We have been to the Mavrikos now every year for 5 years now, and have already booked our holiday for next year 15th July 2005, and i can't wait to get back. Going to the Mavrikos and seeing John, Marianne and their family, Jean & Keith (alias Elvis), its like going home to me and my family. We love it!!! Everyone at the Hotel is friendly and we always made to feel very welcome. The rooms are cleaned daily, and security is excellent. People complain about the drainage, however we have never found it a problem, you expect things to be different when you go to a different country, if you dont then you should'nt go!! Love you all!! See you soon. Love John, Paula and Alex x x x The Toon Army!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have just arrived back from our Honeymoon stay at the Mavrikos and all we can think about is when can we go back. I have never been anywhere else in the world where the people have been so friendly. The staff were superb with nothing being too much trouble. John Mavrikos was an absolute star! The Hotel is situated up a small hill and over looks the town. There are plenty of places to eat out within a short walk (Try The Athena - Best meal in town.)
Our room was well maintained and cleaned to a high standard every day. This was our first visit to the Mavrikos and Greece but it certainly wont be our last. Thanks John & Staff for a Great Honeymoon
we came back on 24/10/2003 had a great time for two weeks the staff was brill (jean, peter the fisher man get out !(flys in the fish bag)john the boss man and his lovely family, lena who gave the pool tokens for the kids john the bar man .lets not forget ash little ash behind the bar with his peanuts he's a crap shot ,the hills not that bad after a while, and they make a great full breakie ,kids zone is great for the kids jo and sarah was kind and fun from michael and kim, graces bar is a good stop off for grub too brit bar milk shakes are very nice .bye for now from alan and sam, michael and kim
got back yesterday after a lovely stay at the Mavrikos hotel. didn't like the hill much but the walk was enjoyable when used to it. I would recommend the Mavrikos to anybody, it is a lovely place to stay and with a pool table and ping pong plus the swimming pools, it was easy to kepp occupied on either a rainy day or one where you don't want to do much. the staff are very friendly and helpful when here is a problem and the pool side bar food was great. thanks for a great stay!!
Just got back, had never been before so was a bit worried about THE HILL as i have angina, but it was no problem its not that bad at all and its only about 50 yards. Apartments very clean and roomy (self-catering) staff very friendly. Bit of a walk to the beach but enjoyable and a nice beach when you get there very shallow water. Only drawback we found was evening entertainment was alright if you are a football fan as most of the bars showed at least 2 matches a day with very little live entertainment. But we make are own anyway, but yes a nice place to go back to
Just got back from a fantastic holiday in Tsilivi, where we stayed at the Mavrikos. We couldnt have asked for a better hotel. It was clean and friendly and the hill (more of a gentle slope)that is mentioned in the brochure is a doddle! Jean and co behind the poolside bar were great, providing me with my tuna toastie every afternoon!! Its not often I say this, but I would definately go back to the Mavrikos and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.
I can't believe the comments that I have just read from the two people who put comments on August 31st. We were at the Mavrikos at the same time but wonder about these people!!! Yes a lad did cut his foot on the pool light but this was dealt with properly and also Phil who cut his leg while trying to put this right was dealt with properly. The pool was closed till it had been checked by health and saftey and was passed. The bar staff we found were very good especially during the day ,when it was very busy you were never kept waiting for long and the food was very good. These people that have made comments were usually found at or around the bar most of the time so I don't know why they are complaining!!! John and Marianna and all of the staff make you very welcome and to us it just feels like going home. We have been to the Mavrikos for the last 6 years so I think that says it all.!! see you next year
looking at booking for a week in october. was in tsilivi earlier in the year so know the town quite well. Can someone give me some names of places near by the Mavrikos so I can get my bearings!
HI EVERYONE JUST A QUICK NOTE TO SAY WAS HAD A EXCELLENT TIME POST MORE SOON MARTIN AND DAWN 16TH - 30TH JUNE 2003
We have been to the mavrikos three times now and are planning to come back in sept with friends.Everytime we have been the staff have been very friendly and made our stay very enjoyable. We most look forward to seeing jean again and tasting her wonderful cooking. There is a slight hill to the hotel but by the end of the holiday you wont even notice it.
Just came back from a 2 week stay at Mavrikos with my husband and 3 year old daughter. Would definitely recommend it to anyone with children. Hotel is in great location, 2 minutes walk from town up a little hill (heart attack hill is just nonsense!) Hotel and kids club was great for kids, the reps becca, sarah & jo were fantastic.
Apartments were excellent with great cooking facilities. Cleanliness also excellent. Only drawback no air conditionning it was over 40 whilst we were there and too hot to sleep at night.
Restaurants and bars all great, the euro though has made everywhere quite expensive, watch out for brand drinks WKD, Breezers etc. can be quite pricey. Apart from a 24 hour flight cancellation Friday 6th June all in all a brilliant holiday !
We stopped at the Mavrikos Hotel between the 02-16 June. Its situated at the top of a small hill (which we nick-named 'heart-attack hill' cause of the steepness at the top, but by the end of the holiday it was a doddle!!! The rooms were basic but clean and very presentable! The fridges (21 Euros a week) and air-conditioning (30 Euros a week) are available for hire, there are also hairdryers and travel irons available for loan at the reception desk. The staff are superb! Jean is the hotels' liasion officer and works behind the bar in the day. Phil, John and Peter do the nights and put Tom Cruise to shame!!! Facilities for the children are basic, the park is suitable for children under 5 and they have their own pool. Our daughter is 11 years old and apart from swimming, feeding the kittens and Kids Club, she did whinge about being bored on a few occasions. Beeca, Jo and Sarah are the Thompson Kids Club Reps and the are totally nuts, some of the things they get up to, made me want to join in!! Thompson do a 'Kids Club Trip' to Plakka Beach and it is well worth going. You can walk about a mile into the sea and it doesnt go above your waist. Marianne and John (the owners) are at the Hotel from first thing in the morning till last thing at night and if you have a problem they are there to help and are really friendly. Laurie, your Rep is absolutely fantasic, if you have a problem she will do her best to sort it for you. The food and drink at the Hotel Bar is a little bit more expensive than outside, and we were recommended Popeye's Bar, as an excellent place to eat at. I didnt find it that friendly and preferred the Family Restaurant (Yiannis, Peter and Taz) make such a fuss of children. Another nice place to eat is the Athena Restaurant. Prices for eating out do vary and we found that it would cost us between 25 & 40 Euros for a 3 course evening meal at the above places. Half way down the hill from the hotel is Graces Bar, it opened on 1st May 2003 and is run by Mick and Bella, they do a fabulous full English Breakfast for 5 Euro's. Two places I didnt enjoy eating at and wouldnt recommend was Calypso Restaurant and Pieros, where 'Kids Eat Free' between 6 - 8pm, and we found it a rip off as it didnt include drinks or ice-cream and I spoke to a few parents who said exactly the same. Trips with Thompson are a bit more expensive than outside and is really worth shopping around for alternatives. While we were there, they had a mini heatwave, the weather didnt go below 43C - it was fabulous. If like us you have never been to the Mavrikos before, you will come away definately wanting to go back like we plan to.
Just got back from our 4th stay at the Mavrikos. As usual staff brilliant especialy Jean. Hotel clean sheets and towels changed regularly and any problems sorted out straight away.Anyone who has been before and the depth of pool put them off it has been made shallower so is much safer.
i am going to mavrikos on the 27 june i was wondering if any kids/teens are going then as i am 13 and my brother is 17 and we dont want to be bored p.s is it a good family place!!!!
I stayed at the Mavrikos from the 12 May 2003 for a week with my daughter and 6 year old grandson we had a brillant time the owners John and Marieanne were really helpful to all. The room was basement but was really cool at night which was nice as it was very hot there. The swimming pool has been made shallower so is only about 6ft in the deep end the pool was cleaned every night as was the kids pool. The bar food is nice, generous portions. The bar staff Jean,John and Phil who are all from England were fab.Kids club was also very good did lots with the kids kept them well entertained. The hotel rep Laurie was wonderfull with everybody very kind could,nt have wished for better.Plenty of Restaurants, shops and a very clean beach what more could you ask for.We will be back next year!
i stayed at the mavrikos from the 16th of may for a week. it was great! i was on my own and found thhat te hhhhhreps hanhd hhhthe hotel staff looked after me brilliantly. the room was great and the self catering equipment was all that i needed. it was a basement room, but this made all the better as it was cooler to sleep in of a night. i really can't see what the problem with the pool is, unless it has been rebuilt in the last year. the pool at the deep end is only about 1.43 (5foot) deep. there is even a childrens pool here, but surely the kids are supposed to be sup**vised at all times?
the hotel is only a short walk from the beach and you pass many shops, bars, tour shops and car hire places on the way down. the best bar i found was grace's bar run by mick and bella (ably assisted by nephew will), which is halfway down the hill from the hotel. here are some ex pats who know how to serve breakfast and pull a good pint!!!but anyway a big thanks to the hotel staff and the holiday rep laurie for a fantastic time.
I stopped at The Mavrikos 2 years ago as a single parent with a 4 year old son and found it very good and would recommend anyone to go there. There are a lot of comments about the swimming pool but there is a kids pool which is fantastic, and the kids club is really great. Also it is up a hill but this is only about 200 metres so is not that bad. It is the other end of town to Popeyes.
There is a small family church behind the aparthotel which is very beautiful but from what I can remember the family does not allow it to be used publicly for weddings.
ive been told there is a church at this hotel,as im looking for somewere to get married.has anyone seen it and what is it like.
I LOVED MAVRIKOS...IT WAS BRILLIANT,THE POOL WAS BRILLIANT, FOOD WAS BRILLIANT EVERYTHING WAS JUST GREAT!!ILL BE BACK!!
as you walk out of the mavrikos hotel you will see at leats two car rental places with such good cars and very cheap prices there are tones about but the best one is at the bottom of the road outside the mavrikos hotel!!1
I will be staying at Mavrikos next year. I would like to know if there are any good car rental companies nearby. Or can anyone recomend one?
As a single parent travelling abroad for the 1st time with my 3 yr old, I thought Mavrikos was great. Clean, simple and near to everything. There was even a scottish bar-man! The kiddies pool was good, not too deep. There were also some great places to eat. Some of the comments here arent too good, but I would say the hotel was better than a lot that I saw when we were there!
Stayed 19.07.02 to 02.08.02. The best thing about this hotel is the staff. Jean behind the pool bar is lovely. Food expensive but drinks about the same - great club sandwich ! Pool has no shallow end so not good if you have young children, however there is a great kiddies pool which is a sun trap during the day. There is a steep hill up to the hotel - not good for the elderly, infirm or buggies. Kids reps. are very good. We stayed in a two bed apartment which was very spacious. Didn't fancy the hotel rooms much - small and you had to pay for the fridge and air con. No much in the way of evening entertainment - bingo and quizzes. John Mavrikos is very territorial - stomps around at night with a flashlight checking the drains - and isn't too keen on the local 'wild' kittens. Would go again if we could pay about half the price.
The Mavrikos is O.K. it is clean, has friendly staff and a regular and an efficient maid service. The breakfasts have much more choice than the basic continental but not quite full'English'. But...the main pool is only suitable for VERY good swimmers as it gets deep very quickly at BOTH sides of the pool and is thus 'crammed' at the 'shallow' end. The hotel is minutes from the village but is on a extremely steep and testing hill.Drinks cost slightly more than outside but food costs at least twice as much! I recommend you lunch at the Calypso (Baked potatoes, burgers)and have dinner at Forentinos ( Puigi, Cod fried in beer batter, Stuffed mushrooms or tomatoes and more!) Paid 'acts' are rare and the entertainment is often quizes for which entry is free and the prizes are VERY generous. Unfortunately, the quiz is usually 40 questions on pop music which isn't to everyones taste. The hotel is also party to the Tsilvi exchange rate cartel where you are offered the same exchange rate everywhere and this is less than in the U.K. The electricity switches off when you leave your room which nullifies some mosquitoe detterents. The clientelle is mainly families.
This was our first visit to Tsilivi, Zante. The hotel wasnt completely to uor expectations, but it is a holiday, so u cant complain. The hotel staff were very nice, and they do the best chips with cheese. we had a good holiday and we will visit Zante again!!
This is the 3rd year we have stayed at the Mavrikos and it is as good as ever. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The owners John and Marianna Mavrikos are always there to help out with any problems. The reps are excellent especially the ones who run the kids club. The food and service at the poolbar are excellent. We have already booked for next June so look forward to meeting old friends
We stayed for two weeks in May with our two kids (4 and 11 months respectively) and really enjoyed the holiday - the kids pool is FANTASTIC, very shallow and perfect to let the kids play whilst you sunbathe with a nice cool beer! We didn't spend much time around the main pool as we had the kids, but it seemed very clean and well used by everyone - there is also a tots pool as part of the main pool. The Hotel food was lovely, generous portions, perhaps a little more expensive than the resort tavernas (as are the drinks). Our room was lovely, with a panoramic view of the town and the sea. The room was cleaned everyday thouroughly bar Sundays, there were a few ants from time to time (how they get up to the 2nd floor I'll never know...) but no prob with mosquitoes when we were there. Breakfast was nice, ham and eggs, cereal, toast, fresh fruit, orange juice, tea coffee, boiled eggs etc. - more than you might expect here. Staff were very helpful, friendly and polite. The hotel shop was useful with plenty of water, drinks, snacks etc. Entertainment was OK - it started a bit late for us (10 pm) but they tried hard. Air conditioning is available but costs more (about 30 euros) - we didn't use this. Location is very good - just a two minute walk downhill to the town, 10 mins walk down the main road to the beach - beack a bit "shingly" in places, but plenty of golden sand and the sea is warm, slopes gently to the sea, perfect for kids and us alike! Amusing fuit sellers on the beach (Fruit Sala! Fruit sala! Tutti-frutti delicia fresh donut! etc.) Island tours are very good - I recommend "Smile tours" located towards the beach - English guy runs it and he was very nice, helpful and great prices on tours (we booked 2 - boat tour (was OK but nothing special really) and island coach tour (FANTASTIC - DO THIS ONE IF NOTHING ELSE, JUST 15 euros and well worth it!!!). A great holiday, beautiful island, warm friendly people, great for kids and families, both relaxing and fun-filled in equal measure. I will definately re-book at the Mavrikos in a couple of years time, when we plan to revisit Zante.
the first room we were shown had a dead bird on the balcony, with maggots all over it, we later found out another couple had been shown this room three days beforehand and it still wasnt cleaned up. The second room had no bed for my son so we we were shown a self catering semi basement studio. This was okay but smelt of damp because it had been closed all season, but we could not put our clothes in any of the drawers because of the smell!! but on the Tuesday we woke only to be covered head to toe in Ants(one of those things which cant be helped) but the dead ants then lay on the floor for 4/5 days, it was only when we informed the Rep we had video evidence that something was eventually done about it.
Stayed here in early May 2002. The hotel is a quiet family-type of accomodation with friendly staff with good english spoken by all the Greek staff with British staff in the bars so no probs ordering what you need. The only problem we found with having two small kids (6 & 8) - was the pool was far too deep, in the shallow end you only have to step out a couple of yards and it's over your head with a very steep gradient down to the deep end where it's 10-12ft deep (why, I don't know, because there are "No Diving" signs all round the pool!). As a result we spent the entire holiday in another hotel's pool down in Tsilivi itself, only about 3-4 mins walk but meant we had to take all the inflatables etc with us which was a bit of a pain and might be worth a consideration if you too have small kids! Apart from that it was a nice friendly place to stay with the night entertainment being along the lines of a quiz and bingo etc. We found the island beautiful - you must hire a car or scooter to get around to appreciate what everyone says about it - but as we usually go to Spain or the islands, where they really cater for kids' entertainment, we found it was hard work keeping our two amused as they just don't seem to do enough fo keep the kids entertained at night and found we had to take colouring books and Gameboys out at night for them! We would return here as it's so lovely......but not with the kids!
We've booked 2 weeks at the Mavrikos in August. Where is it located exactly (say in relation to Popeyes)? Also what are the chances of an air conditioned room?
been to tsilivi many times and always wanted to stay here. so last year we did and had a great time. everything spot on.big drawback for this year is we booked this years holiday before we went last year, still tsilivi though. we will just use the pool and poolbar. the owners john and mariana are very friendly , they always have time to speak to you . anyway MAVRIKOS see you soon (july 2002)
well it was my first time abroad nd it made me want 2 return, so im going back in october. john the owner was great, so was jean, tina nd simon when he was there. i loved it.
stayed at the mavrikos this year. great for the kids. quiet location but can be noisy if your room
Booked the family in to stay at the Mavrikos apartments next year (2002). Any additional info on the above would be much appreciated...
We went in 1999 and tried for last year but couldn't get in. We are going on 28th September 2001 and can't wait. We take our 7year old grandaughter with us and it is ideal for all of us. The Mavrikos is excellant, it is a perfect holiday.
we have been to Tsilivi 4 times , each time stopping at the mavrikos . great hotel , all the staff are very friendly and the owners john & marianna will do anything to help you , whatever the problem . if you have kids this is the hotel 4 u .
Family Hotel. Bar & Pool Staff great.
