Hi Karen

Thank you - hope you have a lovely holiday. Look forward to hearing from you on your return.

Karen H

Hi there

We are going there this thursday (29th) so I will let you know how we find it on my return in a couple of weeks!  I was also a bit disappointed at all the extra costs so I will try let you know how much everything extra is too.

Ruth H

Hi. We are going to Koukounaria in September with our daughter who will turn two whilst we are there. Hope there is plenty for her to do. A bit gutted to hear about having to pay extra for so many important things which should be included - or highlighted when holiday is actually being booked. Also wondering whether anyone would be able to tell me of nearest doctor and hospital? We are arriving on September 14th for two weeks - wondering if busy this time of year still? Ruth

Hayley

Hi Karen,

I also have 3 children, they're aged 14, 11 and 3 and the older two pleaded with us to book again for the third year running !
Im sure you'll love the koukounaria [ just budget for the hire cost of appliances/air con] Of course you always meet the serial complainers on holiday who pick faults with just about everything and anything but we really cant fault the apartments or the resort.
Alykes isn't over 'touristy' which is why it's suited us since our youngest was one year old. You'll be hard pushed to find locals as friendly anywhere.
There is water sports on the beach and im sure there are also water sports in alykanas [ a short walk from alykes] although i stand corrected if im wrong !
The 3 pools in the Koukounaria are ideal for the kids although i dont think there are any tennis courts locally ? [ im not being much help here am i ?  ]
I would reccommend booking a day at the water park, there are plenty slides for the older ones and lots to entertain your youngest [ just pose when you're on the lazy river as photographs are taken when you dont realise and posted on a board for you to buy .... After bearing 3 children ....  mine was horrific !!
Anyway if i can be of any help you can mail me hayley1969@btinternet.com
enjoy your last  minute packing [ its frantic here !]

Hi

Just posting a reply for christine regarding the basement rooms.

We're returning for the 3rd year running on June 29 although we havent ever stayed in the basement rooms. One couple we spoke to paid to upgrade when they were placed in those rooms. From what i can remember them telling me there was no windows ? and there is no balancy but im sure you have a little patio area to the rear outside  where you can eat. I'll have a dig around some snap shots to see if i have any pics showing them as we were in that block but higher up last time. Im sure you'll really enjoy your holiday its a lovely clean friendly place

GREAT TWO WEEKS 04/05/2006-18/05/2006.

Apartments very clean, maid service every day, towels changed every other day, bedding changed once a week. Bar, cafe and pools excellent.
Only downfall was you have to hire kettle, toaster, safety deposit box,t.v's,fans and hairdryers at 3 euros per dayeach item.  Microwaves are 5 euros per day, and air conditioning is either 7.50 euros or 15 euros per day.
And you have to pay 80 euros deposit on arrival which is returnable on your last day. (this is in case of breakages or damage to apartment).

hello

i was just wondering about mario, i went there in may and he was lovely, but my friend went a couple of weeks ago and said he was horrible and ignored her all the time except on the first day.

i was just wondering if anyone knew anything about why he changed or anything?   please i would really like it

Neil T

Just returned home following a fantastic week with my wife and 2 kids (3 & 1). The apartments lived up to their reputation. I would definitely stay here again. The swimming pools are great!

For first time visitors you just need to get over the initial shock of having to pay for kettles, cots etc,etc.. and of course the £60 room deposit (this is ok though - I put it on the credit card and on leaving she ripped the slip up in front of me). Good location aswell - out of the main drag but only a few minutes walk away.
The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you.
Finally, the earthquake, which I believe was a 6.7 and the biggest for 3 years was interesting!! Our wardrobe nearly fell over and I believe bottles were falling off shelves in restaurants and supermarkets. I think there were 5 earthquakes over the 24 hours!!

See you all again soon.

Helena H

If anyone has a picture of Mario please put it on!!

Go to Greece

Its the best place ever!!!

Helena H

It was the best holiday that i have been on!!

Leo and Mario were soo fun!!

Mario was hot too!!

Everyone should go there, you will have a great time!!

Julie P

We have just come back from spending one week resting and chilling out in Alykes. It is perfectly located and the pool is lovely. Miri and Leo made everyone feel so welcome and were very entertaining. I understand some people have a problem with the basement rooms, we were lucky as we had a pool view and a massive room (there was only 2 of us but you could have slept 5 in our room). I do think it is a con that you have to pay for Kettle, toaster etc. I took my own kettle and that worked OK. They have got good facilities for children too (2 smaller pools for kids) and also a play area near the sun loungers.

Fantastic week and we would go back.

I stayed with my 7 year old daughter sister and mother 13th august

we had an excellent holiday, really didn't understand all the negative comments at all that i read before we left and made me quite nervous, but what a holiday, there is plenty to do, the beach is divine with a great bar Buca Bar on sea front, koukounaria was excellent with both sea, mountain and pool views, ahd the times of our life my daughter had a great time at the pool, and not to mention the blues bar, miri really knows how to run the place and keep the customers real happy and entertained couldn't imagine anyone else doing his job, leo is just gas altoghether  and both leo and miri like to have a good laugh off at us irish and dennis always makes sure everyone is just doin alrite,

def going back next year

we are staying here from the 3rd august for 2 weeks (cant wait) we are staying in a 5 bedroom apartment does anyone know if these are the ones that people have mentioned that are in the basement (if so i will be gutted) or are they on the higher floors with balconys (main part of hol is sitting on baloncny in evening when kids are asleep having a nice lonnngg cold drink). also how long does it take to walk from hotel to beach. Thanks for your help ( 5 days and counting)

Kirstie G

Me and my Family loved Koukounaria and so does everyone who stays there.. we will be back in3 weeks

Mary C

We are going to Koukounaria in July, have seen good and not so good reviews. We will be taking a 4year old. No mention of kiddies playground does anyone know if there is one? Also could we get away with taking our own kettle ?

Laura M

im really missing u all, especially mario,

i really enjoyed myself there all the staff are really friendly and you really get to know them. i will definatly be visiting that place over and over again.

i hope to see you all in september, so mario you better be there

Katie G

Been back 7 times in the past 5 years and made lots of friends in alykes. Will be visiting again in july and cant wait. The surroundings in which the hotel is situated are perfect and the rooms and everywhere are clean but quite basic (As are most places in Greece). The staff and the Lattas family are very friendly and just add to the fun of the holiday and there are plenty of places to eat in Alykes. Generally a great place to go!

Lisa

Location was perfect, lovely setting, peaceful environment and the room we had was spacious and lovely and clean,

now the negatives,
-this place is a complete rip off!

Supposedly self catering for a family of five, without even a Kettle!!!
So you needed to pay for hire of a kettle, a toaster, a safe, air-con, TV etc etc we didnt realise till check out that you had to pay for it all (read the check-in literature carefully).
This is supposed to be self catering a kettle is a necesity.
They seem to be doing everything they can to make sure you have to eat at their snack bar, which we diliberatly didnt.
It seems to me that they try to keep their prices down for airtours and then ramp up the prices for the extra's when the tourists arrive, good business sense if you can get away with it.

I do Highly recommend the place apart from the negatives, just remember to budget for all those extras.

Terry S

CONT 3 " but the owner "mr lattas "fixed it personally after 2 days.but dont worry he told my wife if anything had have been stolen he would have replaced everything. so as well as vast ammounts of money ( conned out of guests )mr lattas had holiday tickets and passports !!what a guy !!!!have a good holiday but remember the old saying " BEWARE OF GREEDY GREEKS "
beware of the following rooms 305 to 308 (cellar rooms ) rooms 302 to 304 and 312 to 314 (balconys but vuiw of very scruffy area under pool ) 301 311 as before as well as old pallets and dumped old cars and general rubbish that the lattas family cant see from their rooms ... thats all , i must get on to bbc watchdog !!!!!

Terry S

CONT ,,A NICE LITTLE PROFIT FOR THE HOTEL.during our holiday we spoke to 15 couples ,only 3 were happy with there rooms the rest paid up .so before we had unpacked the hotel had taken over half our spending money . room 300 , safe 42 ,kettle 30 toaster 30 (i thought this was self catering )over 400 euros and we had just arrived !!!!
dont get me wrong you can have a good holiday here ,some people dont realise whats going on here .also watch out for the safe dep boxes ours fell off the wall just missing my wifes foot ! even the talented leonardo could not refix it to the hollow plasterboard wall.

Terry S

we arrived at the hotel on the 8th september 2004.while we waited to check in three couples from a previous flight were complaning about their alloted rooms.good start we thought , so we asked for a good room with a nice veiw . we were given the key to room 305 , we left our cases in reception and went to have a look.it was a room under the snack bar / behind the pool it had 1 door ,no windows and no ventilation .patio ? balcony ? you must be joking weve got a better garage at home ! back to reception where we are told no other airtours roooms are available , but we could have a ""private "" room for an extra 300 euros for two weeks .
and so the SCAM was reveild , 5 couples in two hours were shown cellar rooms and all paid 150 per week extra ( 3 couples being shown room 305 )we comlained to our rep anne ,nice lady - rubbish rep she said we either had to pay up or go back in the cellar.

Lydia

The hotel was excellent and the staff were very friendly we had such a great time and will probably be back next year. the Blues bar was great. Was good to meet Leonardo 1 and 2 mario and toni hope to see you next year.

My family and I stayed here recently, June 2004, we loved it and would definitely stay their again. Very clean, spacious apts, brilliant location, short walk to the beach, very close to restaurants, bars and shops. The pool area is great, nice snack bar, they do lovely cappucinos! we thought it was reasonably priced. We tried nearly all the restaurants and the only one which I would'nt recommend is Fantasia, all the rest were really nice. We went on a Jeep Safari which we booked through one of the tour reps in the town, Spring Tours I think, it was fantastic and I would definitely recommend it, we took our two children who are 9 and 4 and they loved it, we saw most of the island this way including the ship wreck, typical Greek villages, historical sites and a place called the Blue Lagoon which is breathtaking. The beaches are lovely, very safe for young children.

Does the KouKounaria Apartments supply cots and if so is there an extra charge?

Anthony M

we are staying here in late may /early june with our 1 year old - it seems a child friendly resort - am i right? does the koukounaria provide a cot? any recommendations for restaurants?

Jenny E

Arrived back on Wednesday after 2 weeks in the sun, had a lovely time the staff were great although anyone with teenage daughters should keep an eye on them, there a couple of young greek lads working/living at the hotel who like holiday romances with the girls! The rooms were a good size and were cleaned everyday, my only complaint is that when there is five of you sharing a room one toilet roll doesnt last very long. The pool was a good size and there is plenty of room to lounge around the pool in the sun. The Rep. well she gave us the wrong time for the welcome meeting, so we missed that. But she made no effort to seek us out to see if everything was ok. We then decided stuff them and we booked our trips through a tour operator in the town. If anyone is thinking of going to the new water village please, please, please dont go, it is a dangerous place to vist (the rides are ok) but the paths that you use to get around the park are always wet and very, very slipery (caused many people to slip) you cant have fun there as you are constantly worrying about safety. I nominate the Relax restaurant for evening meal. The food and service was excellent and a very good place to people watch, my kids enjoyed watching Yannis with his "i'll be back" and "Asta La Vista Babe" very enjoyable. All in All a very good holiday

Lynne R

Just arrived home from 1 week holiday. We had a wonderful time. However, I can relate to the sharp corners in the jaccuzzi and the miserable rep. But apart from that it was ace. Would definetly love to go back. The Iris bar across the road was excellent, and eating in Relax and Olympic was brill too. The Apollo in the next village, Yiannis (I'll be back!), was please to take us, and it was v entertaining, what a character he is!

Trevor J

just arrived back to the uk and found that after two weeks i did managed to really enjoy myself. the day of arrival was very off putting due to the airport size and just the one luggage collection point, with three - six aircraft landing one after another it becames quite a nightmare. i believe we was waiting for the luggage the same time it took us to get from luton airport to zanti airport. after getting to the hotel, we found ourself given a couple of a4 sheets with some rules about using appliances and hiring of tv kettles and other remotes that run the a/c, which was very expensive. 3e for a kettle to 7e for air con per day. it also explained that use of your own kettle or other appliances may be liable for charge in use of electric. i found out this has been poorly written and doesn't really mean this at all. appliances that are your own property are not charged for electric, but only for appliances hired from else where other than the hotel is chargable.

the other thing when you first arrive, you need to place a deposit down of 80e which is return on departure. i found it was easier to use credit card for this purpose as they hold the receipt until you leave which is destroyed when you hand the keys back.

now that most of the negatives out the way.. the good points are the swimming pool which is very clean and well maintained. although there are some sharp edges which could be a hazard so recommend caution. although there is anti slip tiles around the perimeter. i found the the hotel location not to far from the beach but it is about 10 minutes walk down a small incline from the hotel. the people who work at the hotel are very friendly and like to mix in with people staying at the hotel. pete the night**tch at reception is also very helpful and seems to know alot about the island and gives good advice on where to go if not sure, although you can only find him after 12 midnight to 8am. he will even tell you a good story about things that go on about the island.

the blues bar seem to be a good place to hangout too if wanting to stay in than rather walking into the village at night. mir the barstaff will always keep you entertained with his wit and larking about. you have to watch your back sometimes he will catch you out if you are not watching.

the hotel owners are very friendly and will make sure that are no problems whilst you are on holiday.

you can find the hotel details on the web site too.

Just came back from koukounaria apartments 27th August. Had a brilliant holiday, very friendly staff, nice clean apartments,Excellant for children.Would definately go back in the next few years.

Amanda H

WE STAYED AT THE KOUKOUNARIA APARTMENTS BETWEEN 240703 AND 070803 AND HAD A FABULOUS HOLIDAY.
THE APARTMENTS: PLENTY OF ROOM FOR A FAMILY OF 4 IN THE ONE BEDROOMED STUDIOS.THE BINS ARE EMPTIED DAILY, FRESH TOWELS EVERY 3 DAYS AND CLEAN BEDDING WEEKLY.MINIMUM COOKING FACILITIES BUT SUFFICIENT FOR A HOLIDAY.ONLY ONE MOAN, 1 TOILET ROLL FOR A FAMILY OF 4 FOR 2 WEEKS!
THE SNACKBAR:REASONABLE PRICES, COMPETATIVE WITH ALL THE BARS IN THE LOCATION.A LARGE SELECTION OF CHILLED DRINKS (1.60 EUROS FOR A TIN OF POP), ICES AND BEER SERVED IN ICED GLASSES( 2.50 EUROS FOR A PINT). THE FOOD IS FRESHLY PREPARED AND MY CHILDREN THOROUGHLY ENJOYED EVERYTHING THEY SAMPLED.THERE IS A TV OFFERING UP TO DATE SKY NEWS, AND FOOTBALL UP DATES (WHICH WERE ESSENTIAL TO MY HUSBAND AND SON). THE ONLY FAULT IS THERE IS A MONKEY IN A CAGE IN THE SNACKBAR AREA, AND THIS GIVES OFF A STRONG SMELL, SO MY ADVICE ALWAYS EAT OUTSIDE OR WELL AWAY FROM THE CAGE.
THE POOL:LARGE AND CLEANED DAILY, WATCH OUT FOR THE SHARP CORNERS IN THE JACUZZI.
THE BLUES BAR;LARGE AND COMFORTABLE, OFFERING COMPETATIVELY PRICED DRINKS AND A GOOD MUSIC SELECTION ON A LARGE SCREEN.
THE RECEPTION:HELPFUL, PLEASANT AND INFORMATIVE STAFF, AVAILABLE 24 HOURS. MONEY EXCHANGE AT THE SAME RATE OFFERED WITHIN THE RESORT.UPON ARRIVAL YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE YOUR CASE FROM THE ROADSIDE TO THE RECEPTION FOR YOUR ROOM ALLOCATION, THERE IS A VERY SLIGHT INCLINE, BUT THERE ARE PLENTY OF STAFF AT THE HOTEL WHOM WILL COLLECT YOUR CASE, JUST ASK.
THE STAFF:SPECIAL THANKS TO MIR, LEONARDO 1 AND 2 AND MARIO, WHOM WERE ALWAYS SMILING AND MADE A GREAT FUSS OF MY CHILDREN.DO GO TO THE BBQ NIGHT IT IS GREAT FOOD AND THE GREEK DANCERS MAKE YOU FEEL INVOLVED.
DO TRY THE CAKES, TRIFLES AND CHEESECAKES FROM THE MONTES BAKERY TO THE REAR OF THE APARTMENTS, THEY ARE WONDERFUL MMMMM.
WATCH OUT FOR THE ROAD THERE ARE NO FOOTPATHS AND SOME VEHICLES GO AT SPEED.
SPECTACULAR SCENERY SURROUNDING THE HOTEL.
THE BEACH IS A VERY SHORT WALK FROM THE APARTMENTS AND I CAN RECOMMEND THE WATERSPORTS AS A FUNTIME ACTIVITY, ESPECIALLY THE RINGOS,ALTHOUGH YOU MAY BE SORE IN THE MORNING!
YES YOU DO HAVE TO PAY FOR AIR CONDITIONING, KETTLES, TOASTERS AND SAFETY DEPOSIT BOXES, BUT IF YOU HAVE READ THE COMMENTS YOU ARE PREPARED FOR THE COSTS, I NEVER GOT CHARGED FOR MY HAIRDRYER.
HAVE A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY!

Michael B

JUST RETURNED FROM 2 WEEK STAY.HAD AN ABSOLUTE MARVELOUS TIME,PLACE VERY CLEAN,SNACK BAR AND BAR PRICES VERY REASONABLE,RECEPTIONISTS JACQUI + INGA VERY HELPFUL AND MIA,LEONARDO{BUSY MAN} AND MARIO ALL MADE OUR STAY FUN.

our holiday is getting nearer and i was wondering if there are towels provided in the apartments? as i can see there is alot of things that you have to hire can you get away with using your own kettle, hairdryer etc..

Nicki R

We came back on the 16th July and didn't have a very good experience staying at the Koukounaria.

At first we were put in a room under the hotel with no windows, it could have been snowing outside and once we closed our door we wouldn't have known!! We had to pay 250 Euros to move to a better room which was a private apartment.

Beware that you have to pay more than a local charge as quoted in the brochure for most things. Air conditioning is 83 euros for 2 weeks, safety deposit 72 euros for 2 weeks, a kettle is 3 euros per day and so is a toaster and a TV is even more than that. What is worse is that you are told when you arrive that you will be provided with 1 toilet roll then you must buy your own!!

Considering the accommodation is self catering you aren't able to eat your own food around the pool and the snack bar isn't very cheap at all.

The pool area is very nice and the views into the mountains are fantastic, it is in a very nice location but unfortunately that was it really.

As for the friendly locals, on the day we left 4 parties complained about young boys letching over their daughters around the pool, it really was disgusting.

We loved the resort, but certainly won't be going back to the Koukounaria!!

Finally beware of the Airtours rep, she was awful, miserable and very negative. She really didn't seem interested in speaking to anyone and would avoid it if she could!!

The L

Just got back from there and were so impressed we had to leave a comment right away. Terrific place - lovely and clean with very friendly and helpful staff (even including Jacqui who can be very patronising to customers and comes across like an old school mistress). Ideal location, great facilities and the lads around the pool made our two boys feel very welcome.

Joe D

We stayed at the Koukounaria Apts in September 2001 and we are returing again this September. The room was spacious, the staff excellent and we were made to feel most welcome. I booked directly with them on-line and booked my flights sperately on line also.
For anyone wanting a quiet, relaxing carefree holiday -this is the place.

Suzy C

arrived back yesterday, loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!! the hotel was brill nice and quite! (i was in the quiet side) didnt like that had to pay for everything but i found out not hotels fault, airtours or your booking company only rent the basic room off the hotel, they ask for nothing to be added so we have to pay, even toilet roll!,if you book direct with the hotel you save £££££££££££££££££ big time,i payed airtours for my 8month baby to come and even had to rent a cot, other than that hotel very very clean, staff were just brill,i couldnt have asked for a better place to take my family, and me and my family are going back again!

Susan M

We arrived to be dropped off on the road at Lofos Tavern were we had to drag our cases up the small hill to the Reception. We knew there would be a charge for air con but told it would be double as there were two units in our apartment 83 euros for 1 week.We then had to pay 21 euros for the safe key for 1 week. You could also hire a Kettle, toaster, hairdryer and microwave. We had asked for twins beds before we arrived (mum with me)there was a double so when I went back to reception I was given two single sheets and a pillowcase to make up my own bed in the kitchen. The apartment had two rings for cooking only. 1 pan and a frying pan.We were given two hand towels a bath mat and two bath towels which were to last us all week, we washed them ourselves. Bedlinnen the same. 1 toilet roll for the week. We left a spare one in the safe for the next people. Happy hour was 6 - 9.30 we purchased two martini and lemonade £6.00 which tasted very weak. The pool was great and the people were friendly. On the way home we again had to drag our cases up the brew and down to the road my mum is 70.The apartments were probably at one time really nice but after years they were now starting to look as though they needed a facelift. They advertised 4 stars on their sign but I would have rated them as 3 star only.

Jane M

We spent 2nd week of May 2003 here, 1st time for us, and we loved it. Apartment was clean and spacious, as was the rest of the hotel, the ownly downside was the peacocks - would someone please shoot them!
I was glad I checked out this site before we went - because we knew about the deposit and hiring of equipment it wasn't a shock to us and it was fine. Although we had a heatwave we found we didn't need the air-conditioning and the only thing we hired was a kettle - we ate fresh stuff for breakfast and ate out the rest of the time.
Never used the pool or bars here - they seemed over-priced compared to those in the village. We preferred the beach too, though you had to pay 7 euros for the beds and umbrella.
Must say, though, the rep we had with My Travel was absolutely miserable!!!! she did nothing but moan from the moment she arrived for the welcome meeting - talk about trying to put people off!

Laura N

We have just come back from our first stay in the Koukounaria apartments. They are named this after the large fir tree in the grounds - the "Koukounaria Tree". The staff were extremely polite and helpful, the hotel in general was fantastic, the room was large and spacious with a very modern kitchen and very large refrigerator! There was only two of us staying, but we got a double apartment (suitable for 4 people) which had seperate ensuite bedrooms and two balconies overlooking the pool. As everyone else seems to have mentioned, the peacocks and cockerels were extremely frustrating at 5.00am, and as it was 96 degrees most days, we had to leave the balcony door open at night (resulting in lots of mosquito bites too...) It is just a short walk to the beach, but is far enough away from the other bars to have a relatively peaceful nights sleep. The pool was lovely, especially at sunset when it was cooler - nice after a hard days sunbathing!

Julie N

We stayed last May and I used my own hairdryer and travel kettle without being charged. Our apartment was spacious and clean the only drawback being that it was under the hotel and had no windows, except the one in the door, or air con. We had asked for a pool view and balcony!! There are also peacocks in the olive grove behind the hotel which are very noisy day and night. The beach is sandy with a small strip of pebbles just as you go in the water. It is great for kids as the sea is really shallow for a long way out. There are 3 pools at Koukanaria, a kids pool, a jacuzzi pool (which is disappointing) and the main pool which is great.

Clare P

we are a party of 10 plus a baby. can anyone tell us are the apartments spacious enough for us all? is the beach sandy and does the childrens pool have easy access?

Julie A

hi jenny have you found out yet about the hairdryers yet or about anything else we can and cant use and how much because i havent thanks julie

Julie A

hi we are going to the koukounaria in june and im getting very worried with all the extra costs can any one tell me how much the air con is and can i use my own hairdryer thankyou

Jenny E

Have booked to stay at Koukounaria apartments in sept 2003. Although I can see from various comments that the majority of people enjoyed their stay, what i would like to know is when people say everything electrical has to be hired what does this include i.e can we take our own hairdryer, kettle, iron etc... and do they really fine you if you choose to use your own electrical things? Also does anyone know if you still have to buy their drinks and snacks at the poolside.

Mark J

it was fun and a frendly place good stuff

Joanne M

The hotel was really nice- apart from having to hire out anything. Claire did i meet u there?????

Claire J

Me and my mum and dad went to the koukounaria apartments this year and last year for 2 weeks and my mum and dad are go next year to the same place.

Dale C

HAVING JUST COME BACK FROM 2 WEEKS HOLIDAY AT THE KOUKOUNARIA WITH MY FAMILY,(2 GIRLS, 11 AND 10 AND A BOY 6) WE HAVE A GOOD IDEA WHAT THE APARTMENTS ARE ALL ABOUT. THE PICTURESQUE SETTING AMONG THE PINE TREES,THE SOFT CALLING OF THE DOVES,THE CRICKETS MERRILY CHURPING AWAY, THE MOUNTAIN SIDE FIRE,THE BUZZING OF THE PLANES AND HELICOPTER PUTTING THE FIRE OUT,(GOT SOME GREAT PICTURES),THE SHORT WALK TO THE SMALL, BUT NICE BEACH, AND THE SPACIOUS APARTMENT (NO 109) MADE IT TO BE AN ALMOST PERFECT BASE FROM WHICH TO THE SEE THE OTHER SIGHTS OF THE ISLAND. THE ONLY DOWN WAS THE BANANA BOAT RIDE THAT MY FAMILY AND SOME FRIENDS TOOK FROM THE BEACH. RIDING THE BANANA IS FUN,FALLING OFF WASN'T,ARMS,LEGS EVERYWHERE.MY WIFE GOT KICKED AND COULDN'T WALK PROPERLY FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS,(NOT MUCH FUN). HOWEVER HAVING STAYED IN OTHER PARTS OF THE ISLAND WE WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE KOUKOUNARIA APTS.ALL THE STAFF WERE VERY HELPFUL AND LEONARDO THE GUY WHO HELPED AROUND THE PLACE WAS THE CHILDRENS FAVOURITE. WE WILL BE GOING BACK NEXT YEAR.

We had a studio apartment and is was very spacious and clean. The pool was big compared to others that we saw around Alykes. The views are superb and the location is very quiet. However... don't like the fact that you have to pay extra for air con, 3E per day for a kettle, 2Eper day for a toaster, 3E per day for a TV and a £50 deposit against breakages. Also, any other electical equipment must be hired from reception or else you will pay a £10 per item fine!!!!! We weren't aware of any of these extras and we decided to only have the air con. The view of all people that we spoke to was if it is self-catering then these things should be provided. The snack bar prices are very high (1.5E for bottle of water when you can buy 6 for 1.5E at the supermarket). You are not supposed to take your own refreshments poolside. The other problem was that this was the worst place for people reservinbg sun loungers all day even though the rules say that you shouldn't leave towels behind when you leave the poolside. It was worse than the Germans. The reception staff are very friendly and we did like the place really. I just think that there are a few rough edges to be sorted out. We would all like to go back.

The Koukounaria apartments were brilliant great pool and loads of people there to make friends i made Declan,John,Graig,Zack, and David!Be aware that you have to pay to get things like Kettles and air conditioning and microwave and blankets all about 3 euro a day. Also if you want something comfy to lay on you have to buy a matress(very comfy but 1.50 euro per day!)But I would advise you to hire a jeep or a car if you do go to Alikes rentals!(very cheep). The pool has a diving board a jaquzzi that wasn't that good and a baby pool along with the big brilliant pool!Apartments clen and tidy maids unfiendly but over all a brilliant holiday! You have to meet Pi Pi the Monkey and Mia that says "number 2 please".

Ian L

Very clean place. Shame that you have to pay for Kettles, toasters and air con. Thankfully they had an offer for the air-con 91 euros for 2 weeks.Swimming pool very nice.

Carol B

THE APARTMENTS ARE FAB,BUT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT WHAT YOU HAVE TO PAY OUT BEFORE YOU GO UNPACK YOUR SUITCASE.TOASTERS,KETTLES,FANS,MICROWAVES,TV AND THE MOST EXPENSIVE THE AIR CONDITIONING.DON'T LEAVE THE WINDOWS OPEN AT NIGHT,HIRE A FAN OR AIR CON.MY KIDS GOT EATEN ALIVE SHARING A TOTAL OF 239 MOSI BITES .MIAR WAS SUPERB HE WORKED IN THE SNACK BAR AND BLUES BAR 7 DAYS A WEEK,BUT HE WAS ALWAYS SMILING AND PLAYING JOKES.YOU HAVE TO LEAVE A 50 QUID DEPOSIT AT RECEPTION,BUT GET IT BACK WHEN LEAVING IF YOU DON'T BREAK ANYTHING.THE STAFF IN RECEPTION ARE LOVELY AND EVEN THOUGH YOU HAD TO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY BEFORE YOU HIT THE POOL, I WOULD VISIT AGAIN.

Alvin B

An absolutely fantastic holiday. The place was clean and the people were very friendly. Only complaint was that you had to hire kettles, toasters, or air con', and I thought they were expensive (175 euro for two weeks air con').Zante is not as cheap as some people were telling us. You have to put down a £50 deposit at the beginning of your stay there, and by the time you've hired your kettle etc and paid your deposit a large chunk of spending money has gone!.Definately going back, one of our best holidays ever.

Stayed in Kookounaria in July 2001, room 333 whcih was a studio. We have 2 girls who were aged 6 and 9 and it was fine for the four of us. In fact it was the most spacious studio we have ever stayed in (in Greece). It was immaculate inside and out, and apart from being woke by the peacocks at the back, it was quiet at night with very little disturbance from surrounding bars. Situated up the hill from the crossroads at Alykes which was fine on the way to the beach, not so good walking back though!! Overall a fabulous place to stay, excellent pool etc., although prices in the bar are pretty expensive - go elsewhere for a night out!!

Hi everyone, We stayed at the koukounaria appartments last July, before I tell my saga I,d like to say they where the cleanest place we've stayed..... apart from mega RAT! We had a one bedroom top floor appartment with stunning views of the hills, there was 5 in our party, 3 kids, 2 adults. the appartment was as I've said very clean and spacious. It had a weird arrangement with the door key, it also doubled up as the electrics they don't work if you dont put your key on a daft magnetic thing on the wall..saves the enviroment I suppose. The appartments have a lovely pool this also was clean due to them dropping sacks of chemicals into it at night, my bikin's where threadbare by the end of the two weeks. Take plenty of cash as the drinks are very expensive, nearly a £1 for pop! they will tell anyone off for consuming anything not bought at the pool bar so be warned, oh and don't try to rent any fans from anywhere but the reception as the small french woman (receptionist) will go mad, you have to rent their's or have the air conditioning.. We got this free due to our furry vistor! it came up the drain pipe and hopped through the kitchen window. One last word of warning DON'T let your kids wander go around the back of the appartments as my eldest daughter fell down a 12ft drop into the ajoining field- we thought she'd broken her back, and it took three very nice local lads to haul her back to safety.. it was at night, pitch black and there was no lighting or barriers to stop her falling, SO BE WARNED! I have to add the manager was very concerned and promised to sort the problem out. Oh and watch out for the bolts that stick up near the jaccuzi my hubby nearly sliced his toes off! also keep your eyes on your camera etc because we left it in the bar one night, we asked for it the next day and all the staff said they hadn't seen it, but low and behold one of our kids saw one of the bar staff with it, after much persuasion he gave it back. When we had the film developed there was more photos of the appartment staff than our family! Bet you all think our holiday was a disaster, well even though we had a few little drama's we still managed to enjoy our time in Alykes, so dont be put off, Zante is lovely and I'm sure most people will manage to stay out of trouble! I hope my tale is usefull.

someone asked whether studios are OK for family of 4. Have just booked one as that was only availability, and would be grateful to hear what was the reply!

Gina M

It was our first visit to Zante and we can't wait to go back. The staff were great, very freindly thank God for Pedro, he is the life and soul. The pool area was great, it has three, the jaquzi is great for the less confident swimmer. The room was spacious & spotless with maid service every day. What more can I say, these are the apartments to stay at we shall be back there this year in fact we are meeting up with freinds we made there last year. BRILLIANT

excellent accomodation so clean and modern having not been to greece before was warned it could be basic but it was not. lovely pool and a good breakfast in the snack bar only 5 mins from bars and the beach A GREAT HOLIDAY WE WILL BE BACK !!

Glen W

What a great place, real value for money, nice people, excellent snack bar(thanks to Maria the cook), Peter on the bar is a nice guy (he is an Albanian)geting wed to Cheryl next Oct.Thanks to all for a great 2 weeks.

The whole complex was first class. It is just out of the town which makes it very quiet, but only 5 minutes walk from the town centre (even quicker if you cut through the back route). Our one bedroom apartment was very spacious and the facilities were fine. Large fridge-freezer, basic 2 ring stove. No kettle provided, but we just use a saucepan! They also charged extra if you wanted to use the air conditioning. The pool is large and clean and a good temperature with plenty of sun beds. I thought that it was abit of a cheek to charge £1 a day for a matress for the sun bed. We found the food good from the snack bar. Overall excellent and I would have hestitation in recommending it.

Mealeys

The studio for 4 was very spacious, and spotlessly clean. In fact everywhere in the Koukounaria complex was clean and well kept. The snack bar food was excellent (especially breakfast) and reasonably priced! Drinks were a bit more pricey in the bar than in the resort, but we thoroughly enjoyed everything about our holiday at this excellent Hotel and resort!!!

EXCELLENT HOLIDAY 1st CLASS APARTMENTS LOVELY RESORT YANNIS & HIS FAMILY MADE OUR HOLIDAY ONE TO REMEMBER VERY FRIENDLY STAFF ESPECIALY PEDRO ONCE SEEN OR SHOULD I SAY HEARD NEVER FORGOTTEN THANKS AGAIN FOR A WONDERFULL HOLIDAY HOPEFULLY BE BACK NEXT YEAR. THE McDONALD FAMILY 335

Philippa S

The apartment was excellent - clean and very spacious. We had a problem with a leaky bathroom ceiling when it rained, but luckily it doesn't rain too often on Zakynthos during summer! It's a good job, because the management were a bit hopeless at sorting out such problems! The pool was very good and the apartments are only 5-10 minutes walk from the beach/resort centre/supermarkets etc. I would certainly consider staying there again if we ever return to Alykes.

Have had a mare with the holiday company.Help required. They have booked me and my family ( wife and 2 kids aged 9 and 4)into a studio instead of an apartment. Can anyone tell me what the studios are like and are they suitable for a family. Thanks.
