Hi there,
Is the Maria Apartments the same as Maria Studios? I can't find anything about it despite a good search on the net.... except for other people saying exactly the same thing!
Hello there!!
Hello there!!
Myself and my fellah Jeff went to Maria Studios in Alykes on 29th June. We were with friends, Linda, Louise, Ken and Gem. We went so we could spend time with mine and Linda's son's, Sonny and Jordan who are working in Argassi. Maria is fabulous - couldnt have wished for a better place to stay. Bit of a hike to Argassi (20 euros each way in taxi) but worth it to see our lads. All the guys who work there really put the hours in and work hard but always have smiles on their faces. The maids are lovely and do a fantastic job. They came in every day and made beds and changed towels etc. Am looking to try and book another holiday this year cos we had such a good time and I want to go back.
hi we are going to the maria studios in alykes in august could anyone let me know if there is satellite in the bar area for my 14 year old son?thanks.x

Hello there, can anyone tell me the arrangements at the Maria when you are leaving Zante on the 6am Wednesday flight.I have heard horror stories from others who have stayed elsewhere with First Choice on Zante who say they had to vacate their rooms at 10am on the Tuesday morning with nowhere to base themselves or leave their cases .The Tuesday was just a lost day sitting around waiting to be picked up to go to the airport in the early hours of Wednesday morning. What an end to a holiday! Please tell me that doesn't happen at the Maria! We're going for a week in July.
This was our first time in Zante and just got back from a weeks holiday staying at Maria Apartments.
This is a wonderful self catering hotel - the rooms are nice and large and air conditioned. Room has all the basics you would expect (twin hob, kettle etc). Our room didn't have a telly, but that was a nice break for us to be honest. Staff are very friendly, they all say hello and ask you what you have been up to when they bump into you. The maids tidied and cleaned our room every day, whilst we were out, never expected that which I thought was a real bonus.Hi Donna,
Hi james, just to let you know we were given surveys to fill in on the plane. They had enough to go round this time and we all gave you a good report. Thanks once again for your help with the cots. Hope you got your choice of winter destination. Thanks from all the Parkins
Hi Wendy,
Hi, I'm off to the Maria Apartments in Aylkes in a couple of weeks and can't wait.., this will be our first time to Zante so looking forward to it, can anyone who's been to the Maria apartemtns tell me what the kitchen equipment is like, not that I want to cook a 3 course meal, just breakfast, is there a kettle? I know from previous visits to Greece and Turkey for that matter that there isn't always one.. any info would be good thanks.............
Just back from our second two week stay at The Maria in three years. This alone should say something. Theo, Billy, Alex and Tony were their usual cheery selves, making the atmosphere relaxing. My son, Scott, was so taken by the lads that he can't help himself saying "yamas" back here in the UK. If you want a basic, quiet and very relaxing doing-nothing holiday, this is the place to go. Once again lads, thank you for helping make the holiday another good one. Only downside was that the cleanliness of the apartments and the quality of the domestic staff was not up to the standards of three years ago. Despite this, we'll be back.
Spent two weeks from 5th june 2007 had a fabulous holiday the Maria is very friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean and comfortable. All guests that were there in these two weeks were so friendly they really made our holiday special .
My husband & I stayed at the maria in May & I will say with regards to the greek night, I didnt think the food was great but then we are foodies. The wine was warm & wasnt free flowing at all!!
Arrived back 22nd May 2007 after a two week holiday at Maria Studios with my
Fiance. The rooms were a nice size, as was the pool, the bar and the
breakfast area.
Had a really great time, Theo, Billy, Dimitri and the lovely Alex made the
evenings enjoyable with quiz nights, karaoke and magic tricks. Although
watch out for what Theo teaches you to say in Greek - not for the ladies.
Dimitri's Greek dancing was excellent and put the hired Greek dancers to
shame for the entertainment value.
Definitely take your own towels, what they provide is no larger than a tea
towel, you are only supplied with one toilet roll to which apparently in
the contract with First Choice you are only given one then you have to buy
your own.
Alykes is a good 10-15 minute walk depending on your speed and the beach
10-20 depending on which end of Alykes beach you wish to be.
We had a quad from 'Dennis' in Alykes for 95euros a week and then a scooter for
the second week for 50euros. We hired our own motorboat for 30 euro and hour and took a trip
with First Choice to Olympia for 52euro each. Never again through a tour
operator. To be honest Olympia was excellent but James the rep failed to
tell us that the total 104euro cost didnt include entrance to the museum or
the site itself or food. You found that out on the ferry with another
guide. The trip only included the cost of the ferry, coach and two guides.
Mark and I have been to Zante twice before and know the island quite well
and seen pretty much most of it and there are plenty of lovely places to
go. Port Veromi is nice, Kambi is the place for the best sunset, Kalamaki
is nice to stay and very near to Laganas which is where you go to drink
yourself stupid in the numerous amounts of bars and clubs. Tsilivi is a
nice beach, the Keri Caves and shipwreck are worth a view. Dont forget your
snorkel and flippers - lovely things to see in the warm water too.
The best restaurants in Alykes we found were Ponderosa, Spiros, Ambrosia
and the chinese/indian. The Jungle bar with Dimitri and Vicky was fun as
always.
Maria studios was a lovely stay, and would like to offer Alex our regards
and sympathies (Mark and Julia) as he lost his cousin the night before we
flew home. We never got to say goodbye to him and he bought a smile to our
faces whilst there - top guy!!!!
Julia and Mark
P.s. Alex, keep practising those WDK Blues with a straw ;o)
Hey Bibs...
We got back from Zante yesterday, having spent an absolutly fabulous week in the Maria apartments. The complex is well set out, clean, inviting, well managed and the rooms are lovely. We are going back in September, for two weeks this time as it was such a wonderful experience. We've read others comments on the staff and must admit we thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them. Theo, Dimitri, Alex and Billy were a total hoot and genuinly great guys. Very entertaining too, having had kareoke night with Dimitri ( "There's always Baileys, yah!")...and Alex who is deceptivly quiet, don't be fooled...("Bibs!")...as well as Theo and Billy who are true gents.
I have stayed at the Maria apartments many times and have found Theo and the lads who run the place to be absolutley brilliant. They are always polite and respectful to the guests and above all do their best to keep everyone happy. "jelly Kones" must have got her apartments mixed up because all the greek nights I have experienced have been great fun and very good value. Sure the guys like to flirt with the ladies but its all done with a twinkle in their eye and is just harmless fun with no offence meant. Its all part of having the knack of making everyone feel special and Theo and the lads do exactly that.Yammas!
Please can you help me find e-mail address of Maria Apartments in Alykes Zante Carola
Anyone staying at the Maria apartments is in for a treat. It is run by three Greek men who all have excellent sences of humour and made our stay special. There is a bit of a walk into the village and the beach (11 minutes) but the view coming home is spectacular and you can always get a horse and buggy to bring you home (before 2.30 in the morning though). We loved our stay here and cannot praise it enough, the atmosphere was lovely and everyone met up in the bar and got on like a house on fire.
i have stayed in these appartments many times and they are brilliant, only about 10 yards away from the beach if i was you i would defonatly use these appartments.i am staying in these appartments again on sunday the 4th of june and if i see any of you i will say hello
Recently stayed at the Maria, bad luck if you are placed in the room above bar especially no.41. It was so loud every night. The complex was quite nice, although about 15 mins walk from beach and tavernas. The complex and rooms were kept clean.
For the people that have just got back. Were the lads still as amourous as ever and will i need to take my man repellant spray?!!
I am going back to Alykes in august this year. I did not stay at these apartments
safe deposit boxes are availible at the maria apartments and are cheap to rent
Hiya Sarah, yes there are safety deposit boxes at the Maria Apatrtments they are in the pool/snack bar. How long you going for and when? I can find out the price of one for you. They hire fans too but it is cheaper to hire one from town, most places will drop them off and pick them up for you. Any other info just message back
Are there any safety deposit boxes at the Maria Apartments in Alykes?
just back from maria apts in alykes and they were very good. clean ,maid service excellent and the comments about the bar lads are totally unjustified. they were helpful and polite. the location meant about a ten minute walk to the centre but it was fine for walking off your splendid meal!
please be warned the lads who run this place expect us paying people to provide them with cigarettes, alchahol, and large tips. they always win at pool and try to get there hands on pretty ladies. the room was on the ground floor no shower curtain raw muck coming back through the drain in the bathroom, the bed broke twice just by sitting on it i am not large. i have been to kos twice and the rep here said greece is primitive NO ITS NOT. greece is a simple way of life but in kos we had good drainage system and a shower curtain. BACK TO KOS AND FAREWELL TO ZANTE
It's taken me 4 months to post this, but here goes.
My girlfriend, Lesley, and I stayed here for 2 weeks in September 2004. The temperature suddenly dropped significantly at night and during our second week. This however was no deterrent to us returning sometime.
We thought the setting was excellent; the rooms comfortable and clean; the atmosphere relaxed; the cleanliness of the pool; Theo, Phil and the other lads were just so hospitable - made everyone feel so welcome and just be part of the crowd. (The fact that they took an interest in Queen Of The South F.C. made them my holiday heroes.) The 10 to 15 minute walk from the centre of Alykes, which has some really good bars and restaurants, made you work up a thirst to sample the cocktails.
What made it for us was the quiet location, being so relaxed and friendly, thus enabling us to totally chill out and have a great holiday.
It would take some doing NOT to enjoy this place.
Certainly recommended!!!
Really nice, clean and friendly place to stay. Excellent location for those who want a quiet relaxing atmosphere. Apartments have a lovely central pool with a pool bar serving nice food. The main bar in the evening is lively and friendly and a good place to watch any footy thats on. The Apartments are well laid out and the staff are really freindly making you feel very welcome and they like to get everybody involved.
Its not to far to walk to the town, the supermarkets or the beach in Alykes which is also full of really good restaurants and bars.
I would recommend it to anyone.
The maria is set in a wonderful, peaceful part of alykes. It has such a fantastic atmosphere and ignore anything bad which is said against the guys that work there. they work extremely hard to welcome each guest. the atmosphere there is fantastic and plenty of cocktails are on offer for you to sample!
a great getaway from it all destination with a fun atmosphere...
enjoy it!!!!!!!!!!!
Well my family and I has just returned from the Maria Apartments it was our second visit and it was as fabulous as before...the guys are brilliant and it was great to see them again. The situation of the resort is perfect very quiet far enough from everything and nightlife but also near enough to walk!! The people who you stay with really make your holiday and we had brilliant company all the time very sad when we all departed. Tony is a brilliant laugh at first he does really say much but then once he gets to know you it all changes!!Billy Theo and Phill are friendly all the time no matter if they know you or not...really great people.Totally will be back next year without a doubt..
Thanks guys for everything...missing you all loads and loads.
all the girlies send their love.see you really soon!!
I just got back from hotel maria 2 days ago & i wish i was still there!! Everyone is so friendly & the bar staff: Bill, Theo, Tony & Phil are amazing! They made the holiday so much fun! Even though Phil never did give me my Sean Paul CD back that he borrowed!! Hahaha no it's ok Phil you can keep it. They're also all amazing at pool so beware if you want 2 enter the pool competion! Bill won it the 1st week i was there & a guest (surprisingly) the 2nd week. Phil's greek dancing at the BBQ is also something you can't miss! Overall it was an amazing holiday & i would love to go back again next year so maybe i'll bring all my friends (I'm sure the barmen would love that!)
P.S. Bill i had a great time with you & i miss you loads. Maybe I'll see you next year?
Jayne, can I just point out that you were only there for two weeks! Ok you do only get small towels and the rooms are basic fair enough but the lads are fantastic, they looked after me and my family really well, if you were expecting the f ing Ritz why did you book there its a 2 star hotel not a 5 star. Just to let you know the lads do not always win at the pool competition they were beaten the two weeks I was there. If you got in such a tiz about tony using your moped you should have just said noit's not that difficult!
After a wonderful fortnight (25/07 - 08/08) staying at Hotel Maria we didnt want to leave for England. Although the hotel wasnt situated in the best of places we found it to be a wonderful place to stay. Who doesnt enjoy walking 40mins a day? (to the beach and back) It does you the world of good!
The staff at the hotel were all great. The cleaners are wonderful and extremely friendly. We would like to thatnk Phil, Bill, Tony and Theo for providing us with endless entertainment and many happy memories. Although they all worked long hours they were always smiling and very friendly.
My 1year old daughter loved spending time in the pool which was always clean however there is a bit too much chlorine in it. (My advice, dont wear your fave T-shirt in the pool as it will become a very pale shade of the original colour!)
Food at the hotel was of a high standard although only basic meals were served. Service with a smile made it all better!
Night life in the town isnt really up to much but there are a few bars that get more lively as the night goes on. We didnt have a bad meal the whole time we were there which is always a bonus.
We had a great holiday and we are already planning to return next year.
Stayed here first two weeks in Aug. Accommodation very basic. If you're unfortunate enough to stay in room 13,14,16, or 17, expect a non-existent balcony. Cleaners are friendly enough. Take your own bath towels as they only provide hand ones. Found the bar staff( 4 blokes who run the place for Maria) willing enough to take your money for the extortionate drinks, but unhelpful for anything else. If you hire a moped, expect Toni ( the slimiest of the bar staff) to borrow it every day to fetch the bread (dont expect a thank you or a beer in return.) Dont get drawn into the Pool competition, one of the bar staff always wins it, yet another way to scam the guests. Oh, and if you've got daughters, keep them locked in your room, its the safest place away from the bar staff.
We were in the Maria apartments in July and thought it was great. One week really wasn't enough. We really had a relaxing time and found the apartments a friendly, welcoming place to be. Met a lot of great people during our week, who made our holiday even more enjoyable (hello to Kim & Darren, John & Hilary and everyone else we met!) Hope you three Manchester girls managed to pull...!
Theo, Phil and the boys - cheers for a great week and being perfect hosts.
We'd also recommend the Zakfari jeep safari - 50E a head, but worth every cent.
Ps. John/Hilary - I managed to lose your email - see mine below if you'd like to keep in touch!
andydkay@hotmail.com
stayed here with hubby and the two kids for two weeks in july. lovely staff. Phil and Theo make you feel very welcome. We firstly had the family room over the bar, and stuck it for a week, but the kids werent able to sleep, so asked to move room and this was no problem!!! rooms are basic, but do the job and are cleaned daily.quite a trek to the town in the day, but pleasant at night. didnt find the drinks expensive, 3 euros for a cocktail was cheaper than some places in town. Greek night is good too. Will certainly consider returning.
Me and the new Missus just got back from Zante (19/7/04)having had an excellent last minute honeymoon. The Maria Apartments proved an excellent base, clean with superb pool to chill in. The apartments etc are kept well and clean, Theo and Phil great hosts. We would recommend the Zackfari Jeep safari , the tour round the Island on the boat (a lot of operators to choose from). Also Blue caves and turtle spotting. We also hired a moped for the week for 60e, and I would recommend that you use it to go up to the blue caves by road and jump on a boat there (save cash). Hi to Andy and Evellyn. Excellent Holiday!
We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Maria Apartments and had an excellent time. The room was basic but had all you needed and was kept very clean. We stayed in room 29 and had good views of the pool and surroundings. On our two week holiday we met so many friendly people and the atmopsphere in the apartments was great. The guys who manage the place are excellent and keep you well entertained throughout the holiday, the 2 weeks flew by! Hi to Phil, Theo, Billy & Tony, thanks for making it a great holiday. We would recommend the Maria Apartments to all and we will return there again soon. YAIMAS!!
If anyone we met wants to keep in contact email kizquierdo@hotmail.com as it would be good to hear from you guys again!:)
I WENT A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, IT WAS FAB!!!!!!!!
We have just stayed at the Maria Apartments with our two girls 13 & 17 and have no complaints whatsoever. OK, so the 'bathroom' is small and the shower is open but we didn't flood our floors and all bathrooms in Greece are the same anyway, we had rooms 3 & 4 which were near the pool bar. Maids were efficient and friendly, don't be afraid to ask if you want something. The cocktail bar did stay open late but we were only disturbed for one night into the wee hours and that was not the fault of Theo & Phil but of teenage girls (never happened again). Theo & Phil are great guys and sensible with it, do a lovely BBQ on Sat nights plus pool night plus quiz night. They don't really hassle you to buy drinks that much. I had a scooter €60 for 7 days to get out and about, the Maria is a 15 min walk from the shops etc. which we founf relaxing in the evening but it is hot during the day especially if you had to go back and forth hence the scooter - well worth it. If you want detailed info please email me robinbellion@hotmail.com, the Maria IS good.
Just returned from a week at the Maria Apartments. The accomodation was basic but clean and the room we had (19) was spacious. The bathroom however was tiny and the floor got flooded every time one of us had a shower. The maids went in to clean most days ( I think in a week they missed one day ) but they only change the towels and bedding once a week. The pool and staff were great though it could get a bit noisy up until 4am with music from the bar (make sure you request a room that isn't over it). The food was ok nothing special. We hired a scooter for 10 Euros a day to get to and from town and the beach as it is about a 20 minute walk which can be a bit much when the tempreture is in the 40's!
All in all a good place to stay, mainly families and couples. The rep Holly was pretty helpful too.
I have just returned today from my stay in Alykes,at the Maria apartments. The accomodation was basic but clean and I agree with everyone else that the staff made it excellent. We missed not having a kettle in our room and they only provide one hand towel per person. It is quite a distance from the village, about twenty minutes walk. This could be a problem if you have children however we did not mind. Also when you arrive there is no welcome pack so you will need to purchase toilet roll and water as this also is not provided. It is worth the short walk to the local supermarket as the hotel charges in excess for these essentials. Overall the holiday was lovely, I would recommend that you do the jeep safari it was a great day and definately the best way to see the island.
if you are coming in a large group 2 marias would it b really expensive2 get 2 rooms?
i visited maria hotels about 2 years ago! been lookin on the net4 their website but only just appearred! when i was there i enjoyed myself more than any other holiday i've been on. Found a great friend in the young Alex, HEY BABY! Amazing bloke, kept in contact for long time but sadly don't hear from him anymore. There was a permanently welcoming and relaxed atmosphere which makes you feel at ease. If any of the guys do read this then e-mail me at: sarky_clogz@hotmail.com. It would be really nice 2hear from u! Phil, hope ur still with liverpool, no other contenders!!! AY, AY, ALRITE MATE!
sophie ford so you didnt get sex all week you should have tried the pig in the field next to the panos or the chickens what ever your fancy
I Stayed in the Maria apartments for two weeks from 29th june-13 of july. Lovely apartments, cleaned regulary, friendly staff and wonderful rep, Kim.The lads, Phil, Theo, Alex and Billy were all friendly and ensured you had a good holiday. I returned for a week from 7th-14th of September on my own and all the staff looked after me really well including Maria the owner. I agree with some comments about the drinks being expensive but i think we need to take into account that it is a hotel, we would expect to pay more in this country if we drank in a hotel. I did not find any of the staff to be 'snotty' they were very helpful all of the time. I would however make note that this is a basic hotel and aslong as you dont go expecting a room from the Ritz you will have a great holiday. Great restaurants, bars and beech in Alykes well worth a visit
We spent 2 weeks at Maria's end Aug/beginning September (2 adults, 2 kids). Very nicely laid out apartments, though we had the misfortune to have the family room above the bar/pool room. V. Loud music until 3am most nights. Kitchen area not really suitable for self catering - only good for making tea/coffee and stacking the fridge with water, juice, gin etc. Staff friendly but bar prices mega expensive compared to others down the road or in the town. Pool very nice, with little kids play area. Quiz nite good fun. Booked for Barbecue BUT wasn't told it was cancelled. Beach and town centre not too far away, and horse taxis were always available if you really didn't want to walk back late at night. It's a resort packed with Brits, so don't go there if you want something a bit "Greek"! Kim the Olympic rep was very helpful and kind (and honest!).
Just returned from a fortnight here from 24/8/03. The apartments pretty & are set in a picturesque area that is a bit of a walk into town (10-15min). There are a couple of bars abit closer and the nearest supermarket is a 5-10min walk - which can be quite a trek in the boiling sun! The pool is great but the drinks are expensive - you could get the beer from the supermarket for a third of the price the bar was charging. The staff are friendly and encourage you to drink in the bar as much as possible!
Although the maids come round every day, they don't change the sheets much & you only get one skimpy towel each.
You can get a horse & cart ride back to the apartments on a night (which the kids loved)- they will say 10 euros, but barter them and you will get it for 5-7 euros.
It can be a bit loud on a night as the noise seems to echo round the pool, but they close the bar doors at about 12-1 and its OK then. Overall we had a good time.
PS. Hello Barbara & David, Luke would like to hear from David.
Sue, Rob, Luke & Nathan.
My son and I returned to England on 31st Aug after spending a very enjoyable week in the sun at the Maria Apartments. Before leaving England I was a little concerned because it was the first time I'd been abroad as a single parent. I needn't have been worried at all. The staff (particularly Phil - thank you Phil!) made me feel completely at ease and all of them were wonderful with my son, who spent hours playing on the pool table. David is still desperately trying to perfect whistling through a straw so that he can impress everyone when we go back next year.
Kym, the rep, was nothing short of excellent and went out of her way to help me after I'd made a mistake during booking too many excursions. A big thank you to Kym!
The hotel itself is very pleasant with some terrific views from the balcony, but it's the warmth and consideration of the staff that make it unforgettable. Thank you again, Phil, Billy, Theo and Alex. Hope to see you all again soon!
Love,
Barbara & David
xx
we just returned on the 24th August, the weather was fantastic but the hotel was quite poor. the blokes who work behind the bar are just interested in earning their commision on drinks you buy from them so don't be fooled, go to the Dolphin Bar right next door its only 2 euros a cocktail and the bar man gives you free testers and oodles of crisps and nuts for free too. Maria was a bit snotty, she doesn't like talking to the guesta and kym the Rep for olympia was rubbish. if you walk past her in the street don't expect her to be polite or say hello. she was not very helpful and she didn't even take us back to the airport, the greek (none speaking english) driver took us and so we didn't know where to go and book in (at the shed that they call the airport). the plug in mozzy repelant things don't work, we had 3. the cleaners are good as they changed our sheets er, once and cleaned by using a hose in the bathroom. this made it very slippy and hard to stay upright once they had left. if you get rooms 13 or 14 expect a postage stamped size balcony because you can only fit your foot on it. all the other rooms have lovelly sized balconies though but smaller rooms. it is what you would expect to be a quiet location as it is nothing like Laganas or argassi. this resort suits old couples or families with young children. you have to get down to the pool early though as in true english style, the towels are placed on the sunbeds and reserved very quickly in the morning. there are loads of resteraunts in this resort but they tended to add a couple of euros on each time (we think for the bread that they give you before the meal). the cheapest way to eat though was at marias resteraunt, pizza and chips for 2 euro 50 cents each. the euro has made the island much more expencive that when it was the drakma so if you have been before and think it was cheap, don't get caught out, take more money, we ran out! so if you have booked already, er i'm sure it will be nice but if you havn't booked yet, don't.
We had a good time time at the Maria Apartments. The room was basic but clean and seemed more important to us than not having a kettle, having to buy your own loo roll and the cost of hiring a fan for a week. Tip - get a plug-in mosquito repellant, they work very well and keep the little rascals at bay. The staff are really friendly, polite, cheerful and helpful.
Phil with his 28 or 29 Liverpool shirts, singing and dancing skills, not to mention his straw, bottle and cigarette tricks are all highly amusing;
Theo and his pool challenges (although he tends to let you win most of the time and is easily side tracked by trying to get people to 'come in for a drink');
Alex 'the snail' (his new nickname while we were there) works hard all day and night and after a few drinks slips into his 'Alex in the mix' routine and DJs for the rest of the evening - his style is unmistakeable;
Last but not least, Bill who serves breakfast with a smile and is pretty good at acrobatic summersaults into the pool (rare, but he gets a good audience and the kids and ladies seem to like this).
The drinks in the bar can be expensive but the beers are relatively well priced. Another tip - buy some alcoholic drinks from the supermarket (5-10 minutes walk away) and as much bottled water as possible as you will be needing it and simply chill them in the fridge. Have a few drinks before you go out to the bar or in town and it will save you a lot of money! Phil, Theo and Bill all mix some wicked cocktails and all have their unique way of mixing them. Their showmanship is A+. The pool is very clean (Alex does this every night but beware the powdered chlorine in a breeze - it is not a good idea to leave your doors open when he does this). It can also get very busy during the day as there are avid sun bathers making the most of the facilities. The pool bar is open till late and serves food all day. The menu is quite extensive but serves a lot of British food.
The Greek night was good and the BBQ food was a delight. The dancing and music was entertaining and Phil joined in frequently, which everyone enjoyed. The karaoke night was amusing too but is only as good as the brave souls willing to get up and sing (this is where the extra drinks from the supermaket help!).
The walk to the beach is about 10-15 minutes but beware walking along the road as some drivers speed around the corners and there is no pavement on either side. The staff at the Maria Apartments would like you back alive so you can have a drink or two or ten in the bar. They like to surprise you with some potent shots every now and again. They really are very generous. Just remember to say 'Yamas' (cheers). The music can be a little too loud for some and this is basically down to personal opinion. The view from the apartments is quite picturesque and anyone above ground level gets more of a view than just the pool.
Kim, our rep was very nice and helpful and frequently visits the apartments. Overall, Maria Apartments doesn't have a fancy facade or indeed many facilities but what it lacks in these is gained by the warm and welcoming staff who really made our stay more enjoyable.
Just returned, apartments are basic and we would have appreciated air conditioning. They are cleaned on a daily basis. The Greek night was fun and a quiz and pool competition were also organised.Theo, Phil and Alex made everyone feel welcome and were very entertaining.
P.S Check out Alexs' 5 star accomodation!
JUST GOT BACK IT WAS A SHAME ABOUT THE WILD LIFE WE HAD IN OUR APARTMENT ON THE GROUND FLOOR. (ROOM 6) BEDDING + TOWELS COULD DO WITH BEING CHANGED MORE THEN ONCE A WEEK. THE CLEANESS OF THE SWIMMING POOL WAS EXCELLENT, BAR STAFF WERE GOOD FUN.
Just got back and had an excellent couple of weeks! The maids were very good but I could have done without the early morning wake up calls after a night out in Laganas! The birds also wake you up nice and early. Loved the pool and bar. Alex, Theo and Phil - you were great! Special thanks to Alex and Theo for taking us out on our first night! Check out Phil's Liverpool accent - funny stuff! Cocktails were good and got me drunk most nights! Miss you all and will definitely come back again asap xx
Just back, one of the cleanest apartments we've stayed in. The staff were really great, we had a fantastic time!
Just got back. Too far out when going out twice a day in the heat. Walk more like 20 mins than 10.
No probs with Bar or Music, just the dawn chorus from all the birds every morning, horrendous. Food good in snack bar and reasonable prices. Basic rooms as per normal Greek standards, could have done with a sheet change mid week though. Pool was the main plus point. Wouldn't go again but staff were friendly.
Just had an excellent two weeks here in May. Quiet location but only 10-15 mins from beach/town centre. Lively bar (but toned down a bit after midnight), lovely pool area, clean & cool rooms despite temperatures over 30C. Very friendly staff who'd do anything for you - thanks to Theo, Phil and Alex ( but Phil - 25 Liverpool shirts? - sad man!). All helped to generate a really good atmosphere for everybody. Special mention for Olympic rep Lisa - hope you get your winter in Egypt or Maldives!
FANTASTIC!! Stayed there for two weeks, maid service was excellent rooms were very clean, facilities basic but no different from anywhere else in Greece. Pool fantastic cleaned every evening. All staff were very friendly, Phil Theo and Alex made us very welcome, cocktails were FAB!! Lisa the rep was ACE. The bar is lively but it doesn't effect you once you are in your room. I would recomend it to anyone!!! We will be going back ASAP!!!
Maid service everyday aso rooms were clean. Bar was loud until about 12 o'clock and then the shutters were pulled down so out side noise was at a minimum. Our room was above the bar and music could only just be heard. Staff excellent. Theo, Phil and "Monkey Boy" Alex made us all welcome.
We had a fantastic week there, staff wre very friendly and a good laugh!! rooms were clean maid everyday the pool bar stayed open till around 3am pool area very clean i woldnt recomend it for familys becouse it tendst be quite loud on a night but for couples wanting a relaxing but lively time stay at marias!!!
It's very noisy, and not just the apartmetns over the bar. No air conditioning or fans, so the choice is sleeping in a sauna or in a disco. Don't go if you want to relax and sleep on your holiday! The apartments were in poor repair, bathroom door didn't shut, lightbulbs missing, electrical fitments falling out of the wall. And the pool got progressively more cloudy as the fortnight went on. Don't go there!
We stayed at the Maria Apartments last year for two weeks and we're going back this year. The apartments are basic (as most in Greece) but the staff are excellent. The bar can stay open quite late but as long as you don't have an apartment above the bar you would be OK, it's not generally that noisy. It's about a 10 minute walk into the centre which has some excellent bars and restaurants. Not a lot to do in the apartments for kids apart from the swimming pool but the beach and centre is only a 10-15 minute walk away.
We are going to the Maria apts in May 2002 in Alykes. Has anyone been? What is it like for kids? I've read that it is very noisy and the music from the bar goes on into the early hours! Could anyone comment?
Can anyone tell me about the Maria Apartments in Alykes. We are going there in August this year. Thanks
