Accommodation in Alykes

Kim C          10/10

we stayed at these apartments in may and june 09.  enjoyed it so much we are going back in september.  the owner is very friendly and always smiling, and speaks very good english.

these are the best apartments we have stayed in, in alykes in the past 15 years.
it is a shame thomas cook have put there prices up so much for next year, but we are still going back in july 2010.  really looking forwards to going back.

Location of these apartments is ideal - right by the salt flats and five minutes from the beach and the centre of Alikes. Rooms are of an adequate size and some are very big. Balconys are lovely.

They were very clean when we arrived but unfortunately were not cleaned all week. There was no change of towels or bed linen. Someone came in one day and just emptied the bin and wiped round the kitchen.
Security was the best we have ever seen in Greece with two secure lockable glass doors onto the balcony.
We were only provided with one pillow each and the owner tried to charge me 2 euros to have another one. I refused and an extra pillow arrived three days later.
The provision of crockery and cutlery is haphazard and inadequate; the kettle had obviously been left behind by previous tennants as it had a British plug and no adapter.
There was a problem with the plumbing and we ended up having to switch off the water supply to the toilet except when we wanted to flush it. The promised plumber never arrived.
If these apartments were managed better we would have no hesitation in recommending them but in the current climate there are better chioces giving better value for money.

Having been to Alikes for the last 11 years and stayed in various apartments, there are basic facilities and there are basic facilties!

The cutlery was practically non-existant consisting of a couple of bent stained t spoons, a couple of stained forks and a few basic knives - not exactly self catering equipment - just as well we never eat in but it would have been nice to be able to prepare and eat breakfast in the apartment!
The plates etc were also very lacking and in most cases plastic.
There was no maid service, except for change over day.
The mat in the bathroom was disgusting to say the least and spent the whole of our weeks holiday out of sight under the sink.
The view could not be faulted and the pool in the adjacent Clio was very clean and quiet which helped to make up for the dismal accommodation.
Would not stay here again unless it was vastly improved and would definately not recommend it.

We had an absolute hoot staying here! If you want fancy facilities and military precision service this is not the place for you - but if you want to have a great experience and loads of stories to tell the folks back home, do try! It's simple & basic but we had one of the best holidays ever!
The owner Mr Argiros is a real character - lots of opinions & will keep you chatting for ages. Don't leave your lights on as he is very energy conscious, and will seek you out! He offered us some of his chickens eggs! There were an elderly couple in the apartment next to us and he even gave them a lift to the airport.
There is nowhere in the description to say that security boxes are available, but in case you are worried they are.
We used the pool and bar at the Panorama opposite, which was great, run by a lovely Greek family (we even wrote a comment about it, we loved it so much). I imagine that the standard of appartment there would be much higher, but we didn't pay very much for Argiros so we knew what we would get. There is no air con - you can hire a fan, but Mr Argiros told us to open the windows! There are anti-mosquito plug ins and screens, but we got bitten quite a lot on our 1st night (it was mid Sept, don't know if that made a difference) so grab yourself some citronella spray from the supermarket (once again, lovely friendly people) when you arrive just to be sure.
The appartments are a short walk from the centre and you walk through amazing spooky salt flats (only a couple of minutes). The resort itself is compact, the beach is beautiful - and everywhere you go people are sincere & friendly.
For what we paid, you couldn't seriously expect more for facilities, but we got more enjoyment than we ever imagined - that's why we gave Argiros a 10!

We stayed at Argiros from 21st-28th and had a really fantastic time. The apartment (no5) was basic but clean, spacious with a fantastic balcony. Not a mosquito bite in site which must have been down to the screens on the doors and windows which we left open every night. We hired a fan from Mr Argiros...a friendly and charming man who has a keen interest on saving energy(don't leave your lights on!). We used the pool at the Clio which was beautiful, well maintained with friendly staff who are always ready to help. Friday night Greek night a must. Another restaurant we would highly recommend was The Olympic - Amazing 5 star food at incredibly low prices. All in all a brilliant and relaxing holiday, we would definitely return to Argiros Apartmentsand Zakynthos.

Highly recommended.

The facilities are very basic, so if you are looking for a real self-catering holiday then it may not be for you, but as we eat out every evening and almost every morning it did not bother us.

We had the two room apartment and the view from the door was breathtaking. It was extremely large and had plenty of room for the four of us and when another 6 family members joined us.(see pics)

The only thing that spoilt it was a boiler fault. a continuous noise that started at 5am and meant we were up with the sunrise (not an altogether bad thing!). The owner did all he could for us, and when it became too much he switched off the water overnight (with all residents agreement). Unfortunatly our last day was also St Dennis' Day and so he could not get a plumber in.

The location is excellent, just a 5-minute walk through the salt flats and your in the main resort/at the beach. This means that it's far enough away from all the noise. The triple glazed doors+mosquito doors+slated  door also meant that, when closed, even the karaoke from the Panorama was silenced (this finished at 12)

Dennis and his family at the Panorama also did everything to make the stay enjoyable. There is no issue with using the pool whenever and there are normally plenty of sun loungers at all times. Word of warning though - put your shoes on - the poolside floor gets very hot.

Cleanlines was adequate. We tended to  rise late and  our bins were not being  emptied. After a chat  with the owner, he asked us to  either  leave them out or let him know when we left.

Really good appartments with very friendly and helpful owner. Short walk from the beach and town centre. Quiet location but there is a bar and pool in the apartments next door if you want them. Lift to all floors. Well recommended

went to argiros in 2003 and it was brilliant owner very friendly and people next door in panorama couldnt do enough they allow you to use pool as argiros has no pool wouldnt hessitate to go back in future.

We stopped her in July 2004 the apartments weren't brill but if your just looking for somewhere to sleep and scrub up its ideal. The owner Arthur is absolutely lovely and so helpful, he brought us fresh vegetables from his allotment everyday. We would defiantle go back to these apartments again.

Stayed in Argiros Aprtments last July - very clean and spacious. Pine furniture and lovely balcony with views of the salt flats and the sea. Owners live on top floor and are very friendly. Take plenty of mosquito spray and plug-ins for the evenings. It was so good we're going back in August 2004.

Myself, husband and 2 boys are staying at the Argiros apartments the end of June, has anybody stayed there recently and if so what was it like?? any comments/advice would be appreciated.

General info about Alikes/Alikanas.

Couldn't fault really. It was fairly basic but if you view your self catering accomodation as simply somewhere to rest your head at night then it's no problem. The apartment was a slow 10 minute walk from the town centre and beach but far enough away to be quiet at night.

This was the first of many trips, hopefully, to Alykes and we were completely satisfied with the Argiros studio where we stayed. It was roomy, very clean and, for Greece, the kitchen was extremely well equipped! loved it and would return tomorrow!

We liked the apartments so much we are coming back next year. And probably the year after and the year after until we can buy our own place! See you in August.
