Apollo Studios

i would consider the Apollo for my next stay in Alykes but the big apartment is up a few too many steps,but the pool is great and Dimitri is such a top bloke(good geezer!)he likes lots of noise so we abide!we had a day of rain this year and we spent it round the Apollo pool bar and still had a good laugh!(even if he does like to get you drunk by offering free tequilla!)if you want peace and quiet these may not be the right apartments!if you want noise,fun and laughter-they will be!

We have never stayed in the Apollo apts before but freinds of ours have we like to stay close to the beach , we know the people who own them very well.The Apollo pool bar is great especially at night with Dimitri he is very entertaining & good fun,i noticed this year there was a few people moaning about the noise but it does say in the brochure about noise.

Dont know what some people expect when on holiday, why bother going if you only want to complain. We had a fantastic time in Alykes. Apartments spotlessly clean, friendly staff and the maid knows a lot more english than we know greek!! Take earplugs if you dont want to be disturbed by noise. Easy solution to stop the moaners. Met great people. Trips to blue caves and shipwreck with Golden Dolphin is a must but take the early trip!!! See you again. Hi to Babs and mum. Miss you sooo much.x

Good points - 2 minute walk to the sea. (Can't think of more).
Bad points - Dimitri the barman who has to be the most idiotic man on this planet. When he offers you a tequilla slammer, don't take your eyes of him because he switches his drink for water. Also, the noise which is very annoying. The dogs bark all night, the donkey keeps making noise and the walls are very thin, we could here the man next door snoring. And get up early if you don't want to be disturbed by the cleaning lady (Don't try talking to her because the only english she knows is "sorry" and no problem".)

The Apollo apartments were the base for our honeymoon. We booked to go to Zante believing it to be a relatively quiet island, with Alykes being a relatively quiet resort, in comparison to some of the larger resorts.
How wrong we were!!! The noise from the pool bar was expected, and not unwelcome. It's good to hear people enjoying themselves. What we didn't expect, and found most disturbing was the almost constant barking and yelping of the local pack of dogs who appeared to use the Apollo apartments as their local meeting place - made worse by the dog tied up which they teased. We requested that the dog be moved, but he was still tied up when we left, even after we (JOKINGLY) threatened to shoot it....We also had a resident donkey, who was quite vocal.
MOTORBIKES!!! We are both bikers, so are used to the noise of bikes, but at 3 in the morning when they are being driven past your balcony at full throttle, its not very good. The road outside the apartments is part of a large "track" that skirts the salt flats and is used almost nightly for LOCAL young people to race their bikes/mopeds/cars. BE WARNED!!
In the second week we were joined by the neighbours from hell...a group of young people with small children who thought nothing of screaming at each other at 2 in the morning for an hour or so. The owners were approached by a number of residents and did actually threaten this selfish group with eviction if they didn't shut up. When approached, their attitude was "we're on holiday. We can be noisy if we want."
On a better note, we left money and jewellery in our apartment, not in the safety deposit box and it wasn't touched. Also, it was VERY clean and the provision of a shower curtain and mat was most welcome and unusual. As was the regualr supply of loo roll. Other places, I've had to buy my own.
We ate in the restaurant once, but found it very ordinary and the staff ignored my request for a salad instead of chips/vegetables, and when I mentioned it, I just got told the kitchen staff don't read the instructions on the pad, with no offer to right the situation and no discount! So we didn't go there again, but theres loads of better restaurants in Alykes and in Alykanas.
Dimitri is a lovely man and was always friendly and helpful, he stopped shouting "tequilla slammers???!!!" at us when we told him we hate tequilla, but often gave us free shots after we showed him a new recipe! His 2 lads, Bobby and Angelo are like a double act but don't get in the way when they argue!!
Zante is a beautiful island and the people are really friendly. I would go to Alykes again, but if I did, I wouldn't go to the Apollo.
The north of the island is much nicer.

Arrived back in the UK on the 9th Sept after a brilliant 2 weeks at the Apollo studios, the room was basic but seeing I was only sleeping there that didn't matter the bathroom had the usual sink toilet and shower the water was cold first thing but was hot by 4pm as it was heated by solar panels on the roof, there was a safe in the room for your valuables and the cooking facilities were basic but as I wasn't doing any cooking that wasn't an issue, the pool bar had most things you'd expect music and satellite TV and of course the much heard about Dimitri who was always happy helpful and ready to make time for you, as our party of seven didn't have any children we were the ones making the noise until the early hours, the restaurant had some of the best food in Alykes we visited several other places in the small town but always came back to the Apollo, the beach was about 250mtrs away and the town about 500mtrs, all in all we had a great time we made some new friends from around London and we'd go back again tomorrow.

Good points - near the sea
bad points - very noisy,from the bar and donkey outside the rooms
lock your doors or you will have items stolen, even when you are asleep! don't expect any help from the owners because they dont' care and will not offer you use of phone to cancel your credit cards or pass on messages from your bank. Prepare to get up early to avoid the cleaner. All in all a less than good holiday, but Alykes is lovely and sea is warm and clear

The studio was large enough, though the cooking facilities were very poor. We had hoped for a peaceful hoiday but due to a fridge, which sounded as if it would explode any minute, packs of dogs barking, donkeys and the poolside entertainment sleep was not something we got a greatdeal of. Whilst the cleaning lady and Kim are very friendly, the above and lack of any hot water over the entire 2 weeks, would mean that the Apollo would not be at the top of our list for next year's holiday.

Stayed at Apollo Studios at end of May, very clean but basic. Lovely swimming pool and bar, though the music can be loud, especially at night ! Staff very friendly but weren't too concerned that our neighbour had some items stolen from their room while they were asleep, so beware - lock your doors ! All in all a good place to stay - the taverna attached is very reasonable and has some lovely seafood.

Very nice. All staff are very hard working & do an excellent job. Food in the resturant was superb. Accomodation was is excellent condition, unfortunately, the cooking facilities were a bit too basic.

Can anyone recommend cheap & decent car hire? We are taking our baby so would like something reliable without being ripped off.

It was amazing and i'd definetly go back.It had a great restraunt too.

The only thing tahat mared our stay here was the theft of a watch from our room. Also the owners were very indifferent to this matter when approached by us. The room was not broken into so we would suggest people staying here be extra vigilant with their possessions.

Lovely place to stay,accommodation basic but clean,Dimitri the barman was very loud and very entertaining! Staff were all friendly.Would go bsck here again.

What a wonderful place to stay. i really couldn't fault it. The staff were friendly (one waiter was especially nice) and the food was beautiful. 10 out of 10 for the Apollo Studios.

I haven't been here myself, but my parents & sister went to the Apollo in June 2000. They absolutely loved it and said the people were great, apartments basic but good and the pool lovely. They really liked alykes as well. I hope this helps a bit!
