We really enjoyed our meal although it was a bit of a mystery tour to get there but what a lovely setting very restful .The food was excellant and the service .The carrige ride was lovely but on the way back we were dropped of along way from our accomodation the only down side ,this was not the LemonTree's fault. |
Best place EVER!!!!
Hi Jess!
could u give me the lemon tree address
i loved the lemon tree when i was in greece cnt wait to come bk next year miss you sokrates love jess xxxxx
My favourite! Such a romantic, tranquil and really very pretty setting. The food was utterly scrumptious on the several occasions we ate there. Got very busy but the service still attempted to keep up. I had the sardines which were really good. Oh and the shrimp cocktail to start was lovely because they were fresh prawns (unlike the defrosted ones in many of the other tavernas).
If you love the traditional atmosphere of Greece, then this is the restaurant for you!!!!! After experiencing the 'English' atmosphere of Tsilivi, etc, we happened to find Psarapoula (or The Lemon tree) restaurant whilst driving through Alykanas one day. After our first evening here, we returned another 4 times throughout our 2 week stay.
Our reasons for liking this restaurant were:
Also known as "The Lemon Tree" We were staying at Alykanas Beach Studios and Appts from 14th May - 28th May 2006 and were gutted we only went to this restuarant once. We went there on a Thursday "Live Music Night", of our 2nd week. We travelled in a free horse and carriage and sat in the picturesque garden area. The food was excellent especially the starters(Calamari & Grilled garlic prawns , followed by the roast lamb and chicken a la creme.) The live entertainment was a Bazouki/Guitar duo who were both friendly and very good. Probably the best meal we had on our holiday, definately worth it, even though we did wait a while for the bill, but you do anyway don't you !
.....We found this restaurant to be welcoming and the food was delicious. The whole family work very hard and I would recommend this place to anyone. This is Greek outdoor dining at it's best. Unspoilt by tourism and I think determined to stay that way. If you want luxury go and stay in a 5* hotel. If you like authentic greek dining and hospitality come here and have a great evening. Thanks Psarapoula. Pete and Diane from Oxford
We ate here twice but found different levels of food and service. 1st Time was good and 6 out of 6 meals were good , the service was good and the horse drawn carriage here was a nice touch but you do feel for the poor horse. The second time we went mine and 2 other meals were awful. Poor food and poor service, but what really put us off was whilst we were waiting for the Horse outside to go back into Alykanas we noticed a kitchen staff member feed the horse with his hand and then wonder back into the kitchen wipe his hand on a towel then contimue to prepare food. We didnt return again!! Loveley setting though and this sort of thing probably happens all the time not just in Greece but also in the UK but we dont get to see it. Unfortunately we did see it and it put us off.
A lovely place to eat, out of the main town, walkable but better to take the horse drawn carriage. Pleasant setting by the quiet (makes a change !) road and in the garden. Fantastic food, friendly waiters (no comedians or chuckers in) and all for a good price. Make sure you leave the main resort for at least one night to eat here !
Thanks for your help - didn't realise the Psarapoula is the same place as the Lemon Tree. Booked today - we fly out on the 2nd of October from glasgow for 2 weeks, we are staying at the Mousazakis Studios - I believe they are behind the Levante bar. Annette
Hi Annette
Been tolAlikanas in early June. Don't recall this taverna Psarapoula. Found the Shoestring and Lemon Tree - Can anyone tell me where it is as thinking of going back in early October and wouldn't mind giving it a try.
Lovely location, abismal food & over-priced. They couldn't even get
the Greek food right. Service is slow, but if you're going with kids,
use your brain and go early to avoid frustration! May be a good
idea to get a horse & cart if you have kids in tow, but it's a nice
stroll back especially on a balmy summer's evening.
We have just enjoyed a lovely relaxing two week holiday in Alikanas, and a huge part of our enjoyment was eating out at the Lemon Tree. With the exception of two occasions, we ate there every night, and the food was excellent every time. The setting is perfect, and the staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble, and I would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone visiting the resort.
The thing to remember about this Restaurant is that it specialises in FISH Dishes therefore, we got mixed reports. We had walked passed this place earlier in the day & thought what a beautiful place it was. So we decided to give it a go & tried the Mixed Souvlaki, the Meat was nothing special & the Roast Potatoes were burnt. The Staff weren't as friendly as those in the Restaurants in the Main Town.

Found this Taverna from word of mouth. We were so glad that we were told about it. Just 10 minutes walk from main strip and well worth walking out of the main road which is a plesant walk. Beautiful restaurant that has not lost it's Greek charm. Food absoloutley divine we went back four times in the evening and twice for lunch and was never dissapointed. Excellent service. Run by a Greek family and a lovely english girl called Lisa, who made us comfortable and enjoyed the evenings. We will go back next year and so glad that me and my wife found this absoloute tresure...best restaurant
Excellent food, nice quiet location, and friendly staff make this a good choice, also a playground for children right next to the tables.great.
just read other reviews amazed at some of the average comments for this far from average
taverna, maybe some people don't like the competition!!!!
i have been meaning to add a comment on this lovely taverna. i was in greece alone and
later with aparty of friends. this was my favourite place to eat, anytime of the day. the
setting is romantic and quiet, service exceptioally friendly and food fab. cant recommend
it highly enough, well worth the short and pleasant walk . A++++++++
I’v been waiter in this shop before 2 years.
The meal it was very good and I saw with my eyes that him they cooked.
As long as for the personnel he is slow because thus it is the system of shop.
Does not have collaboration personal boss!
it's worth going here for the nice garden and lovely cat, but the food is nothing special really. my boyfriend ordered a 'stuffed burger' for some reason - the meal that came was surprisingly nice, he was lucky!
We ate at the Psarapoula on numerous occasions, and we were at our happiest here above all the other restaurant that we tried in Alykanas. The food was superb, the owners were very friendly, it had a lovely SAFE childs play area, the waitresses were all very nice, couldn't fault the place. I'm astounded this place only scores 5 out of 10 - don't other people have taste buds!
What a superb taverna! My family & I absolutely love this place. The food is excellent and the service is good. I cannot understand why some people complain about having to wait, when all said and done we're on holiday and chilling out. Just enjoy....!!!
See you next year year Jimmy & Lisa.
Excellent taverna - 10 out of 10
We will definitely be back here next year...again!!
Went twice as a party of four and travelled by horse and carriage on both occasions. The restaurant will deduct half the price of one carriage ride from your bill if you ask. Seemed to be very popular and the food was excellent, especially the sea bass and a Greek variety starter that was big enough for everyone to dip into. The live bazouki and guitar music on Thursday evenings adds to the ambiance and is worth planning for. There's a small outside children's play area, so pick your table carefully if you prefer cats to kids.
A little bit off the beaten track, but well worth a visit to this fantastic 'Lemon Tree' restaurant. Just turn left at 'Busters' bar and it's about a 10-min walk(or take a 'Taxi'). The food, service & location is fantastic, and the price is not bad either. Well worth checking out!
Just back from our 5th visit to Alikanas. Found this restaurant to be excellent, the food was delicious, the service was friendly and the atmosphere and setting of the restaurant was wonderful. Always got free wine, brandy or fruit to end the evening. Well worth the walk, try it you wont be disappointed!
My family & I have visited this taverna numerous times, we have never had a bad meal.
The service has been very good, the staff are polite & friendly. So what if you do have to wait a little while...you're on holiday!!
I definitely reccommend this taverna.
The sardines were the best we'd had and the mixed souvlaki was so good!
Another bonus for this taverna is the childrens play area.
We stayed in alykanas for three weeks, out of that time we ate here 16 times. We tried other tavernas, none came anywhere near, great food
great service, very child friendly, because of the play area.It is also good because it is away from the noise of alykanas`s main road.We will be going back their next year.
Enjoy the carraige ride to this place it old Alikanas, its the best part of the night. Friendly staff. The Greek food was average. Served with boring chips/rice. Not worth the walk and there's nothing else around it - no bars etc. There's better in the main part of the town. If you walk back - beware of the many low flying bats!!
We stayed in Alykanas for the last two weeks in August 2004 and ate at the Lemon Tree on approximately 4 occasions. We took the horse and carriage ride to the restaurant which was lovely (you must ask for Spiros). Although the service was slow on the busier nights i.e. Thursday when they have live music, we did not mind at all. We took a pack of cards and passed the time away playing cards. The food was always of a good quality and very reasonably priced (you must try the Hummous). Lisa the English speaking girl was extremely helpful with anything we wanted to know and the staff were always welcoming. I would have no hesitation in recommening this restaurant.
We ate here twice, the first time it was poor so we tried again, as this used to be a really excellent place to eat. Not much better though. I tried the lamb kleftico, the meat wasn't cooked properly, it was so tough I just couldn't chew it at all.
Didnt take the horse and carriage here but walked along beach from our apts and along the road near Neraida. The food was good and reasonably priced but there are just as good tavernas in the village within easier reach.
I don't know how people can not like the psaropoula, yes i agree that you do have to wait some times on a extremely busy night, but believe me it is worth the wait. I believe when you are on holiday you are meant to be relaxed, and waiting one hour for your main course is not that long. We ate here four evenings out of seven, and wished we found it earlier, the food is fantastic. All times we found the restaurant packed so i think that alone says it all.....
we have to aggree with the comments below although the food was nice the service the night we went was shocking we also had to wait around an hour for our food to arrive all in all was a bit of a let down as we had heard it was one of the best in the resort we were going to go for our anniversay meal but ended up going to Dionosis instead
Never again! We've eaten here at least twice for the last 5 years, but this time we had to wait over an hour, the staff ignored us, we'd been there over 20 minutes before we were even asked whether we wanted drinks. After 30 mins we ended up having to ask them for a menu and then waited over an hour from ordering the food to actually getting it. There were a few complaints that night from other guests who vowed never to go again after complaining about the food and the length of time they waited. Both myself and hubby had stifado and got 3 small pieces of beef in it, and my eldest son had the same problem as others ie his burger bun was made of stone!! Never mind there's plenty more restaurants to go to!
The Davis family will be staying at Alykanas Beach Village for 2 weeks from Aug 19th 2004. Roz, Martyn, Liam 13 and Gemma 10. Any information of interest would be appreciated. Any families with kids of similar age staying at same time, say hello.
WE FOUND THIS TAVERNA A PLEASURE TO EAT IN. ONE OF THE BEST, GREAT FOOD, GREAT ATMOPSPHERE, GREAT SERVICE.
WE ATE THERE 12NIGHTS OUT OF 14...THAT SAYS SOMTHING SURELY.WE STAYED AT THIS RESORT LAST YEAR BUT DIDN'T USE THE LEMON TREE AS SOMEONE SAID YOU HAD TO WAIT FOR THE HORSE AND CART TO GET HOME..WHAT A BIG MISTAKE AS WE HAD THE LOVELY RIDE UP ON THE CART,HAVE A DRINK WHILE ORDERING TRY THE HUNTERS CHICKEN..MMMMM OR THE SHRIMPS IN GARLICK AND THE DESSERTS.. IF YOU GOT ROOM! DO NOTHING FOR YOUR WAISTLINE... BUT HEY YOUR ON HOLIDAY MIND YOU WHEN WE GO BACK I MIGHT JUST BLAME JIMMY AND LISA FOR MY EXPANDING WAISTLINE. ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS WHEN IT WAS LATE ON LEAVING JIMMY THE BOSS GAVE US A LIFT IN HIS CAR HOME (BMW)ALL THE FAMILY WERE WONDERFUL AND IT TRUELY MADE OUR HOLIDAY LOOKING FORWARD TO GOING UP THERE EVERY EVENING.ON LEAVING WE WERE PRESENTED WITH A PRESANT AND A BOTTLE OF WINE. AND TWO VERY SAD HOLIDAY MAKERS SAID GOODBYE.BLESS YOU ALL AT THE LEMON TREE XXX
we had quite a wait too, but what i remember most was the appalling state of my son's bun that his cheeseburger came in. If he had dropped it on his toe it would have fractured it was that hard.
Have to agree with Rebecca regarding the service if there was any service. Just back from a visit and never again, two hours to wait for a meal that was well below standard compared to anywhere in Alykanas, should have done what quite a few did, walked out and went somewhere else.
All we can say about the lemon tree garden is absolutely fantastic,
we loved it, the food was surperb, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the price no different to other restaurants..best restaurant traditional greek...
We have been coming to Alikanas for years, and this is our favourite taverna. We have always found the food to be very good. There have been alot of changes to the taverna over the last few years, which one of these is the Play area, which with grand children ourselves adds a nice touch. We have always found the restaurant to be clean, just go and look in the toilets and you will see for yourself.
We liked the food here and the setting is lovely, what put us off was the service - sometimes it wasn't so much slow as being totally ignored. I had to either wave them down or go inside a couple of times to find someone as we had been waiting for ages (and the children were getting desperate for pudding! - the play area can only distract for so long). I'm used to taking it much slower on holiday especially in Greece but this got really silly. Went twice to give it a decent chance but didn't go back again. Shame really as the food is quite good.
Like the dionisos basic hygiene put us off after a really good 1st visit. we clearly saw a kitchen staff member come out and feed the horse that carries so many people with his hands then go back into the kitchen wipe his hands on a towelk then continue to prepare food without washing them. maybe were a bit fussy but that isnt good in our opinion. However we all had good meals here on the 1st visit but ironically the second we felt it was not so good.
wonderful setting. food tasty .price not bad. great carriage ride back into alykanas, great fun !!!!!
We were not that impressed with the Psarapoula. Yes the surroundings are lovely, with the lemon tree garden. I can't remember what my husband had, but I had the moussaka. Now I know that it is traditionally made with aubergines, and that some use potato. They use all aubergines, which was a bit too much. Maybe I just don't appreciate good food. I have had better moussaka before. The transport up is a good idea. However, the horse that took us was 20 years old and actually fell on the way back and the cart hit one of its back legs, and its straps broke. We never saw that horse for the rest of our stay . If anyone knows how it is, or has seen it, I would love to know. It is a white horse called Spiro. Think twice before using this transport please, as one horse pulls 8-10 people up a hill for about 2-3 mile. Plus the same horse is used all night. I'm sure this wouldn't be allowed in England.
Perhaps one of the best resaurants in Alykanas. The setting is so perfect, especially for us romantic people ! We ate there on 3 separate occasions and we could not fault the food, service or the price. On each of the 3 nights we picked meals from the "specials" menu", and were not disappointed. The red snapper fillet cooked in a kind of tomato ratatouille was something else ! On our first visit, the horse and cart was unable to get us back down to the new town due to the rain, so we were looked after by the staff with some local brandy - free of charge, until the rain went off and the horse was able to resume his duties once more ! A highly recommended restaurant.
We decided to eat here as it was our "Wedding Anniversary" and we wanted somewhere a bit special. We were not disappointed. We arrived by horse and carriage(the cart had just left so they called for a carriage for us)and from there it only got better. The service and food were excellent. The fish platter had a good variety of fish and was very tasty. Unfortunately it started to rain after we had finished our meal so we were liberally plied with free brandies until it stopped raining and the horse and cart could go again. Not many restaurants would have done this. They made our evening very special and for this we would recommend you visit.
Everyone says it is excellent because it is! have fish there because it is the best place to, and the setting is lovely. Spirios the horse man who drives you up is lovely, he let me drive his cart.
This restaurant is just simply too good to miss. We ate there several times during our two week stay and had excellent meals each time. We did not think it was anymore expensive than any of the other places we ate. The surroundings are wonderful and make for a lovely atmosphere
Great food in a great restaurant. Friendly staff and good prices. Horse and cart ride is a bonus because it is a very long hot climb from the village...I know cos I did it one afternoon !!!
Brilliant place
I cannot believe anyone would want to eat anywhere other than the Psaropoula (Lemon Tree Garden). Up in the olive trees, in the cool, towards the old part, next to the school (use the free horse and carriage that will take and return you from Alykanes). No gimmicks, no comedy waiters, no chucker in door men, no plastic pictures of plastic food, no leaflets, just exceptional food, with a varied menu, in spacious and pleasant surroundings with friendly professional waiters and waitresses (Chritos and Shoula)and all at the same price as in the town.
This place is the business. Very clean good food and the owner even drove us back to hotel.Owners girlfriend is a lovely english lass and looked after us very well.Highly recommended.
We went on a thursday night when they had a lady singing english and greek songs whilst playing a guitar.
A very enjoyable evening along with a lovely meal.
The restaurant also have a horse and cart which will bring you from Alykes/Alykanas and return you later for free.
This was our third visit to Zante, however the first time that we found this splendid restaurant. If you want to get away from the town and visit old alikanas then i suggest that you visit the psarapoyla known also as the lemon tree garden. The setting is beautiful away from the crowds, a true greek taverna which i am afraid to say that alot of the restauarnts sadly seem to have lost that feeling. We ate there 8 times out of the two weeks and had no problems with any of the food. My wife fond the prawns to die for.
The cost was not much different than other places that we ate, however a high quality taverna, well worth the higher cost of meals. You can depend on a lift back. Best restaurant in alikanas very highly recommended that you must pay a visit
The setting is great because you are away from the hustle and bustle. The food is on par with anything in Alykanas but I agree that on our second visit I was surprised at the size of the bill. Two starters, two main course, two Irish coffees and a half kilo of house wine, 41 euros. On checking it was probably correct.
Mike..... what on earth did the five of you eat to run up a bill of that much? We have 1 less child and our bill was about 27 Euros.
Went only once but left disappointed. The only plus point was a lovely garden. Unfortunately, the 83 Euro price tag for 2 adults and 3 kids seemed well over the top and more expensive than some much better restaurants around Alykanas.
never been but theo i hope your leg is better after your crash on the horses x x x
we ate here twice we got to it by horse and carriage and it is in a lovely setting which was what my husband Paul likes so much. the food was good, paul had mussels for a starter and it was very filling and looked lovely we had the red snapper for two and this was lovely and came with two lots of vegetables some salad and sliced fried potatoes very nice and plenty of it .the children loved the sparklers that came out lit with their ice cream a very enjoyable meal but not my favourite although it was Pauls.not the cheapest either and if you have a long way to come you are reliant on the hores and carriage to take you home and you could be in for a bit of a wait but if your not in any hurry and like nice suuroundings then why worry

This is by far one of the best tavernas in and around Alykanas. The food and sevice is second to none. Definitely 10/10!!
Just got back, and, as always, the food here was brilliant! For a special night, try Thursday, when Alicia sings - no charge!
Mark - As you walk into Alikanas from Elpida, turn right at Busters Bar, follow that road until you come to a T junction. Turn right, and the Lemon Tree (aka Psarapoula) is about 200 yards along on your right, next to the school an church.
LOVELY FAMILY RUN TAVERNA BY JIMMY, LISA,ZOE ANDSOULA. oUT OF THE WAY BUT WELL WORTH A VISIT
A WALK HOME WILL WORK ALL THE FOOD OFF.
IN OUR VIEW THE BEST RESTURANT IN ALIKANAS
LOOK FOR DIRECTIONS ON OLIVE TREES.
Wonderful warm friendly service - made a real fuss of the kids, especially our 9 month old son.
Food was always superb and the local wine too.
I'd would certainly recommend trying the tsatziki and the aubergine dip which comes with an unusual bread - delicious.
We stayed at the Elpida in Alykanas last summer and when we go this summer want to try other restaurants etc and so was wondering how do you get to the Lemon Tree or even Old Alykanas.
Have been visiting the Resort of Alykanas for four years now with my wife and have to say that this place has turned into a regular haunt on our holidays. Great food, and great service, whilst still maintaining the charm and charisma of Old Alykanas. My only worry is that it becomes too popular and turns a bit too commercialised, in a way this place is one of those gems that you want to keep to yourself.
The Psaropoyla is a little out of the way, but believe me this is the place to go. Me and my Husband ate here many nights, not only was the food out of this world the service and the surroundings were too. There are three areas to dine in, the garden which is surrounded with beautiful flowers and lemon trees. The outside on a patio and of course inside which has a good atmosphere aswell. I have to mention the toilets which are the best toilets i have ever seen in the past ten years we have been to Greece. Also i have to say about the food i had fish which was fresh and i picked myself, and my husband had lobster which he picked his self as well. I must say we enjoyed ourselves all the different nights we went here not once was we dissapointed.
