Alykanas Beach

Beaches in Zante

Paul M

Hi Lindsay - I have been travelling to Alikanas with Kosmar since 1996, they are a good company and offer the usual type of tours - Island tour etc. Their accomodation is also of a good overall standard. You can also do a tour of the island with Zakfari - as usual there are operators in the area too and they pick up at central points etc. Hope that you have a fab time. Paul M & Family.

Hello everyone,
My boyfriend and I are thinking about coming to stay in Alikes or Alikanas in September, possibly with kosmar. Has anyone been to zante with kosmar and if so what excursions do they offer?
Any other useful info or tips on where to stay and what to do would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Denise H

We have been to Alikans twice - once in 1990 and once in 1998.

In 1990 we stayed at the Valais Hotel near to the beach. This is a very nice hotel with an excellent pool. We returned to Alikanas in 1998 and stayed at the Letsos Hotel. The hotel was okay but we preferred the Valais. The Valais does excellent food at the pool bar.

The beach is very nice and the resort in all is excellent. There are busy bars and smaller bars to be found in the back streets. Old Alikanas is a find and can be found by turning left at Busters bar on the main road and follow the road for about a mile. There is an excellent restaurant (the blue or green something) on the beach.

All in all a good holiday.

hiya,we are staying at the White House Studios in Alikanas just wondered if anyone has been there and what it was like. Where are the best bars on the night to go to and for eating.
Cheers Happy Hols

Hi, I'm going to Alykanas this June with my Boyfriend (hopefully, if it's not cancelled because of the war!). We are staying in the Valais Hotel and I just wanted some feedback from anyone who has stayed there. Do we need to bring anything with us or are the rooms well equipped?

Thanks, I'd be delighted to get any info on the Hotel or the area in general.

Trish.

Bike hire is really cheap, unfortunately can't remember how much and yes, Amoudi is walking distance from Alikanas.

Bernie M

How much is bicycle hire and is it possible to walk to Amoudi? Thanks

Sonia C

Old Alikanas is quiet with 2 small sandy beaches. There are a couple of tavernas, a bar (maybe!) but you are within walking distance of both Amoudi and Alikanas where there are more bars and restaurants. I'm sure you'll love it. If you require any further info, please feel free to e-mail me.

We will be coming to zante at the beginning of July travelling with Direct Greece & staying at Villa Thea, this is apparently almost on the beach in Old Alykanas does anyone have any info about this area we are hoping that it is quiet with a sandy beach can anyone help?

Ivo W

SUPER !!!

Rachel S

The Beach was amazing!! So shallow you could walk out for miles and still touch the bottom. It was warm and clear, you could see the little fish swimming round your feet. Watersports were available though they were a little bit expensive. Has a sandy beach with loads sunbeds to choose from, though be careful, the prices for sunbeds do range dramatically, depending on who owns them. The cheepest we found were about 5 Euros for a day. Great beach for relaxing and watching the day go by!

Julie D

Very long and sandy, bucket and spade territory.Safe swimming and clear water....fish in abundance. Couple of good tavernas on beach.

Guido +

Me and the misses got back on Sunday, We hired a car for three days we spent two of those days just driving to Alikanas it was beautiful. The water was perfet the beech was clean and there is a great walk that you can take along Alikanas beech over to Alkeys beech about 25 min walk that is very relaxing. Great place to go.

Hi staying at Alikanas Beach hotel at end Of October. Any tips on what to take. Are the apprtments well equipped. Are there blankets for when it gets chilly at night. Should I take euro or sterling travellers cheques. Are the swiiming pools warm

M&j W

The main beach at Alykanas is a long, sandy curve around part of the bay. Very good, and lots of sunbeds. We also walked along to the old Alykanas Beach (near the Shoestring Restaurant) on two days, which though much smaller, was very pleasant. Lovely to sit in Shoestrings and lookout over the sea eating lunch or having a drink.

Jodie S

excellent, really nice sand, sea and it was shallow for miles, it was gorg

Steven

I agree with Rachel, Alikanas beach is THE BEACH and the swimming well..No.1 in Zakynthos. The waters are calm, clean and clear.Tips:- Hire mopeds and head up toward the blue caves there are some fantastic beaches Ride all the way to the penninsula,You will love it....take a camara.

Rachel B

what was I thinking forget them comments below. the beach was the best in all of ZANTE

Diana S

It is not near Algassi unless you Taxi it or have a hire car.... as the previous writer said, its about 40 mins but not 40 mins walk!

Rachel B

about 40 mins

Zoe B

How far is this beach from argassi town?

Diana S

there are watersports avaliable from alikanas beach. you can hire pedalo's, one and two man canoes, jet ski's and body boards. the beach is narrow - nice golden sand but just a narrow strip which widens here and there. ranges from about two metres wide to five metres wide. there are sun longers (comfy) and umbrellas all along the beach but you have to pay for them. it ranges from 5 euors per pair (inclu. brolly) to 8 euors depanding where you sit on the beach. its often good to buy drinks from a cafe then you can use their loungers and they generally are 3 - 5 euro's. round the watersports hire hut is most expensive we found. sea is wonderful. very shallow for absolutely ages then drops very gently. the beach is a distant pinp***k before the average person can't touch the bottom. water is warm and very very clean. wind gets up later in the faternoons generally and the sea gets rougher about 3.30 onwards. purrsome@aol.com

Can anyone tell me if there are of watersports and diving available on Alikanas?

I'm staying in the Nikos apartments in Alykes and I just found out that my friend is staying in a place called Tsilivi! We want to meet up and I was just wondering if anybody knows how far away they are from each other?

Heather G

You will not find any turtles along the East coast ie Alykanas or Alykes. The National Marine Park lies along Laganas bay where the turtles come back year after year to lay their eggs. Hire a pedalo in Laganas and you will find your turtles. The beach at Gerakas is the most beautiful on the island and is at the point of the Vassilikos peninsula. There are no speed boats or water sports anywhere along this part of the bay because of the danger to the turtles and whereever you see the little cages is where the eggs are buried. There is a watch-point which is manned by Marine Park volunteers and they are very informative. Out on the bay at Laganas towards Marathonisi Island you will see the glass bottomed boats and pedalos..personally go for the pedalo and find your own turtle..it is a sight you will remember for the rest of your life.

JUST GOT BACK AND YET AGAIN CANNOT FAULT THIS BEACH IN ALIKANAS. WE VENTURED A LITTLE FURTHER ALONG THIS TIME TO THE BIT OPPOSITE THE NERAIDA WHERE WE FOUND CHEAPER SUNBEDS THAN MENTIONED BELOW (5 EUROS) AND WAS SIMPLY PARADISE. BRING ON JUNE 15 2003 WHEN WE WILL BE BACK.

Ann M

Alikanas beach very sandy - extremely hot to bare feet! We used our own umbrella and beach mats but there were plenty of sunbeds/umbrellas to hire (about 8 Euros for a couple) The sea is really warm and crystal clear ( one day we were watching the hermit crabs and trying to avoid standing on them!) The sea is very safe for non-swimmers as it is shallow and you can walk out for ages and still only waist deep.

Phil M

we were at alikanas in may and am sorry to say no turtles and no pedalos.maybe it was because it was the start of the season and it was very quite the next beach along is called alykes and is about a 10 minute walk and was alot more busy so i think you would find pedalos there.Everyone was going on boat trips to see the turtles but i cannot recall where they went .

Helen H

Hi, me and my family are going to Zante on the 21st of July for two weeks. I,m 14 and my sis is 11, we hope to meet new friends. Also, I've heard that their are many turtles and is it true that if you get a pedalo out that the turtles will swim up to you? Is this the correct beach or is it another? Thanx

Phil M

We arrived back on the 19th may 2002 can only agree with the last entry beautiful beach our children loved it we also used the neraida restaurant every night. Downside to the beach is there is no shade and limited umbrella's available.

Paula W

Arrived back from Alikanas 14th May. The Alykanas Beach Village was nearing completion. It looked as if the studio's would be ready, and the pool too, but not the garden areas. It is positioned as the brochure describes, 'on the beach.' It's very big. I couldn't guess how many studios the complex boasts. The beach is safe and sandy, there is litter around, i'd just pick it up and put it in a bag if it's an eyesore. The sea is wonderful. It's the best family beach i've ever visited. Do try the Neraida Restraunt. The staff are warm and friendly and funny, and very generous! The food is superb and there's such a good choice. They don't charge restraunt prices. Children are fussed over and welcomed, not tolerated. The bar next door is owned by a cousin, and that's good too for snacks at luch time perhaps. We heard that mozzies were a problem, but didn't find it so in May. There were barking dogs, and noisy motorbikes, but the whole atmosphere is so relaxed and friendly, that it really didn't seem a problem. Nothing did. We did see a couple of rats outside the Greedy Greek in town! Apparently there aren't enough cats to keep them down! Even that didn't freak us. (Surprisingly.) This was THE most relaxing holiday we have ever had. Greece at it's very very best. Such a beautiful Island too. Enjoy!

Angie

I love this beach....and the resort of Alikanas! I've coming here for 11 years and its home from home for me. The beach is ideal for children, and the sea is very shallow and also a great place to get a fab tan! There's some nice places to eat,try the Mill Bar, lovely pasta salad!!! "Yammas"!!

Lucy

This is one of the best beaches around! It's ideal for children as the sea stays shallow for quite a way out and is very warm.Watch out for the little fishes, nice with salt 'n' vinegar!! There's plently of places to eat and drink along the seafront - try the Mill Bar!! The beach does tend to be busy around August time, as Greeks come here for their hols.

Rachel B

We are going to Alikanas with our two toddlers (2yr & 4ys) in July 2002 staying at the. Where is good to eat with Children????

Alan J

We will be going back to Alikanas for a third time in July. The beach is very good and safe for the kids as you can go out a long way before it starts to get deep. Eating out is excellent, but nightlife is low-key.

Keith H

We are visiting Alikanas, Zante in JULY 2002 for two weeks. We are staying in the Elpiniki studios, if anyone has any information on Alikanas or these studios please email me as i would be very grateful. Thank you

Bob

We Loved it!!

Carly C

Joanna & Nicola These apartments are on the best part of the beach in Alykanas. When I was last there in October they were still being built but had progressed quite well since August. If you would like any further info please feel free to e-mail me on soniachambers@aol.com

Nicola D

I am also travelling to the same resort in August and would like to hear any comments. I have not been able to find any information regarding it.

Joanna C

I am travelling to alykanas beach village in august 2001 with my 2 children. They are new apartments and I can not find any imformation on them. If you have seen these apartments please could you write and tell me. I would also like to know anything about Alykanas and I would rather know the truth. Thank you

Michael

"Don't miss the pretty little beach at Xohoriati by the old village of Alikanas, just below the Shoestring" We had a hard job finding this place, and when we got there it was nothing special, the food at shoestring was really good though.

Chloe P

This little beach is just the best. All the locals are really frendly, especially in the mini market run by denis, andreka and their 2 kids nicos + mary. It is a traditional sand beach and really small and selective beach all year round!

David

The most beautiful and uncrowded beach I have ever been to. Nicely positioned away from the main town but with a good supply of shops and tavernas nearby if you need something to eat or drink. The sea is clear, warm and safe, the sand soft and white and the full day you get on 2 sunbeds with an umbrella is well worth the 3000 drachma you have to pay for it. We stayed for hours and hours upon end. The people who run the shop next to Neraida restaurant are really really friendly as well and really show there appreciation if you attempt to speak a little Greek with them. We'd definitely recommend this beach to anyone looking for a quiet, uninterrupted, hassle free day in the lovely sun.

Sian F

Great beach! Is really nice the water is warm and you have no fear of going to far as the water is not very deep!

Mal W

This beach is a secret !! Don,t tell everyone !! The snorkling is good too.

John H

It's worth a walk to Costa's beach. Quiet and close to the bar!

Simon W

Don't miss the pretty little beach at Xohoriati by the old village of Alikanas, just below the Shoestring - it's not as spoilt as the bigger beach nearer Alikes. When you're there, visit the friendly mini market run by Denis and Andrika Marinos.

Sonia K

Lovely beach- breezy after 3pm. Sea- can walk out forever without getting naughty bits wet- therefore great for kids.Lots of little fish and hermit crabs.

Phil K

Fine white sand, sunbeds already laid out in position, uncrowded, nice & clean, shallow water, pedaloes & canoes available. Close to bars & facilities.

Sonia C

Never seen the beach crowded and I've been many times, May and July. Very relaxing.
