Can't actually speak for the apartments as never stayed there but beware The Supermarket if buying cigarettes on a credit card. I went there and asked if i could pay by VISA and she replied "yes of course" and pointed to the swipe machine, i then placed the goods on the counter whilst quickly adding up in my head what i would owe. I got a figure of 294 Euros in my head which was exactly the same as the till said when she rang in the purchase. Not another word was said by the assistant as she took my card and swiped it, then presented me with a receipt to sign for 318 Euros!!. Suddenly my transaction was 24 Euros more than i (and the till) thought. When i questioned this all she could say (in suspiciously bad English)was "8% bank, 8% bank". I said to her it was 2% everywhere else but all i got was a shrug of the shoulders and "too late, you must pay". I wrote "cancelled" on the line where i should have signed but she refused to cancel the swipe machine or do a refund even though no goods were removed by me nor did i sign anything. I asked for both copies of the card receipt as i saw no reason whatsoever to leave my card details as no purchase was made, she again refused. When i took both copies, she ran round the counter and snatched it back off me and placed it in the till and shut the drawer. I made it very clear that i would not be leaving the shop without the VISA details so she rang her son who could speak better English and we went through the whole story again. In the end she threatened to call the police, which was ok by me and i was happy to wait for their arrival ( she didn't). Incredibly, she insisted on BURNING both copies of the receipt which she did in front of me, why she had to burn mine i'm not sure. So, even though nobody will tell you that you will be charged an extra 8% and no signs are up warning of this, let me tell you it is 8% at Danny's and 2-3% everywhere else. Ironically enough i ended up paying 0% in another supermarket simply because i was a regular shopper there and they were happy to take my hundreds of Euros.
not the same now it's moved, not the same at all.
one of the blokes definitely goes to Australia for the other 6 months.
been to Alikanas 9 times and never eaten there til this year because of no child menu. Can now recommend it
Mike..... what on earth did the five of you eat to run up a bill of that much? We have 1 less child and our bill was about 27 Euros.
spot on here. nice setting and a bit cheaper than elsewhere
the best
lost interest when i was charged 2 Euros for an Amstell that was actually the 250ml size with the label removed in the hope i would not notice... WRONG.
the best
only went here once this year, usually 2-3 times, but more choice now than prev years for restaurants. I find the service charge of 1 Euro per person a bit annoying, especially as last year there was no service charge at all. Even an 8 and 4 year old get charged 1 Euro where most places only charge for adults and only 60-75 cents. As for the meals, well my Stifado was ok but my wife's was a bit fatty. Never seen a rat there though!!!!!
excellent Greek and Tuna salads........
so, Manos reps still lying. We had a similar liar in 1999 so have not touched Manos since.
further to comment below, my card statement has arrived today with the transaction still on it. i have had to cancel the direct debit and pay the bill for the other GENUINE transactions. i rang the card company to tell them the story and they will contact Mrs Danny. Watch this space.........
no, the Heaven Bar is next door
further to my story below, my credit card company have written to me explaining that she cannot supply any proof of the purchase (surprise surprise) and therfore i win.
most bars have SKY sports and will show all the big matches.
money change places are all walking distance, after all Alikanas is not that big. Loads of restaurants have kids meals and high chairs etc now so you will be ok.
we have been every June since 1998 (and this year) and weather always fantastic..
yes mate you will be ok for nappies and all the other baby stuff
Go to the Kosmar site for a picture of outside of bungalows. Restaurant prices are very reasonable so nothing to worry about there.
best places to eat are
DIONISIS
ALKIONIS
APOLLO
PARADOSIAKO
MANTELENA
OLYMPIC (ALIKES)
PSARAPOULA
MEDUSA
and many more...
there is at least 1 ATM in Alikanas and 2 in Alikes
loads of money changing places all over. The rate is 2% i think..
well it was ok whilst it was open!!!!!!!!! It shut down on 16th June with a sign on the door saying "Open again soon". We spoke to Sakis and he said he "needed a signature".
We have been going to Alykanas since 1997 and love it. It is only about a 15 minute walk from Alykes. The trip from the airport is only about 25 minutes by taxi.
We have never stayed there but I had a good look around last June just before it opened. It looks fantastic!!
We stay here every year and love it. Nice pool and snack bar for daytime. Nice resatuarant and bar for nightime.
Average but pricey! Drinks dearer than average and a 1 Euro cover charge per person! We had 6 in our party and even the 6 and 10 year olds were charged it. Would not go out of my way to go again.
We go every year and as usual still one of the best!
Very good! Free drinks and ice cream for the kids as well.
the direct number is 0030 26950 83973
Top notch this place I'll tell you. Some people we knew in June ate here 11 times in their fortnight, we ate 3. Service, food, prices spot on! Can't wait for 18/6/06 to be back
Nice addition to the bars in Alykanas
We liked it here !!
Don't touch trips via the tour operators as they are expensive. Most trips can be booked in the shops for a lot less.
yes pretty good here......we went twice and really good food
we went in twice and were surprised to see how empty it was compared to prev years
Amanda, maybe you could tell us HOW you know this. I strongly suspect the rumours are started by the owners of the complex to keep you there day and night.
yes definitely gone to Australia so Skippy's is no more
I think there are good and bad rooms, I've never stayed there but people I know have stayed and said that not only were the walls between rooms very thin but did not actually go all the way up (like the wall that separates 2 toilet cubicles) so they could hear absolutely everything from next door, including conversations.
Can anyone tell me the cost of air con and kettles for a 2 week stay here please
