i just dont understand the whingers.we are going back to the grape vines for the third time and have never had a problem there.as for the the person who stated they had to walk miles for food i cant understand where you were going as its only a 5 min walk to all the bars.we have just had a week in skiathos and had to hire a car just to eat but its all part of the experience.if you dont want to explore and sit around eating at the appartments why not just go to butlins. oh and as for the guy complaining because he couldnt watch football get a life.you travel out there for a break and do what you would at home.how sad.
read sue + micks comments 24/6/08 they mentioned emi and rula!what happened to christina and george?have they left, returning for the 3rd time in july, was looking 4ward to seeing chris and george and the baby.Has anybody got any news about them?
well another year over and back again. had a fantastic 2 weeks at the grapevines emmy and rula really looked after us. and we met some lovely people old and new faces. would like to say hello to mac and gwen and their family who was there for thier daughters wedding. what a lovely bunch of people.and also to martin and michelle and bob and celia.hope you had a great 2nd week. we had a brilliant time and could not have asked for a better holiday. i would like to say hello to andi the owner of the grapes and hope she can get somthing sorted for next year. and to little laura our rep what a lovely young lady. and as for peter street all i can say is he must be a very picky person. we were in room 5 and had no problem. i wish i was in that room now. anyway to all them due going to the grapes have a great holiday. yammas.
Mac and Gwen just back from our visit to Zante 25/5/08-08/06/08, it was our second time at the Grapevines, we had a great time 3 years ago, this time we came for our daughter Donna's wedding, there was 17 of us which included our family and the groom Chris's family and friends and we all had a fantastic time, thanks to the lovely Emi and Rula and their mum Lita and the owners of the Grapevines who all made us very welcome, they were all very friendly and helpful. Thanks again for getting the ironing board for us for the wedding day, it was just what we needed for the wedding dress and a few of the guy's shirts.
This was our second stay at the Grapevines, and again enjoyed the holiday very much, we were tempted to book again, but that choice has been taken away from us, but it appears that Grapevines has been dropped by First Choice.
Cant belive all these good reviews of the grapevines (STAYED 13/5/09-27/5/08), would never return to this place ever again. Had many problems with the room, of which we were told would be sorted. Only two of these were fixed and the rest the managment couldnt care less, they just wanted your money.
This was meant to be our honeymoon and instead it was a honeymoon from hell, so thank you so much grapevines for a horible time.
NEVER AGAIN
hi folks just letting every one know christina had a little boygeorge must be over the moon.we are back on the 3rd of june and have been informed there is now a new building.2 weeks to go yepeee. cant wait to get back. so to all grape vine lovers.yasses
WE ALSO STAYED BETWEEN THE 16TH AND 23RD OF OCT AND CAN HONESTLY SAY I HAVE NEVER MEET ANYONE AS RUDE AS CHRISTINA! WE WERE AFTER A RELAXING HOLIDAY AFTER FOLLOWING HOSPITAL TREATMENT BUT ENDED UP WALKING MILES FOR FOOD AND DRINK AS WASN'T SERVED AT SNACK BAR.WHEN ASKED ABOUT THIS ALL YOU GOT WAS SNAPPED AT AND SPOKEN TO LIKE SOMETHING THEY HAD STOOD IN.AND WE GOT SPOKEN TO THIS ON A NUMBER OF TIMES OVER DIFFERENT THINGS. ONE DAY I JUST WALKED INTO BAR TO LOOK AT FIRST CHOICE BOARD AND GOT ASKED WHAT DO YOU WANT IN QUITE A NASTY MANNER. WE DIDN'T SPEND MUCH TIME AT THE APARTMENT COZ FELT AS IF WE WEREN'T WELCOME THERE AND WAS GLAD TO BE GOING HOME AFTER SITTING ON BALCONY AND HEARING A MASSIVE ROW FROM SNACK BAR, ALL I COULD HEAR WAS CHRISTINA SHOUTING, GLAD WE DIDN'T HAVE AN CHILDREN WITH US BECAUSE THAT IS DEF NOT THE PLACE FOR THEM.
My boyfriend and I have stayed at the Grapevines for 2 years running and have had an absolutely fantastic time. I am only writing a comment because we were so shocked by some of the comments we have seen about the place. Christina and George are two of the loveliest hosts you could possibly wish for and always had time to speak to us. When I had a chronic toothache whilst staying there, George drove for 20 minutes to the next village (without being asked) to get painkillers for me and insisted that I didn't pay! The hotel is lovely, the resort is lovely and all the people we met were incredibly friendly. We would love to go back here every year. We are both in our early twenties and if you're looking for a wonderful relaxing holiday on a gorgeous island then this is highly recommended. We picked the hotel randomly from the brochure not knowing anything about the island but we landed on our feet and ended up in probably the best hotel there! If you're considering going here, please don't be put off by some of the other comments, this is a really great place to go. Isabelle and Andrew P.S. George's chicken and steak pies are gorgeous! Also, Fever bar, which is just round the corner is definately worth a visit.
Congratulations to all those that have enjoyed their stay at Grapevines previously.
WE AND MANY OTHERS STAYING BETWEEN 16TH & 23RD DID NOT.
Never before on a Greek Islands holiday or any where else have we met such inhospitalable hosts.
I t seems that they have a seasonal closure weeks in advance of the First Choice brochure.
They spent the best part of their time sat behind the reception watching tv out of view.
Although advertised as a snack bar, snacks were none existent until requested by the rep.
Then a single toastie took 20minutes.
Food apparently stopped on Sept. 21st.
Drinks fared reasonably better although white wine never reapprearred.
The tv board advertised games from six weeks previously ( sorry but a man thing to watch footy on hols).
When the rep and three parties of guests went to meet, Christina interupted shouting loudly ( we only knew her name from this site and the rep, not by introduction).
Her husband returned and made an angry move towrds my partner which luckily his wife stopped.
I know of one couple requesting an early flight home or removal to another hotel.
Two others were making notes for their own complaint back home.
One returning guest was not going to return again.
Do the owners know what goes on.
I suggest that anyone going to Alykanas do not choose this hotel.
Oh yes the room maid was excellent and cheerful.
Most guests spent their money at Dannys, not an inspiring name but a very nice hotel, bar and snackbar with food and drink, which also meant money lost to Grapevines.
We also had had 2 days of rain, thunder and lighting with power cuts which did not bother us as we had great company with Lynne & Toffer .
Stay here again , you decide

27th Oct 2007
Lovely apartments, clean & tidy.
Once again a brilliant holiday, 3rd year we have stayed at the Grapevines. We met all our friends again, Jo and Mike, Olive & Tony, Judy and Dave plus more couples we met last year, who decided to come back for a 2nd year. It was great! Thank you Christina and George for helping to make our holiday so relaxing. The bar was open for food and drink when we wanted it and for as long as we wanted it. No early nights for us!! After 2 weeks drinking and eating , no exercise apart from putting the towels out on the sunbed, no wonder we put on 1/2stone. The tan has now faded so we have booked our holiday September 2008 already.

just back from our first visit to zante, we stayed at the grape vines and found it very nice.
No worries at all.
Hi sorry correction to my previous comment Margaret and Janis are from Bath. Take Care
Add your comment here Hi everybody we just got back from another great two weeks holiday at the Grapevine Apartments. The apartments now have air conditioning which is a great bonus 40 euros per week. We met some really nice people at the apartments this year and a special mention to Margaret and Janis the sisters from Bristol who helped us with the puppies. Now to the puppies, me and Colin looked after them for a few days until the First Choice rep arranged to get them to a rescue centre. Well Done Brook. I was a bit disappointed with the maid as she did hit the puppies with a brush and they were crying (so sorry I did not leave a tip for her). The only part of the holiday we did not enjoy was the fact George and Christina now have a new restaurant opened in Tsivilli and George is working in the place every evening leaving Christina at the Grapevines herself. Most evenings the bar closed at between 10.30pm and 10.45pm as Christina need to get away. This was a bit of a bummer as most people like to have a meal out and then go back to the bar for a late drink and a chat before going to bed, this was not possible this year. I spoke to a few couples who were disappointed with this set up. Never mind we got a good laugh at Danny's bar. Coiln has got some photo's of the puppies and will post them on this site in the next few days. The weather was great 90 most days. Hello to Bob and Celia they were there for the 15th time. Yes I would got back to Alakanas as the place is still very quite and relaxing. If you get the chance go to the old shoe string beach and beach bar oh soooooooooo very lovely and the perfect place to chill out all day. I hope everybody going to Grapevines this year has as good a holiday as we had. Take Care Anne and Coiln xx
Hi Judy and Dave thanks for sending the email address for George and Christina but unfortunately it is out of action. I cant get a reply on the phone but will keep trying. We are going on the 10th June 2007 and we require a top floor apartment and have requested this with First Choice but just wanted to make sure they told Grapevines about our request as previously they didn't, although we did eventually get a top floor apartment . Colin has an alergy to the flowers on the bottom floor. Thanks again for your help.
Hi Anne & Colin the email address that we have for George & Christina is poulskoul3@hotmail.com

We didn't actually stay at the apartments, but we used their pool & snack bar every day. It's a great place to spend your days lazing in the hot sun.
We've been visiting the Grape Vines for the last few years & made some lovely friends. Hope we'll see you all again next year!!!
Thanks Christina & George

Hi Everyone that stayed at Grapevines apartments from 8th Aug to 15th Aug 2006
christina and george you are simply the best. Thank you for yet another fantastic 2 week holiday. we can not stop thinking about the place. Had great days & nights and will not be hesitating in coming back for the 3rd year running.
hi its joe and mike summerill still looking for jean and david who stay at the grapevines every year our email is joannesummerill@aol.com hope to see you in sep we go tuesday 5
hi everyone just short message to jean and david who stay at the grapevines every
My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 weeks and just arrived home yesterday. The apartments are fantastic and always kept very clean. Our room was cleaned nearly every day during our stay. The views around the apartments are stunning with the rolling green hills and trees everywhere. Its also a good base for exploring around the resort and not far from all the shops, restaurants, pubs and the beach . Christina and George are friendly and very helpful. We will definitely be back to stay here again sometime.
We went with friends last year and have booked again this year. It is quite quiet so suited us perfectly, as it is within walking distance of beach and village centre.
Hi, these apartments are through FIRST CHOICE.
The beach is a 10-15 minute stroll.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.WE ARE VERY SORRY FOR NO CONTACT SO LONG BUT WE HAVE A BIG PROBLEM WITH OUR HOUSE AFTER A BIG EARTHQUAKE AND WE CAN'T RECEIVE AND SEND ANY EMAIL.WE LEFT FROM OUR HOUSE BECAUSE ITS REBUILED FROM ALL OVER.WE HAVEN'T FORGET YOU WE LOVE YOU AND WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN THIS SUMMER.
Another near faultless fortnight (very loud and irritating neighbours for a few days, but that wasn't Grapevines fault). Cleaner still meticulous as ever, George and Christina always cheerful and helpful, even after 18th Oct. quake did fairly serious damage to their house. (When you make it to the UK you'd be more than welcome to stop at our house if your travels take you to the West Country). We'll be back....
Not really, you have to carry on through the centre of Alykanas, past the first junction after the Apollo, then past the main central cross roads, past the Tipsy Toad then take the next left which will take you past Zante Garden and another place before you come to the Grapevines on the left. I'll be there in three days!!!!
Please can someone tell me roughly where in Alykanas the Grape Vine Apts are? We stayed in Alykes this year and walked along the river bank to Alykanas and wondered if it is on that road? Thanks Martin......
Just got back from Alikanas, 2nd time there but 1st time at Grape Vines - would certainly recommend it, very basic rooms but very clean and friendly. A totally relaxing holiday!!!! Met up with a lot of very friendly people! Jon and Elaine Medley
Hi
We returned from Grape vines on the 21st June this year.
Hmm..thought Sunstart was supposed to be budget! The holiday we had last year was £777..this year £734 but they want £843 for identical dates next year. Curious.
Just got back yesterday,we had a fantastic time the weather was great as usual.Christina and george made us very welcome.Have booked for next year from the sun start brochure through co-op travelcare. |
Just to confirm what has been said about these Apartments now going under Sunstart. They are now on the Sunstart website but you will have to,"rattle", through a fair few Apartments before you get there, something like 20 !! Well worth it when you get there. We stayed at these Apartments back in May, see report.
hi to jean and david seen the message you left on the comments page hope your all ok are all the gang going over in september if you would like to e mail me and mike our email is joannesheppard55@aol.com do you no were andy and christos are to hope to here from you soon
Peter/Rosslyn, thanks very much for that Sun Start are doing it but it isn't appearing on their web site to date.
rachel we have same problem as you, have been informed by travel agent that SUN START are a subsidiary of first choice and they are the ones to check out, hope this is some help:)
we stayed at the grape vines apratments from 03-07-05 to 19-07-05" hello to christina and george, we both want to thankyou for making out first holiday away with each other most enjoyable and relaxed. we met some brilliant people out on holiday " pirate face andrew and katharine" and also "ian and dionne" both couples made our holiday so speacial as we have made life time friends .
the apartments were very clean and also the poor area and bar was always very clean. the location had some breath taking views especially looking down from the highest point of the island which we went up on the jeep safari. christina and george made our holiday so welcoming and were also willing to help especially when i was stung by a wasp !. christina and george set up a lovley bbq with great food and very good cocktails which gave me mnay hangovers!.We stayed at the Grapevines in June, second year running and loved it all over again. Looking to book again for the same time next year and have just been in contact with First Choice and they've said they aren't taking it next year - not in the broucheurs etc. Has anyone got any ideas who is going to take it or if it's going independant - if so anyone got any details? So many if's!! Any help gratefully received. Thanks Rachel & Mark
Wow we had a FANTASTIC time at the Grape Vines, Alikanas!!!! Now back in Blighty we are missing the apartments and resort and warm Greek people soooo much. George and Christina are the warmest, kind and polite hosts we have ever had the pleasure to meet, with wicked sense of humours!!! They made us feel so welcome and relaxed straight away in this beautiful location. We loved the setting literally in middle of the grape vines and away from the main strip of bars and restaurants for a bit of peace. We could not fault the accomodation, location, food or service in any way and will definitely be back. The BBQ on Thursday night was fun and excellent value- beware of George & Chritina plying residents with Metaxa shots they are like rocket fuel!!! Met some excellent people during our stay, including Charlie & Rachel from Maidstone who we met early on in our stay and went to several quiz nights and had a few cocktails & karaoke together, and we hope to stay in touch. We hired a car for a week and discovered many little quiet beaches for sunbathing and exploring, also took a boat trip around the island. Tip about the airport, which is the only set back to having a holiday in Zakynthos- Christina helped us to book a taxi through a local firm to take us to the airport for our flight home (she advised us not to pay over 20 euros for this). This worked well as it meant we spent less time waiting at the crowded airport along with many other Brits waiting for flights.
hi jo & mike hope you remeber us were jean & david who always go to the grape vines in sept with sean jane celia bob & mick and sue we are going on 20 sept this year so we might see you for a few days hope your both ok
hi to everyone who normally stays at the grapevines in september we think its a great place we are going back in september we got married there in 2003 on sep 13 we had the best time ever and wedding thanks to the grapevines it will be are 4 time there anyone no were andy is or christos and girls e mail me if any one remembers us we are going 6 of sep
Jan and I spent two weeks at the Grape Vines in June. Enjoyed every minute of it. Loved the way George cleaned the sunbeds at the end of the day.
hi grapevines, me and neil are just back on sunday, we loved it very much, really enjoyed ourselves and loved evrybody we met especially my wee prince tynan(hope to see him soon) sorry neil!!!!!
we loved it very peaceful the most funniest perople were anne and colin they were like 18 year olds with thier pranks
chritina and george were fantastic, anything you wanted you got, very funny and a great laugh they are also a bad influence getting you drunk on funny looking shots, ut we have no bad reports for the grapevines or our hosts for the fortnight we had.
we will defo be going back.
hi sam and jen, phil, coleen, and my wee prince tynan, and alsoa big hi to julie and mathew (ur wee pals), and last buut not least anne and colin
loved yous all
Catherine & Neil fae Glesga
thought i would give yous a wee picture of my boys LOVE YOUS
me and my fiance have only come back from here two day's ago and have already been back in contact with phil (below) and chrissy and george. chrissy and george are the most polite, entertaining and hospitable couple we've met abroad, no problem was too big and any advice given was definatly worth listening to . me and jen went there for our 21st birthday's and will be going back the same time next year. the food in the apartments was blinding 'mama' is an excellent cook, but when you do venture out you are spoilt for choice with places to eat, drink and get merry. there aren't many club's so boozy, aggravating groups of lad's are few and far between, alykanas is a chilled out, laid back resort with fantastic scenery (go on the jeep safari and take binochulars). grape vines is full of people who want to get to no you and relax so nobody leaves without a hoard of people waving you off, just watch the cocktails on the last night, poor jen
Our first visit to the Grapevines.Well what can you say, everything was perfect.George and Christina were excellent hosts and made our stay most enjoyable. When we return to Zante we will definitly stay at the Grapevines.Missing the place already wish we did not have to leave. All the best to George and Christina on your wedding in March 2006 bye for now Mac & Gwen from sunny Elgin Scotland.
Returned from Grape Vines yesterday, been home just over 12 hours and missing everything and everyone already!
Had one of the best holiday's ever apart from our 4 yr old son cutting his eye open and having to have 4 stitches!!Returned yesterday, 29th, after having spent a fortnight here, our first time on the island. Enjoyed every single minute of it. For this year there is a new couple Managing the place, Christin & George, they look after the Bar during the evenings. During the day is a guy called PAUL, a super person, he is warm & friendly to all his guests. We hit it off with him as soon as our bags were unpacked & remained firm friends throughout. Anyone coming to these Apartments for the first time, you don't need to bring a kettle & mugs as they are provided !!!! As for the Cleaning Lady, we concur/add to Mikes comments that she does an excellent job, perhaps a little OVER zealous if anything. ANY clothes laying on the floor, she picks up, folds up & places on the bed. She is VERY partricular about emptying the kettle, so only put in there what you need, don't make the mistake of refilling it like we did, in readiness for a brew later in the day because it won't be there !! ALL food purchased here is presented to perfection. PAUL is a Qualified Chef, Christins cooking is also excellent. At lunchtime try the Chefs Salad(one between two people), on a couple of days we had a special pizza with this, ALL is freshly prepared & looks too good to eat when served. There are two Blackboards, one has a list of Greek Specialities served on designated days of the week Friday to Wednesday(be warned, the Stifado is RABBIT), you order these the day before. Thursday is B.B.Q. Night, there is a choice of Steak, Souvlaki or Sausages, again, you order the day before, cost E7.50, this includes a pint of beer, ladies can opt for wine. A night NOT to be missed. Paul did the cooking when we went & George did it on 26th May(we were unable to attend this one due to coming back from Kefalonia but the report from those who did attend was excellent). The other Blackboard shows what MAIN dishes are available daily. There is also a Snack Menu on the Bar. Be warned, bottles of Milkshake cost E3 here but over at Dannys Supermarket they are E1 !!
The location and the cleanliness were in fact perfect. Late booking and for us as a family it could not have been bettered at any cost. Basic but completely adequate accommodation cleaned daily by constantly smiling and friendly lady. We've never been back to revisit anywhere (other than Glastonbury) but are rebooking identical package for this year. L
