I did'nt like it, it was dirty - just clean away the old fag buts and im sure it would be a nice beach, thats all that lets it down realy - the water is shallow for ages it was lovely and the little fish swim around your feet.......I want to go back :o(
i didnt like it that much, you had to park on the beach, other wise it was ok
Lots of toight looking Greeks in Speedos - I say no more. The first day we arrived to see a car on the beach, not just on the beach but half in the sea! Beach is ok though, everyone makes out its better than it actually is though. Be warned of the crazy lady on the turtle boat - hello small boat, u have passed the pedalo limit, please go back else I will call the water police!!!
any one know an address for the borsalino stayed there six years ago love to go back i know yannis the owner and his brother angelo from my stay there great place great holiday
Any Beach that let's cars park on it in the evening and during the night has do put down a peg or two. The beach is nice and clean and does have nice surroundings but people of Zante... STOP LETTING CARS PARK ON THE BEACH. Okay it's handy as a road in the evening but TOUGH! Go the long way round and let the beach be a beach and not the M8 (the M8 is a big road between Glasgow and Edinburgh). Cheers!
Plenty of beach bars and sunbeds. Good sand, sloping gently into the sea. Safe for kids, fun for adults
Laganas beach was better than I expected, particularly if you head left at the bottom, towards Kalamaki, and walk 200 yards. Good for beach games, and safe for kids to swim. Quite a few dog-ends lying around, and some broken glass, but at least there are hundreds of sunbeds, so even in August you should be able to find some that are available. Cost around 7 euros for 2 beds + shade for the day. Lots of beach bars, and the sand is good for building castles etc.
Laganus is a brill a place for kids, we have 3 girls aged 14, 12, 8, and they cried when we had to come home! We stayed at the Anastasia Hotel, half board which was very clean, friendly, and an ideal location for everything. Laganus town centre was pumping at night but with only a 15 minute walk it was not to close to disturb you, and a 15 minute walk the other way was Kalamaki, which is very quite. We went into Zante town by taxi, which took 10 minutes, mind those Greek drivers there mad! We went on a coach tour which the girls also enjoyed, even the wine tasting! Saw the ship wreck, blue caves, and done some shopping, good value. We hired a speed boat £45.00 for the day, from jimmys, which is on the beach outside anastasia hotel, we went over to turtle island, suba gear is a must, and don't forget the under water camera. One thing I wish I had done was to go to Athens/olympia as they do trips for the weekend £50 per adult, but we had already paid for half board. We went with Goldern sun which was a nightmare, first our flight times were changed, then our flight tickets were late, we had to pick them up from the airport, and then when we stepped of the plane, we were told by the rep that we had to go in another hotel as the anastasia had been over booked, we ended up in a very basic hotel with nothing we paid for ie. air con, fridge, safe, we were told by the anastasia we could catch a taxi, from that hotel for breakfast and dinner. We then got ready for dinner when we arrived, went to reception to book a taxi, and were told to walk it was not far, after a twenty minute walk with three tired kids was no fun! The first week did not feel like a relaxing holiday, it was more like a hiking holiday! And more to the point not what we had paid for.
Great beach, many hunks =) If you lay near the volleyball-net you might spot som egood looking boys =) Nice wather, a little dirty though. But a nice beach!
Our Direct holidays rep at the Oscar aparthotel told us that Laganas beach was a dump and that we should go to kalamaki instead! We went to see for ourselves and she couldn't be more wrong. Laganas beach is great, it has plenty of pedallos and speed boats to hire (no speed boats at kalamaki) and loads of bars, shops and cafes on hand. We only went to kalamaki one day and spent the rest at laganas.
try the beach beside cheers great for drinks and snacks my lovely man and i spend hours sunning ourselves here much more fun than swimming pools
Nice beach, but at certain times the beach turns into a road!!!
The Beach is ok but be warned it turns into a road at nite. If you want to find a quiet spot with beter sand then head to the beach where the turtles lay the eggs (only 10 mins walk) Hiring a speed boat for the day is the best way to see the bay and visit turtle island (not renound for the amount of turtles there but because it looks like a turtle) If you want to see any turtles when in your own boat then look out for the proper turtle spotting boats, when you see them in a group thats whe you know there are turtles about, follow the boats around for a bit to see a turtle.
the beach is ok the one section cars go on but the one side its closed to traffic. the sea is greatand safe.
Well a group of 6 of us had an interesting time down at the beach! 1stly 2 of us fell asleep on lilo's and drifted pretty far out! (thats the 1st tip, dont fall asleep!) And secondly when taking a "speed" boat out dont get far out and put the life ring in the water and use it to do dounuts! Cause they soon find out, and then u have abit of explaining to do tho the local authorities! But apart from that nice place!
The beach is very nice and there is a charming small island via a wooden bridge 20 minutes walk to the right from the main road.
The beach becomes the main road after 7pm, so beware. Very busy around Laganas central stretch during the day, but a stroll left or right for 10 mins, and you'll soon find a quieter area. The sea is warm and clear, and very safe for kids. We hired a pedalo for an hour late one afternoon and spotted 3 turtles (Caretta caretta) which was a real thrill. The next resort of Kalamaki can be reached by walking along the beach, approx 2km.
Excellent posing ppotential - esp if ya rent specfic sunbeds off our friend George at Giannis!! Sea was clear with lil fish - which isnt a good thing as they scare me!!! EEK!! Cars do drive up it at night which is a bit off puttin...esp when ya stumbling home!
The water's lovely, lots of little fish swimming round your feet, but the beach is dirty, lots of fag ends and not very big(only about 6 meters wide). Cars also park on the sand which is off putting.
I am looking for 3 or more girls aged 20-35 who are going on holiday to Zante between now and the middle of August for a TV documentary. If you fit the bill and are going on holiday in the next month, or if you know anyone who is, then please email Sarah at films@zkktv.com or ring me on 0207 482 5885.
We only came here to hire a pedalo for the purpose of turtle searching! Last year we went on a boat and saw one turtle. This time, we went out to the shallow waters in a pedalo at 11.30am and were surrounded. I have never experienced anything like it...it is a very humbling experience. A pedalo costs 12 Euros for one hour and believe me it is worth every cent. We went back the following day with the camcorder and done it all again although this time it took a bit longer to sight the turtles as they were a bit further out. However we did again see around 5 of them.. same time.. late morning. As for the beach itself, it looked very busy with sunbeds and parasols crammed closely together and many people sunbathing next to where cars were parked right on the beach.
We stayed at the Zante Beach Hotel in June 2003 which is about the furthest point from the centre of Laganas (about 1 Km). We found the beach very clean and the sea very clear. We didn't experience many posers in this area but on the occasional walk along the beach to the centre it was more for the young at heart. Plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas at a cost, but you will need them by mid afternoon, very hot.
Turn left from the main road and keep walking until you get out of the bustle.Sea is clean with no weed. You can see the fishes and if you get lucky a turtle will have come close in enough for you to see without going out on a boat
sand was hard and coa**e, cigarette butts everywhere and the sea was full of plasters and tissue. hoped it might get better, but decided to stay by pool instead!
Just got back, beach very busy and crowded didn't stay there long. Took turtle boat ride, sadly disappointed though did see turtles.... advise take a pedalo and see them for yourself.
lagana beach like the resort is a jeykl and hyde place.turn right or left from the main street and it is busy in both directions but if you go left towards kalimaki it gets less congested until all other people are left behind.virtual solitude apart from the thin trail of humans walking between the two resorts.the beach is excellent for children just choose how busy or otherwise you require it.
This beach is great.. I have been going to Laganas now for 7 years and i can say that it is the best beach around, there may be a few fag butts around but tell me a beach where there aint any, there is easy acess to restaurents and shops which is great, I reccommend this beach to every one
The beach wasn't as bad as I expected. When you hit the beach from the main road head to the right walk along the beach along the cove its quieter and less litter. Nice supermarket and bars there is a bar right at the end which makes amazing cocktails!!! The glass bottom boat trips are ok but your better off getting a peddlow to see the turtles!!!
THIS BEACH IS OKAY FOR THE YOUNG, AND THE POSERS.VERY BUSY BEACH COMPARED WITH KALAMAKI.
Laganas beach.... can get a litle scummy... and a little crowded... Top tip... hire a motor boat £50 for 6 people and take a day on MARITHIONISI ISLAND. checkout my pics on my homepage. http://homepage.mac.com/paulmelville/ This island has the best beaches really clean and the water here is crystal clea and away from the hustle and bustle of the main public beaches. there are pedalo's for hire and many turtle trips... but if you can wait till about 5pm.. when the sun is still really warm and the sea comfortable.. just wade out up to waste / chest depth and the turtles are there for you to see... they are very shy.. and pregnant... so please don't bug or trouble them... and if you fancy a turtle ride beware... they can stick their heads out quite far and take a finger or two... just seen a sub below... MOSSIES... zakynthos like most countries does have a MOSSIE population nothing to get too worried about... but take precautions use a room plugin to keep your appartment clear and when you go out in the evenings use a MOSSIE REPELENT. I used BOOTS REPEL PLUS not one bite in two weeks. and just for peace of mind i sprayed a little around my doors and windows. keeps them away while your out and their not at your door waiting for you to get home from a night out... http://homepage.mac.com/paulmelville/ Any other info E-mail paulmelville@mac.com i'll be pleased to help if i can.
i would like to know if there is a pedlo/boat hire on laganas beach, owned by someone called nick, or a nick works there. it used to be one of the ones nearer turtle island
What is the situation with mosquito's
hi im going to laganas in may. staying at the cactus apartments. is anyone else going????/been in may??? are there lots of mosquitos- thats what ive been told
brilliant
What are the self-catering hotels like? And are there many insects around?!? argh!!!!! I would appreciate some feedback if anyone can help me out, cheers ps// Im going in August! yay!
Absolutely horrible beach, you couldn't walk 20 metres without someone trying to force you to hire a sunbed!!!!!!!! Fag buts, litter and burnt beached whales everywhere! We walked the length of it and never went back.
It could do with a regular clean, as cars do drive on at night time and needed raking sometime. It was great for easy reach of snacks and drinks, as snack bars backed onto the beach. Tsilivi beach was a bit nicer though.
Didn't like the beach at Laganas - sand was hard and the beach was packed with sunloungers (rows of 3). Its worth the walk to Kalamaki where it is quieter and the sand is better and you can watch the planes landing just over your head!
The beach is not one of the best on the Island but that is only to be expected in a busy club resort. In the evenings, vehicles have access which has caused the sand to be compressed. The sea is very shallow and clear. Don't bother to go on the turtle trips, waste of money. Hire a pedalo or better still a motor boat and go spotting for yourselves. You could then check out Marathonisi Island, which has a great beach facing Laganas and a secluded beach around the other side. Beware of Laganas beach at night....a few courting couples.....but great for skinny dipping...
Liked it very much beter if you walked out of the way of tavernas as it was not so crowded wish i was still there.
This was the worst beach, it is used by cars at night as a road so the sand is like concrete. One big ashtry, as all the bars and resutrants have loungers out front. Hire a car and visit some of the much better beaches on the island. The best place for snorkeling is Agios Sostis, go down to Lagana beach and walk right along the beach, walk over the wooden boardwalk and keep going you will see an island ahead (Agios Sostis) 20 min from Lagana road. there is a wooden bridge to cross over to it go up the steps and turn right then go down the steps to a secluded alcove a real sun trap. It is a man made stone beach and the entrance to the water is very rockey so you will need shoes to wear in the water. The fish you will see are absolutely amazing. Get there early as it is very popular.
laganas beach is the only beach i were on (it was really close to our hotel)me and my friends had a great time there...every day swimming in the salty sea..every night bading under the stars and the view is not so bad at sunrise either.have a lot of memories from that beach.and i hope i'll go back some day
Sun and water
great beach for night time activites.
this beech could be so much better than it is it needs cleaning on a regular basis not just around the sunbedsbut up to the waters edge as well
Laganas beach was safe for children because i got up to the third bouy and it wasn't up to knee yet and i am only 5ft. go turtle spotting it is great and i saw 3 turtles in total.
If you like your beaches crowded and to sit on top of everyone else you won't be disappointed with Laganas beach. However, if you are prepared to walk up the beach for 10 - 15 minutes, the scene changes somewhat and you can enjoy your own space. From what I saw of the busy bit, bearing in mind we didn't stay, it was too busy, too noisy, too many people selling trips, fruit salads, etc, & generally not very nice. There is far better all over the Island than this beach...
Spent every day there-some seriously beautiful guys around. And also some dodgy egyptians who thought my friend's mum was hiding her greek heritage from her-hi Ahmed!
Good holiday fun for all ages to go and have fun at the beach.
laganas it was the best the beach was out off this world the greeks lovely if i had any money i england laugh hate it go to greese
Laganas beach is nice as the sea is really clear but you find this anywhere on the island. The sand wasnt too good. I suggest going to Kalamaki which isnt far away. The best beach we went to was Alykes. It was gorgeous and there are good watersports available. We went parascending and saw a turtle from the air. Apparently there arent many turtles in Alykes so we were lucky. If ouy go on a boat trip around the island you see the best beaches, especially Smugglers cove and the sea here is amazing.
This beach was very busy in June, so I bet it is very crowded in busy months. It was not the cleanest beach i have been on either, fag butts everywhere and we found some used needles as well. We went out on the glass bottom boat, the turtles are out there and we saw at least 5. If you are out in the sea at around 2pm look out for the small boats, people were out on lielows near our boat and had a fab view of what we had paid £7 to see for nothing.
If you go here, you have to accept a brash strip of bars and shops, a lot of traffic pulled up to the beach, and a general air of over development. But the beach and shallow warm water are fantastic for young kids, and make up for the rest. Ten years ago it was probably paradise.
We found this beach too busy, crowded, packed with motorbikes, cycles etc whizzing past. There are rows and rows of sunbeds, the sand is hardpacked and has to be raked around the sunbeds, not a very relaxing beach really.
Cars, scooters and buses along the beach are not what I expected. On my last visit to Laganas (1994) the beach was gorgeous, Only spent an hour there during our two weeks. Cigarette butts and empty bottles all along the back of the beach!!
The first time I saw this beach it took my breath away. It is in a spectacular setting. The water is crystal clear and you can walk unbelieveably far out before you you would go underwater. They do have paddle boats they rent. What I loved best was getting on a plastic raft and just floating away. The beach is so huge that it never felt crowded to me, even if there were hundreds of people in the water. Frankly, I liked that they didn't have the motorized jet skis as I think it would have not only taken something away from that beautiful beach but it would not be as safe for swimmers or people snorkeling.
Vicki - There are no watersports on Laganas / Kalamaki beach due to the protection of the loggerhead turtles. Watersports are around the corner in Agios Sostis, or in the resorts of Alikes, Tsilivi, Argassi and at St.Nikolas beach in Vassilikos.
Are there much watersport facilities at Laganas beach?
Its a lovely beach! The sand is very clean and the sea is gorgeous and quite warm with some little white fish in. The resteraunts on the beach are very good especially Yiangos and Vezal which isnt on this page. If you hire a sunbed for the day from the nice people at Yiangos then you will be a lot more comfortable than if you lie in the floor.
We was feeling that this is too many people here. We say the water is not too clean for going into. It was good for the childrens playing but too many childrens playing make my ears go wheeeeeee. Many people who have eaten too much are wearing too small clothes for the beach, it makes my eyes feel sad.
this beach is huge, nice clean sea, boats to hire and if your lucky you'll see a huge dark shape beneath you which'll turn out to be a turtle - it was massive - some quality birds about too
Can anyone tell me what this beach is like, and do they have Banana Boats and peddle boats?
