WE STAYED AT THE VENUS HOTEL IN MAY 2004 AND ATE AT THE ESCAPE 3 TIMES. THE FOOD WAS WOUNDERFUL. TRY THE PORK ALA GREEK, LAMB WITH MINT SAUCE, AND WOUNDERFUL WINE. IT HAS A RELAXING BUT VERY GREEK ATMOSPHERE. PLEASE GO AND TRY IT.

We went to Kalamaki with our two children in 2000 and 2001 and frequantley ate in Escape. Looking forward to returning this year with our two children, I'm sure that we will visit the new Chill out bar, well we are going to be on holiday!!

My partner and I stayed at the Hotel Venus just opposite Escape and found this Taverna/Restaurant to be the absolute best in Kalamaki. We tried Escape on our first evening..and the food/service and location were all excellent. We visited several different places to eat throughout our stay but non of them matched up to quality we found at this restaurant. Maria the owner was lovely and nothing too much trouble..Please visit Escape as you will NOT be dissapointed, especially if you try the MEZE...its huge!

Not the best food, but we found it to be one of the cheapest places to eat.

Probabiy the worst meal we had but seen as all the places are truly gorgeous it had major competition. But the free drinks and helpful staff made it worthwhile.

Just wondering whether anyone can confirm whether this is the same restaurant that is just opposite the beach, and does the gorgeous Baked Feta.(you get to it by going past the Hotel Venus and Exotica, and there is a long road on the left, and from what I remember, its just at the bottom). Any help would be much appreciated, as we are going back in two weeks, and would love to go again.

We were so pleased to find Escape on our first evening and went back lots of times - usually ate Greek, Kleftico etc. Everyone so friendly, we liked the setting, away from the main street - prices good - what more could you ask for?!!!

I don't believe you don't have any photographs. O.k. then I will find one to send because this place is in the countryside down the lovely lane that takes you to the beach. If you are lucky you will notice the bats and the owl hunting in the field to the side of Escape. The people who run this restaurant are really lovely and I would very often call in just to use their toilet and enjoy an iced tea in the cool shade on my way to the beach. I will enjoy a meal here in September, definitely. Great place, food, people and wildlife too!!

We eat here 4 times,everytime was great,staff with sense of humour and good service,if we were returning to Zante we would be happy to eat here again,but what happened to the donkey in the field beside escape?

It amazes me reading some of the comments below... I can't believe some people are talking about the same restaurant. As an international business traveller who has eaten in quite literally, some of the best restaurants in the world, I think Escape is a wonderful, wonderful place. The service is outstanding and the food is absolutely fantastic... always! We have been to Kalamaki two years running we ate at Escape virtually every night on both occasions. The only times we didn't was to try and find another restaurant as good... quite simply... we couldn't! Maria, Tassos and all the gang. Keep up the good work. We'll see you next year!

We went here because it was close to our hotel. The setting was pretty, but the food wasn't nearly as good as other places we have been.
The service was quite good, they seemed reasonably friendly and we had a good seat.

Just returned from Zante for the 2nd time and Escapes has to be one of the nicest restaurants, although most of them are and you really are spoilt for choice. A lovely setting and very friendly staff (was surprised one of the waiters remembered us from 2 years ago - we werent that bad were we?). Ate there a few times and we were impressed at the waiters actually running around with sweat dripping from their faces because it was so busy - cant imagine that happening in England!Keep up the good work Maria and hope to see you again soon. Would recommend this restaurant for its food/service and cleanliness!

Didn't like Escape.
Waiting a long time for the food. When it did come, food was average.
On the night we ate there, some people sitting near us, had waited over an hour, finally had enough and walked out.

We found Escape in our second week, a long walk from our hotel. we had decided to visit following reports on this page, and have to say were somewhat disappointed. The size of the meals was good, and the service adequate, but we found the food a little oily. I had the beef stifado on special menu, which had a good flavour, and others tried the chicken in varous forms. Their opinion was the food was fairly bland.

Absolutely fantastic. Beautiful setting, the staff are really friendly and nothing is too much trouble. They love children and are happy to deal with very odd request. The portions are really big and therefore excellent value for money. In fact it puts Mermaids to shame. A brilliant taverna.

EXCELLENT, it is one of the few quiet tavernas in the resort that has a true quiet greek feel to it....we ate the sea food platter and it was gorgeous!!!!

I have been to Kalamaki 7 times, my mum has been 14 times, we are going back on Friday, and we eat here nearly every night. The food is gorgeous, the service is good and there is a lovely atmoshere. Maria and her staff are very helpful and friendly and i couldn't say a bad word about this place.

I recommend the chicken souvlaki, omelette, cheese and bacon pizza and the garlic pasta(but only if you like garlic cos its strong)

Like previous comment - we went here on the 15 June and were certainly not impressed. Service was slow, food was far from impressive - small portions and tasted quite bland. We ordered kleftico and moussaka. Moussaka was so runny when you got to the bottom it was a horrible combination of water and oil. I think there was an automatic service charge as well which I certainly wouldnt have paid if I had known. Suffice to say did not go back.

just ate there 2 days ago, our second visit.friendly & informal, ideal for families, the food was excellent, go for the litre of village wine for a real treat!!a favourite of our stay.

We eat every other night at Escape and I have never manged to finish a meal yet. It is quality and friendly. Just a pitty Babbis is doing hesnational service. But ewe did get tosee him last week for 2evenings.

Fantastic! Lovely staff, fab food and good prices. Shame it's tucked away. Had Fillet Steak in pepper sauce and also chicken souvalaki - not large meals but just enough. Quality food not quantity. Very tasty, meat was very tender. mmmmm wish I could go there again tonight but back home now!

great bar for relaxing

Shock horror, how could anybody not find Escape just THE place to have some good food, great service and a wonderful time? Our daughter (3) can't wait to go back next year and continue her romance with Stellios. Maria was a babe (all the best for the wedding) and to everybody else, too many to mention, cheers. Escape is perfect for a relaxed lunch, long drink or superb evening meal. Good selection of food and yes, drinks. And the ice cold glasses just add the final touch. Thanks to 'em all at Escape.

Evey day after coming up from the beach, we go to escape for drinks and a light meal. I would recommend it to anyone. Service of bar staff was brilliant,it is an easy going, family welcome resturant. It was very clean, even a shower in the toilets. Pint glasses were in the freezer so your pint would be very, very cool. you can't go to kalamaki and not go to escape.

escape was a really nice restaurant! and bar!! the food was really good, i recomend lasagne! the prices were really good! and the waiters and barmen were very, very friendly!;) we went back nearly every night for a drink and 2 see our friends-all of the staff! can't wait 2 come back next year! c ya then! thanx 4 making our holiday memorable! xx

loved it! the food the drinks the waiters it was all fabulous! although the main reason we returned every nite of our 2 week holiday was to visit our very good friend, Speiro, the bar man the food was stil more than enough reason to keep going back! i recommend it to any1!! see you next year!

we went to escape for a meal about 5 times during the 2 weeks we were there. we went in there virtually every nite on our way bak from town as well (nufin to do wiv the bar man of course)the food was always good and drinks were unbelievably cheep considering how much alcohol was in them! One nite we definitely livened the place up we stayed there till 2 in the morning and were behind the bar making our own cocktails and everything! the bar man is gorgeous and its worth going just for the view in there. i got to no him quite well ;)

Just back from Zante, we stayed at Hotel Dennys just round the corner from Escape. In the end up we had a meal at "Escape" 3 times, because we liked the price, service and the food. Highly recommended and the staff are friendly. P.S. Avoid "Zakanoh" on the main Kalamaki road, in contrast to "Escape" it was very poor indeed.

Try the Lamb Kleftico absolutely superb, also a good range of food for children. Everybody made welcome.

Now these people know how to cook a pork chop! the fish is good too, try the pork chop escape, lovely. Very good with the children and serve quite a good breakfast aswell. Staff very friendly,

It is 2 years since we ate here and they welcomed us with open arms. Made us feel so welcome and valued as friends. The food was as excellent as we remembered, was given a free litre of wine after our meal. On the last night was given a bottle of red wine to bring home and drink in winter and think of them.

mmm, interesting...we ordered seafood platter and got tuna, octopus and mussels out of a tin with fish fingers....funnily enough we did not go back for more.....

This is probably the most honest Resteraunt we have ever been to. I think it was our third visit in two weeks and we asked for the bill. The waiters were busy so we left the cash on the table, one minute later we were shouted at and a waiter was running after us. I thought I had not left enough cash, but I had left 10.000 drm more than I should have!!!

We ate here on several occasions throughout our 2 week stay. It was a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The food was very good as well as the service (and the sexy male waiters). Well worth a visit. Keep up the good work. Johnny & Matt. X

Second year back to Kalamaki many nights spent eating or just drinking in Escape.And this was our first stop this year. We were welcomed with open arms and remembered by Maria and her staff. The food was very good value for money and always plenty of it. Very clean toilets, laid back atmosphere and good surroundings. Highly recommended.

nice quite restruant, until john macfaddon arrived and drank all the wine, alison is normally seeing cows instead of goats after another drink here, before retue rning to dennys for one more ,and one more only, (hee hee)

Service was excellent, location was excellent, price was good.....BUT....meal was just OK. No real problem......but with other places serving memorable meals, this was just errrr..OK

last october spent one wonderful week on this paradise isle all the locals very friendly had some very nice meals at the escape run by maria

Last year we spent two weeks on this Jewel of an island.We stayed at the Hotel Sirocco in Kalamaki.We ate out at several local tavernas/restaurants. Without doubt the most enjoyable times were spent at the "ESCAPE" taverna in Kalamaki.The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff were unbelievably friendly and helpful.
