Filoxenia Aparthotel

Accommodation in Tsilivi

Kevin M

Hi I'm heading to Filoxenia for 2 weeks on the 13th of August 2005. Can anyone please advise me on a rough idea of what I should expect to pay for a few things like beer in a bar compared to beer in the supermarkets? Also if possible please advise me on eating out prices.

Also what temperature should I expect for Aug?

All help greatly appreciated Kevin.

Nikki

just to be helpful - the taxi from the airport is between 10 and 15 euros; the walk to tsilivi town takes about 12 minutes and the beach is about 15 minutes walk away. Take earplugs cos the cockerel is noisy and maybe a denim jacket for the evenings at the beginning and end of the season. The food onsite is ok but for the price you may as well eat in town. Go to Linos bar for the best cocktails - Sandra's is ok but the lady herself is a bit scary! there are not too many cats but there are stray dogs - if the black dog is still at filoxenia could you all please feed her? It broke my heart leaving her behind. Hope this helps.

The cleanest / best maid service of any Med package holiday hotel I've ever stayed in. New towels and bedding every other day, cleaned every day. A bit of a trek into Tsilivi (15mins to centre, half hour to beach at an easy walking pace) There are two buildings and our apartment was within the main unit including the bar which did make it a bit noisy in the evening and into the night. However, overall superb and I'd recommend it to anyone - especially families.

I am arriving in Zante in the beginning of July with a friend and staying at the Filoxenia Apartments. Could someone please advise us on how long it would take for us to get to Laganas in a taxi and how much it would cost.

Ashleigh C

We stayed at filoxenia for two weeks at the beginning of the season and had the best holiday ever. The hotel is clean, pools are just right - kids tend to stick to one pool - and the service fantastic! A lot of people seem to hate the cockerel but it didn't bother me at all - the irish people arguing direclty above is a different matter.... If you do stay here make sure you go for a drink at Linos cafe bar. Its just along the road past Sandra's (v scary lady), the cocktails are nicer and cheaper and the manager makes so much effort - plus old Speiros next door will make you a fresh souvlaki to go with your cocktails if you ask. Fantastic hotel, wonderful restaurants (especially valentina's castle), great bars (tell george hi from ashleigh if you go to linos), and tsilivi is just perfect for a quiet holiday. Don't be ripped off by the all day boat cruise though, take your own food!

Fred B

Just back from Zante 28/5/05 after one week holiday for two. First impressions of apartments very good, clean accommodation on the outskirts of Tsilivi and only 20mins from airport (new terminal looks to be nearly ready, tarmac laying the parking outside at present)

Thought we'd got a good deal of free upgrade from studio to two bedroom apartment. (previous studio on corfu very small) Two bedroom first floor apartment consisted of walk in kitchen (microwave, hob, sink, table, chairs, large wardrobe and tv) with bathroom off (including bath and shower curtain to powerful shower attachment) and two large bedrooms with a double plus wardrobe in one and three singles in the other with dressing table, suitcase stand, stool, chair and bedside lockers in each, and a large 3.5x7m balcony accessible from both bedrooms. Also had mini safe and air con unit fitted, extra charge for usage. Unfortunately it was located right above the reception area and bar, and opposite the lift and stairs, consequently was the noisiest location on the complex last thing at night and first thing in the morning. Added to that there was a large flock of continuosly squawking sparrows nesting in the roofs over the appartments. The nearby cockerel needs a new alarm clock as he usually commenced crowing at about 2-30am setting off the local dogs wanting to get in on the act. The apartments are set out in a double complex , each around a seperate deck pool located at a sharp 90 degree bend in the road about 2Km from the main resort. The local drivers and moped riders use it for grand prix practice at all hours of the day and night. Being on the airport flightpath wasn't noticable given the above. So much for a quiet peaceful holiday!

However, the staff are friendly, all speaking English. The pools are clean with plenty of sun loungers and parasols. Bath towel and hand towel per person changed every day. We didn't avail of the onsite barfood, prefering to self cater for breakfast and eat out during the rest of the day. There is also an attached minimarket.

Pre booked car by internet from EuroAlfa in Tsilivi, good friendly service. Aircon packed up other side of island but switch replaced by Euroalfa within five minutes got us back on the road. Toured all round island over four days, visiting Zakinthos town, Keri, Garakas beach (loggerhead turtles) Navagio beach (wreck) etc.. found some out of the way restaurants with great views and tasty greek food and local wine. Also some mediocre restaurants serving pretty basic food, but all with friendly staff. This time of year at the begining of the season its still fairly quiet and with so many restaurants and tavernas located side by side throughout Tsilivi the competition from next door neighbours must be sharp, yet no one seemed too pushy for your custom, not like Peurto Rico on Gran Canaria last year.

Weather was ok, mid to high 20's during the day with occasional patchy cloud, but had rain on two days. Evenings, walking back from Tsilivi were noticably cooler when extra clothing was often in evidence. Other contributors who have visted Filoxenia over the past few years made adverse comments over the unsafe bends with no footpaths into Tsilivi. We didn't feel quite so threatened as the road was reasonably wide at the bends, although still no footpath. A section of footpath along the straight leading to the bends was in the process of being finished and there are other lengths of footpath along the route. We thought that the winding road through Tsilivi with breaks in the very narrow footpath was perhaps more dangerous as there was more traffic.

Overall, we liked the island and the people, and might visit again, but would look for alternative accommodation (avoid apartment 302), but only due to the noise aspect.

We are just back from a weeks stay at this Hotel.  It is a brilliant place to stay.  The apts were cleaned every day.  The pool are was lovely with plenty of sunbeds.  Traffic noise by the pool was a little annoying at times. The Staff were very friendly and helpful.  We are likely to return again next year.

Heidi C

Can anyone please tell me what you get in one of the two bedroom apartments. Do you have a lounge area and kitchen???? Thanks

Deborah F

Am in the process of booking week at Filoxenia Aparts' can anyone advise re access to the beach and what its' like when you get there? Thanks Deb

Finola F

Are there a lot of cats around these apartments and the general area of Tsilivi? I have been to Crete before and found there were a lot of cats there!

William N

My wife and I had a wonderful holiday at these appartments in october 2004. We would recommend this for couples who enjoy somthing a little quieter. We also recommend the calypso restaurant which is around 15 minute walk away. Excellent food and atmosphere to match.

Verena and Bill Nixon.

Lauren E

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Filoxenia for 2 weeks at the beginning of September and liked them alot. Our apartment was huge and cleaned every day, we were also very shocked to find a bath and a shower curtain!!! The snack bar and bar were good but we never really spent much time there. The distance into town wasn't too bad although it was sometimes quite scary especially when you met a bus on the corners!! The pool area was very clean. The only thing we weren't too keen on was that there was quite a lot of traffic noise. Our apartment was right above the main road so it was a bit of a pain when we were trying to get to sleep, but it wasn't a major issue. We found all the staff to be very friendly and polite - the man at reception carried my suitcase for me when we arrived.
I am a travel agent and will definately be reccommending the Filoxenia.

Pam

We stayed at the Filoxenia for two weeks at the beginning of september. The apartments are very clean. There are plenty of sunbeds around the pools. We didnt stay in the bar of an evening as the drinks were expensive, and the young girl that served you was very unpleasant the first week we were there, we think someone complained because the second week she tried very hard to be nice.

We stayed in studio 218 which was right next door to a farmhouse where the farmer kept chickens and a cockrel, and i must say we didnt have one full nights sleep (even with a few ouzo`s down us !!) the cockrel crowed all night long.

The walk into town was no problem, you just had to be careful going round suicide corner! We usually had a drink in Sandra`s bar on the way, they were very nice people.

We found the best restaurant was the Apollo opposite the Paradise bar, it had excellent food and service.

All in all we had a good holiday but probably wouldn`t stay here again unless the cockrel "disappeared"!!

Finbarr

Very relaxing place to stay with plenty of sunbeds. The snack bar is a little pricey for drinks but we bought ours in the shop and just drank them by the pool.
The bar is o.k. but also about a euro dearer per drink than any of the bars in town and it has entertainment only once a week.
The 2 bedroom apartments are just that - 2 bedrooms , no sitting room and just a small kitchen and bathroom.
I thought the price of a safe for 2 weeks (30 euros) was a bit of a rip off.

Christine B

We went to Tsilivi in July 2004, took my 21 year old and my 74 year old mother in law. We had a fantasitc time the staff were brilliant the rooms were levely and clean. I had read a previous comment about always being pleanty of sunbeds, and thought that the person couldn't have gone in the Summer, but yes there are plaenty of sunbeds to go round! The reception staff were brilliant Dimitris the manager was fantastice and Dennis also. Would recommend. A lovely relaxing holiday. Airport a nightmare on the flight out, but soon there will be a new terminal!!!

Michael C

Just got back from the filoxenia apartments and loved it.

Very quiet and very clean.

The snack bar food was lovely and the people friendly.
The bar is very quiet alright though so if you are looking for a wild spot this is not the place.

Plenty of sunbeds and lovely pools.

The walk into town is about 15 minutes with the first section of the walk pretty dangerous as there is no foot path.

The rooms are cleaned everyday.

If you are looking for a relaxing holiday this is the place to come if you are looking for a wild spot this is not the place for you as it seems mostly couples and families come here.

Do I need to take a travel plug for my hairdryer

Englishgurl L

no we didnt need bath towels ;)

Lisa&fiona Q

Just back after 2 weeks, had a brill time! Pool, accomadation and snack bar were excellent! The night bar could have been a bit livlier though. "Engaged" Dennis from the snack bar had to be spoken to sloooowly!!!!! We personally liked the visits from his "best friend" Mr. Dennis Tali!!!!
~ the peach jam lover and her quiet sister!!

Michele T

We are going to the Filoxenia Apartments at Tsilivi and wondered whether you need to take your own bath towels. I am assuming you don't, but would like to know as soon as possible - we're off on Wednesday 19/5/04. Can anyone help??

Marie W

Got back from 2 weeks in Tsilivi last weekend & stayed in a studio in the Filoxenia. It definitely surpassed my expectations. Our room was cleaned everyday & the pool cleaned every evening. The entire complex was very clean.
All the staff there were extremely friendly & helpful. The mini-market had quite a good range, although it was somewhat more expensive than the larger superemarkets in the resort centre.
The bar was quiet most evenings, except for Fridays when it livened up a bit for karaoke. The snack bar served a fairly good range of food and the prices were quite reasonable.
The main gripe I have about Filoxenia is its distance from the town. In the holiday brochure it was described as a 10 minute walk into the resort centre. If one walked briskly you might just reach the outskirts of the town in 10 minutes, but it took at least 20 minutes to get as far as the centre. To make matters worse, you were taking your life in your hands for the first 5 minutes of the walk as there's no footpath and we had to dodge lunatic drivers and psychos who zoomed around corners on mopeds. The beach was even more of a trek, so like many people we stayed by the pool.
Despite planes flying over at all hours the complex was very quiet & the only noise at night was a few noisy mopeds revving by.
Families and couples in their 20s/30s made up the majority of the guests staying there.
All in all, the Filoxenia is a lovely, quiet, clean complex, ideal for a relaxing holiday.

Ray R

Bit of a distance from the resort centre and Where is the living room in the apartment? Still very good indeed it was a pleasure to stay in such clean & pleasant surroundings: The staff are great too.

Jackie G

just returned from filoxenia apartments, had a really relaxing holiday! staff very helpful and friendly. food excellent value. exceptionally clean, maids in every day! about a 15 minute stroll into tsilivi village where we had some brilliant evenings at grace's bar (check it out ....best breakfast in tsilivi!! run by lovely people, bella mick and will) best evening meal at apolon restaurant (close to grace's bar, so have your meal then go see bella and mick!) and go to savvas jewellers to treat yourself!
hello to everyone we met there especially mary damien + the girls and claire, neil and alex x ps the air conditioning is a must -60 euros for a fortnight money well spent!

Heather B

We have just returned from Filoxenia - our second visit to Tsilivi. We were supposed to be staying at Zante Palace but Airtours changed our booking. Although these apartments are not as good as Zante Palace they are very clean and VERY quiet. The bar is dead most evenings but the Russian girl behind the bar is very friendly. Snack bar does a good breakfast and so does the Calypso in the village. Plenty of sunbeds around the two pools butunless you have toddlers I would say use the bottom pool near the shop. Be prepared for a long walk into the centre of village and to the beach. It is NOT 5 or 10 minutes but nearer 20 to 25 minutes. Taxi costs 5 euros and 15 or 20 euros (depends how many in taxi) into Laganas although the drivers are maniacs!!! Best place to eat in Tsilivi is Acropolis but other good places too many to mention. Best bar is Planet Pub (up the hill past Popeyes) really fantastic staff - Ricki, Babis, Sonia. Also Traffic Bar - and don't forget to wave to Sandra in Sandras Bar on your way into the village!!! e mail address is filoxenia@internet.gr

Yvonne R

Just returned from 2 weeks there. Stayed in 2 bedroomed appartment, which was cleaned daily to a high standard. The staff who work there are very friendly. The snacks served are of a good standard. The pools are great. It is quiet in the evenings. We bought a fan for 12 euros, but only used it twice. It takes about 10 mins to walk to town, be careful the Greeks drive very fast. Taxi fares are set at 5 euroes, horse and carriage costs 10 euroes. The telephone number for the hotel is 0695024076/7. E-mail no. is filoxenia@internet.gr You will really enjoy it.

Karen T

I am off to the Filoxenia apartments myself in September and i would like to know their web site address. Any one know it???

Paul R

Is the Filoxenia quiet and are the rooms nice. Does anybody have access to pictures of this property

Da B

Hey I could not fault this hotel, I am very pleased that I stayed here. The rooms were clean and all the facilities were available. The only down side is that it is quite a walk to the beach. However, it is quiet and the pools are great.
I will be back!

Christine B

I have booked to go next year can anyone give me a guide as to the price of Air Con for a studio, and does anyone have an email or postal address for the Apts

Sandra B

I have just arrived back home after staying at the Filoxenia Hotel it really is excellent, cleaned daily if you have trouble sleeping I would not recommend rooms 301 302 303 as you are above the bar as music can continue until the early hours even when the bar is empty. The swimming pool is great no need to get up early for sunbeds plenty to go around. The walk to the resort is very pleasant, although it can be a bit dangerous for about 5 minutes and then there is a pavement so no problem.

Lorraine P

this is one of my many visits,as i have been coming to tsilivi since 1996 and the filoxenia is the best place as yet that i have stayed in.it is clean roomy comfortable and quiet and everything you need is on site.

Stuart J

we are due to stay at filoxenia apartments in june and are woundering what the terain is like for prams inwards to the centre as we have young children in our group

Kelly P

Just returned today....cliff is fine, saw him last night hiding under my bed!!!!! Yes in the room ..... was being a cheeky rascal (as per normal) and took about 1/2 hour to coax him out with some milk! got a great photo though

Derek M

Please let me know how CLIFF the little tabby kitten is doing, if you spot him during your stay at Filoxenia.

Derek M

This was our first time in Greece and we had a lovely time. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The apartments and pool area are clean and tidy. There are loads of sun beds so you don`t have to fight for one even if you don`t get down there till 11/12 o`clock. There are some very good restaurants in the town, PIEROS and CALYPSO were the best in our opinion. The little tabby kitten`s name is CLIFF.

Mick R

Just back form Tsilivi.. Filoxenia apartments are located about 10 minutes from the centre, easily walkable. 2 nice medium sized pools, sun loungers always available, apartments are in good condition. Happy hour cocktails 6-9pm each night...great value. The Mini Market there however is quite pricey, and prices can be as much as 30-60% more epensive than the centre. No restaurant in the evenings either.

Alan G

recently returned from the Filoxenia appartments, the accomodation is first class and the staff are very friendly, the appartments are cleaned every day and i would have no reservation about recommending this to anyone, the walk into the town centre is about 10-15 mins, but lets face it on a hot summers evening does it matter. The swimming pools(2) + kids pool are a good size and there is never a problem in getting a sunbed (no germans), foods and drinks are available and are not expensive.

Chris B

We have just returned from a lovely family holiday in Zante, staying at the Filoxenia apartments. The apartments are clean and tidy, the cleaners visit everyday providing clean towels etc. It is about 15 mins away from the town and about 25 mins from the beach. Things are not as cheap as we had been told especially for the kids and my only criticism of the Filoxenia is that the kids had to create their own entertainment. Eating out is reasonable 3 course meals for 2 adults 2 children with drinks about £30-35. Unfortunately our room (301) was above the reception / bar and the noise of an evening and deliveries of a morning was sometimes tedious. Overall the Filoxenia and Zante is a nice place and I would strongly recommend an Island cruise.

Alex J

Holiday of a lifetime. The staff couldnt do enough to make us welcome. 10 out of 10 on all counts. Staying here again this year. The best holiday I have had for years.

Robert S

We are stopping at the filoxenia apartments in july and we have friends stopping at the zante palace apartments. Could any body tell us where we are located (hotels, bars, or the resort centre etc) looking forward to hearing from you. Rob.

Karen H

Can anyone give details to book direct email k.hillier@ntlworld.com

Jo

this is to Bec Harvey who if you look down the page all he does is moan! Nearly evrybody says that Filoxenia was gr8, well apart from u; maybe if you got your head out of your rear end you'd realize it wasn't overpriced, the supermarket wasn't rubbish the cafe was really gud value and nearly evrywhere you stay in Greece you hav to pay 'EXTRA' for air conditioning. I'd laugh if you did actually stay in sum appartments that were crap cos u wouldnt know wot hit u. FILOXENIA IS GR8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jo

hey Filoxenia was brill I went wi my m8 shelley and we r defo goin back nxt yr im saving up already. We went on 18th July for two weeks and couldn't fault it; the pool was cool, the cafe was really tasty, the staff were friendly( especially the barman girls!!) and the bar seemed to be open all nite. Only single dis advantage was the walk into town mind ther is always taxis. Would advise NE1 to go i cant wait til August nxt yr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

arrived back home 10/10/01, all is that i can say is that it was the best holiday ever. the apps were spotless, the people very helpfull, the pool areas very peaceful, the barman very understanding, sorry about monday and tuesday (0400am,000500am)but it was our last nights, anyway it was steve the sousers fault for keep on singing frank sinartra songs also sorry for waking every body up with our impromtu pool party at 5am but all in good spirits(litterally) all in all exellent place back next year

Shelley G

Hello me and my mate came baack from tsilivi in august, had a well good time! Filoxenia is the best!! Watch out for the baths ours always used to flood!! The boy who cleans the pool is nice the "pool boy" we used to call him! Watch out for the bar man Sakis he`s abousolutly gorgeous and a right charmer!!The apartments are clean but watch out in the afternoon the cleaners come in while your still in bed!!! The little cafe is great and cheap!! the only bad thing is that it is quite a way outta town and by the time you have walked into town your makeup has ran off!!! Make sure you pop into Reportage for a drink any way i`ll cya next year filoxenia and sakis (don`t worry you`ll get your pipa!) bye!! P.S if anyone wants to chat about it make sure you get in touch with shelleygibson76@hotmail.com

Pauline S

My friend and I were there in June it was so good I,m going back again in September. The apartments were spacious, spotless and very well equipped. The staff were all friendly and helpful and good fun each night in the bar. and the restaurants in the town were great. Only one problem, on arrival, if you haven,t a man to carry your luggage, leave it at the bottom of the steps. Trying to get down the ramp with a suitcase is like going down the Cresta Run but, it does give everyone around the pool a good laugh!!!

Runningtings

We were there in late July/early August. Having been moved from a crap hotel in Laganas, the Filoxenia was a joy. A brilliant snack bar which provided massive lunches, and the rooms were excellent. Everything was clean and fresh. And the shop sold cheap beer, what else do you want?

Bec H

My girlfriend and I stayed at this accomodation during the middle of July. I wasn't particularly fussy about where we stayed but I really do think that the price we paid was FAR too much compared to the accomodation we got. There was nothing realy wrong with it, but then again there was nothing really special either. Plus points were that it was quiet. Negative points were that the supermarket was rubbish and overpriced, the rooms were not cleaned often enough, and you had to pay EXTRA for air-conditoning. But overall, for the limited time we spent there, it was pleasurable, if expensive.

Colin J

We had 1 week in the Filoxenia from 23/8/01 and were well impressed. The accomodation was superb with plenty of room for the 5 of us. The pool area was great and the facilities were good. All the staff v. friendly and one of them even drove some friends we met back to Kalamaki when the taxies were on strike. The only down side was it is about a 10 min. walk to town, and the drivers are nuts so it can be dangerous. Keep hold of the kids. Tsilivi was great and we will come back to this resort and appartments again.

Stu T

We stayed at the Filoxenia 8 - 22 Aug - the famous 'Sanderstead Barmy Army' of 28 persons. Best accom we have stayed in Greece- v clean excellent size rooms 4 the 2 bed apartments. Pool rel. small but ok no problem with sun beds. Bit of walk to Beach, suggest go to right hand side of bay where a lot quieter - we used Relax beach bar run by Alex and Mum good milkshakes 4 kidz and mythos only £1 bottle. Read the comments book in reception -= hope u like our poem!!!

Hedley P

We have just arrived back this afternoon. I endorse the comments of the others who have liked it.Although out of town,it is not to far for a pleasant walk and it means that you are not disturbed by the noise.(Only by the crickets in the surrounding olive trees!)ry out the extensive cocktail menu in the bar - between 7p-9pm they are the cheapest around.Certainly recommended.

Mark H

Highly recommended. The apartments were very clean and tidy.Only 5-10mins walk from main area of tsilivi.2 pool areas which are well kept and a mini market on site for all needs such as groceries, newpapers, drinks etc....Definately the nicest looking hotel/apts in tsilivi

Gareth W

The accomodation was excellent- clean and comfortable. The two pool areas were well kept with plenty of sun lounges and umbrellas. There is a supermarket situated onsite which offered a wide range of goods and every day requirements. The staff were friendly and helpful and the snackbar located at the pool side offered a wide selection of greek and british food.We enjoyed our stay and would definately recomend it!

I think there are two Filoxenia Appts - one new one, which looks lovely, but is quite a way out, and one which looks a bit older, but is in a very good location near Tom & Johns and near the beach.
