everyone I have talked to who has eaten there has nothing but good to say about it, visit and see, trust me u wont be dissapointed.

We did have a long wait for our food and they did give us free drinks but it the food was not worth the wait. Disappointed after reading previous reviews

Can't comment on the food because after waiting for 90 minutes we walked out. We were told 3 times that it would not be long. It WAS very busy but this was a joke. So disappointing after reading good reviews on this site. Don't go there

This reataurant is one of the best in Alykanas, we have had three holidays here, and have tried most restaurants, and this one takes some beating! We were given a free bottle of wine most nights (not house wine), and free childrens bottles of drink. The owners,two brothers, go out of their way to ensure you have a good meal. Had a brilliant party for my daughters birthday here. Little Aris the young 12 year old waiter is the best, my daughter fell in love with him, anyone going say hello to him. Eat earlier or later because you can wait a while for your food if you arrive when it is busy. We will return!

excellent Greek and Tuna salads........

ate here 4 times.nothing special but reliable and staff great.take the horse and trap from alykanas village complex.

Mixed souvlaki, vegetarian spaghetti and chicken shish kebabs brilliant. Ate there several times and were not disappointed once. Friendly staff.

The food here is great especially anything with the alkyonis sauce!

STILL OUR FAVOURITE RESTAURANT AFTER 6 VISITS! ATE THERE 3 TIMES THIS YEAR AND NO COMPLAINTS. THE KIDS MEALS ARE EXCELLENT VALUE TOO!! ANYONE VISITING SAY HI TO SIOBHAN!!

Celebrated my 40th here,great night,probably the best restaurant in Alykanas & that takes some doing!

Just got back 17 Aug and this is the best place to eat!! And look for Davina McCall, not her really but the spitting amage. She's a brit who has lived there for there for the last 11 years and is really nice and friendly, as are all the waiters etc. Try the lobster, you won't be dissapointed, you need to order the day before, it's huge!!! Say hello to 'Davina' from Mick and Karen and thank her for our many orgasms!! (It's a drink, try it too)

Alkyonis is superb. The menu is expansive, the prices good, the food excellent. Can't go wrong. Recommend anything from the grill, and the Special Alkyonis oven baked pasta dish. The Aubergines a la chef is a great starter. I always eat at least three times here when I go, and it has stood the test of time. Thanks to everyone at the Alkyonis for putting up with me over the years!

Have been coming to this taverna for the past 8 years. Excellent service, brilliant food, value for money. Big thank you to George, Denis, Dimitri, Oresti, Chrsitina, Sakis, Katrina and Siobhan for organising my daughters surprise 16th birthday dinner with cake and champagne. Will be back in October. Recommend the Spag Boul and Cop Salad!!!!!!!! Also thanks to the other customers who sang Happy Birthday to Stacy and embrassed her!!!!!

we tried most of the restaurants reviewed in Alykanas and decided this was the best by far, the staff were very diligent and the food fantastic........we will return!
