Restaurants in Argassi

Paul C  (18 August 2005)

We had a number of meals here and were always very pleased with the food and with the friendly service. The slight down side was the owner who always struck me as being a little too uptight to be working in a restaurant. To Irini, Eva, Panos, Daniel and Angelo, many thanks for your kind and friendly service.

Dave W  (10 August 2005)

In all the Four years we have been going to Zante, this was by far the worst meal ever. We had a table of 10 so it wasn't an isolated case, The pizza's were hard and the greek meals far from traditionally prepared. This was the most expensive restaurant we ate at. Never ever would I eat there again.

Lyndsey   (19 July 2005)

Wasn't overly impressed, very expensive for what we had.  I had fresh fish which was pretty balnd and boring, we both had calamari so start with and it came with chips!!!!  Most expensive meal we had and not really worth the money.

Pauline H  (28 June 2005)

This was the only restaurant that we ate in during our fortnight that we had a poor meal in. The food was absolutely shocking. One of our starters was mashed potato with garlic. We were presented with dish full of Smash (out of a box, definitely not real potato) with an olive flung in the middle. It was stone cold and when we highlighted this to the waiter he was quite annoyed and asked did we want him to "stick it back in the micro"!!! This he did and returned with dish but it was still unedible. Our main meals were brought to us whilst we were still eating our starters, left on a spare table for a while before being taken back to the kitchen. One of the main meals was a pizza which was tiny in comparison to any of the other restaurants but still the same price. Definitely do not waste your money here!!

Best lunch we had whilst in Argassi.

Steve   (19 September 2004)

we went to Carissimo on the last day of holiday for our breakfast Dawn my partner had english breakfast as well as the kids I had a Zakynthean breakfast which was scrambled eggs feta cheese and a neapolatean sauce and I must admit it was the best breakfast I've had in zante the service was great the price was good tooif we returned to Zante we would be sure to return there. Excellent

Annika J  (17 September 2004)

The best restaurant in Argassi, I think....good food and great guys, the glas was never empty and the food was always fantastic..test the lamb souvlaki, the mousaka or the great pasta they have there...
Please mail me if you have been there this year.. Annika_ed@hotmail.com

Gary, laura, chloe and do D  (10 July 2004)

Carissimo was by far our favourite place to eat. We went every morning for a lovely english breakfast and had a few evening meals too. In the evenings my daughter and i were given flowers and turkish delights which was really sweet.. little thoughts go a long way. The food was a little bit dearer than some other places but the quailty of food and service was greater so it wasnt an issue. The waiters Doni and Angelo were so nice, as soon as we walked in they would put our son in a highchair and put an extra cushion on the chair for our daughter. They were very kind to our kids, giving them biscuits and sweets and making them laugh! They even bought my daughter a lovely necklace on her last day. I wouldnt definatly go back again and again.

Terry D  (06 July 2004)

We ate here because the guy stood at the front was very pleasant and
explained the menu to us, however the main waiter was a nightmare ,running
around all the tables trying to please everyone, no sooner had you finished a
glass of wine his arm appeared over your shoulder topping it up again, not
the kind of relaxed service you need on holiday.

Rita S  (11 June 2004)

We had a great week in Zakynthos in May. Our first dinner was at Carissimo, and the service was fantastic. Our glasses was never empty during the whole meal and the food was very good. Everytime we came, we got a rose and we felt more than welcome. Thank you for being a part of making our holiday the greatest. Big hug to Doni, I hope I will see you next year... Rita xxx

Andrew P  (06 June 2004)

Slow service and not great food. Also quite expensive for the quality of food we were served up.

Heike T  (25 May 2004)

I found out what happened to my friend Dimitris. He got married and is staying in Anafonitria with his family selling olive oil, table cloth, and all kind of neat things. It is worth dropping by. You can see the ship wreck from the top on your way over there. It was nice to see the cooks from the Carissimo again! Keep up the good work!

Myra B  (25 May 2004)

This was the worst place I have ever been, we arrived with an 18 month old baby in a buggy, which they paced right in front of the kitchen so the waiters were falling over him. They had no high chair, no childrens menu (though advertised they have). Gave the baby a massive bowl of boiling hot spicy soup with a spoon that wouldnt fit in his mouth. Gave him milk in a pint glass. Gave his an adult knife and fork and placed his meal directly in front of him, even though it was very hot. Then they poured my coke into a glass that already had water in it and ignored me when I commented on it. They were the most disinterested waiters I have ever met, usually they are all over you when you have children but we were oviously an inconvience to them. It was only 6.30pm not even busy It was also the most exensive meal we had during our entire stay and it was revolting.

Heike T (11 February 2004)

Hi! Does anybody know what happenend to my friend Dimitris who used to work at the Carissimo? I have known him for about 10 years. I came to Zakinthos 6 times and we suddenly lost contact almost 2 years ago now. I tried to call him at home but his Dad only speaks Greek. Markis, if you read this, please help me! Heike

Andrea K  (22 October 2003)

we ate here only once after it was recommended on this site and it was awful. The price for 1 bottle of house wine 2 starters and two main meals was 38 euros and the food was crap. we went end of season and later found out the house wine we were buying from them for 8 euros was only 2 euros in the shops.
We ate up at target every night after then see my comment on that resturant.

David P  (04 October 2003)

Keith P  (25 August 2003)

Service was superb with very happy and chatty waiters that made you feel most welcome. The food was excellent too, especially the Sea Bass.

Gary A  (22 August 2003)

This was a fantastic restaurant and if you are staying anywhere in Zante you should definitely try it atleast once. Not only is the food wonderful, especially the fish, but the service and price are too. And you won't be bored as almost everyone in there has such pesonality and will definitely make you laugh. We will certainly miss it and hope to go back sometime soon.

Kirsty C  (20 August 2003)

This was by far the best restaurant in Argasi. The food is fantastic and the staff are some of the friendliest people i have ever met. If you go there you have to have the fresh fish that they keep at the entrance even if you're not keen on fish because it is wonderful. They were always very polite and real gentlemen and you should definitely, definitely go there. (Especially if you like free drinks!)

Sandra S  (15 August 2003)

stayed for the second time in zante this year last time being 7th Aug 2003 till the 14th aug 2003, although we couldnt stay in Argassi this time we had to stay in laganas but still paid the sometimes 11, 12 or 13 euros to go into argassi to go to Carissimos, they do a lovely carbonara and my daughter loved her jacket potatos but their menu is a lot wider than that, if you visit argassi you must eat in Carissimo the service is excellent and the staff are really friendly, hello to Donnii and Spirros (dont expect i spelt that right) love sandie and Tasha xx

Barry N  (15 July 2003)

Had a couple of greek salads here for lunch one day and two soft drinks. Was good but came to 16 euros which seemed a little steep. Good place for a snack though

Kirsty M  (10 July 2003)

WE HAVE HAD SOME GREAT MEALS HERE AT CARRISMO,IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN BUSY AND PEOPLE HAVE ALL BEEN HAPPY,WELL WORTH A VISIT!!!!GOOD FREINDLY STAFF IN LOVLEY SURROUNDINGS.

Daniel B  (08 July 2003)

We went to carissimo on 5th july 03 and the food was ok and the price. We ate our main course but when we got to desserts it took half an hour to make 2 banana splits and 2 creme caramels.

Charlene R  (06 January 2003)

the guy on the door looked like one of my mates backhome, he was quite cute! He liked my friend alot as everytime we walked passed he tried to chat to her! Even in The Factory he wanted to dance with her!! the food was ok, nothing to special, but overall it was ok...if you just wanna get in,eat and out! but not if you wanna relax...

Jim B  (13 November 2002)

Went here several times after being coaxed in first time by monica on the door .So it was slightly dearer- but it was lots better-food always great staff always friendly'

Cassie P  (25 September 2002)

breakfast quite nice-kids had bacon rolls that were good

Loz H  (24 September 2002)

Don't go here !! We were rushed through our dinner - the waiters were clearing away plates before others in our party had finished. Food was average but they had a couldn't care less attitude

Craig P  (09 September 2002)

If you fancy spending the day in bed with dodgy guts then this is the place for you. Firstly you have a really annoying little bloke trying to coax you in, secondly, rain water comes through the roof and thirdly you will be served with lamb chops dipped in tar. Please avoid.

Nicola M (25 August 2002)

i wnat to know if there are any pictures of the actual restaurants, particularly carrissimo. i went there and thought it was great. i fancied the guy on the door, Robert, and didn't get a photo of him before i left and i want one. can you help?

Nicola M  (25 August 2002)

we were on a two week stay in argassi and we ate here several times. i lioved the chicken slouvaki and the saginaki cheese! the 'meet and greet' guy who makes you want to eat there really did make me want to eat there. he was very attractive. what the hell he was damn fine! he was called Robert and he's only twenty years old so leave him alone. i thought that he was a really great guy. giving out flowers and shaking your hand as you left. made the experience of eating there alot more personal than some of the other restaurants in the area. if you're going to eat anywhere eat here. robert was the best looking guy in the world!

John M  (05 August 2002)

WE WENT HERE LAST WEEK,WE ONLY CALLED IN FOR A SNACK,THE PORTIONS WERE HUGE THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT, I CANT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE HAVE HAD A BAD DEAL, AFTER ALL IT WAS FULL,WITH PEOPLE WHO HAD SUNTANS(NOT NEW ARRIVALS)AND WHO KNEW THE STAFF.WE ALSO CALLED HERE LAST YEAR,AND HAD A GREAT MEAL,MIND YOU, YOU CANT ALWAYS PLEASE EVERYONE.

Kirsty M  (05 August 2002)

VERY GOOD TAVERNA,I HAD A TUNA SANDWICH FOR LUNCH,IT WAS MASSIVE !IT CAME WITH CHIPS AND SALAD TOO. THE PLACE WAS ALWAYS VERY BUSY AS WELL.

Kirsty M  (03 August 2002)

Restaurant looks nice despite idiot trying to coax you in. Food nice although wasn't a great deal of it. In fact I think it must have been the smallest portion of Lasagne I've ever seen . Even kids meals get a larger portion than they were offering.

Jon & Kay  (22 July 2002)

Very enjoyable, Very attentative waiters and food was excelent, Service can be a little slow but whats the rush! One of the few places where we saw no increase in prices when the euro was introduced. Definately a must!

David W  (20 July 2002)

ONE TO AVOID. LOOKS ATTRACTIVE FROM THE OUTSIDE AND THE STAFF ARE VERY FRIENDLY TRYING TO COAX YOU IN. BUT THE FOOD IS A REAL LET DOWN.

J L  (11 July 2002)

Visually appealing, with its rotating display case and spacious layout but, in computer games parlance, all good graphics and no gameplay. Despite being the largest eatery in the resort the 'chefs', for want of a much better word had not yet learned to cook rice; it was hard and dehydrated, and was probably made a day or two before. The vegetables added to it were clearly straight from a tin, and overdone too. The wine was poor and to my annoyance, was filled up after every sip. The kebab was dry and hadn't been marinated in anything, as far as I could tell. If anyone likes this place they obviously need to get out more. To round of the visit, they even charged for the napkin. As Yorkshireman George Whitebread, the Harry Enfield character once said: 'I've got two words to say about this establishment: 'sh**e, and sh**e.

Richard G  (03 March 2002)

Over the last few years I have used the Carissimo the first time in 1983 Have found the staff very polite and the food good.Don't mind waiting a bit when on holiday.Relax as the Greeks do.I always make it my first port of call for our first meal. I Must admit you can eat in a different place every night and not be disappionted with the food.

Emma W  (30 September 2001)

We visited several restaurants during out 2 week stay in Argassi, and Carrissimo was by far the best. The food was delicious, the setting was lovely, and the waiters were lovely, too! These waiters were definitely the most hard working I saw, and they were extremely friendly. They definitely made our stay In Zakynthos. I don't know what is wrong with all the people who have given this fabulous restaurant a poor review, as this is an excellent place to eat and we loved it so much that we went there on our last night, and they definitely made it a very special night to remember. Many thanks to all the waiters, especially to Vasili(-sorry I don't know how to spell your name!). Emma Wood, 14 yrs.

Diane P  (23 August 2001)

We had an excellent meal here, although thought it expensive compared to some of the other place we ate in. The King Prawn Kebab were lovely! The waiters were friendly although they seemed rushed.

Tracey   (18 August 2001)

First impressions count, & with an attractive water feature at the front it looks appealing. Unfortunately it was a big disappointment. The "meeter & greeter" who drums up business at the door is very smarmy - so be wary if you are female & dining alone! Waiters seemed extremely rushed, took ages for food to arrive & then main course arrived before we had finished our starters. Not very professional & mediocre food. Try Picadilly if you want good good, excellent service & very professional staff (only restaurant where the poor waiters wear ties!). Ask for Thomas - the head waiter. Try Ilision for great Greek night.

Andrea R  (14 August 2001)

It took absolute ages for our food to come, but when it did, we were not dissappointed. It was lovely. Chicken Sovlaki. So nice. Staf are a bit slow during the day, best time to go is at night, when they have wakened up.

John M  (03 August 2001)

BEEF STIFADO A MUST HERE. LIVE MUSIC NEXT DOOR. THANKS TO BILLY FOR THE FREE WINE AND THE NICE GIFTS HE GAVE MY WIFE, ALISON AND OUR FRIEND KAREN.

Suzanne W  (15 July 2001)

Wish we hadn't bothered going. It was the worst meal that we had and that was after they had tired to give us the wrong food twice!

Dale G  (10 July 2001)

this was the best food i had while over there. it was great, the food was nice and so was the service we went there a number of times and enjoyed it everytime.

Alix B  (01 July 2001)

Although this restaurant was more expensive, the food was good! The waiters were very friendly and tried to teach us some Greek!

Connie B  (27 June 2001)

Don't bother!

Nick W  (23 May 2001)

We found the food was good, but they seemed to rush you with the meal, we had not even finished our starters and the waiter was stood over us with are main course. we noticed the same happening with other people to. Also very overpriced compared with other restaurants.

Heloise T  (20 April 2001)

My sister says there is a nice sea view and the waiters give you floweres
