glad to hear that george will be back this year as i missed him heaps last year but kim, i am gutted that you wont be there, what am i going to do without you!!!!  i am coming out on holiday on 27th august for 2 weeks so if you manage to have a little holiday i think you should have it then!!!!!

Wonderful, wonderful, great, marvellous.  Yes you're right - we liked it.

Everyone was so friendly and the staff seemed to be really enjoying themselves and, when not serving drinks, juggling, fire-eating, fire-dancing and generally entertaining their customers.  They quickly learnt what you were drinking and free shots were often coming round.  The music was great too.  Particular thanks to Kim and Buss - you were terriffic.  My husband particularly enjoyed arm-wrestling (oh dear) but I am sure you were gentle on him and let him win, not that he will have any of that.

If we ever come back to Kalamaki we would make a bee-line for your bar.  Thanks for great evenings.

We have jsut returned from Kalamaki and I have to say there is no other bar that beats Down Under.  Your made to feel welcome as soon as you walk in (usually from flying ice cubes ) and the musics great!

as a person who actually worked for down under last season, i would just like to say to all tourists wondering if they should visit down under.... don't listen to the crap f**kwit comments. it's the best bar in kalamaki. you will be well looked after, you will get drunk and you will get the chance to call nick 'wiggy' the family and staff all work their a**es off and it deserves the reputation as being the best.

well said george.i worked in down under for 2 years and not once did i see or hear of any drugs being used or sold.it saddens me to think people are saying this,so george has gone back to oz for a while and not in prison as was suggested,he has many friends and family there and can visit them when ever he wants to.the rest of the family are working extra hard to try and make peoples holidays as memorable as possible and are doing a very good job at it.i hope people will stop spreading these lies and let the whole family get on with entertaining you.hope to see you soon george take care mate

I would like to respond to pete williams comment and ask him who asked him to leave that comment, i've been coming to kalamaki for a number of years and have frequented down under among many other bars. I have never seen any evidence of drug taking in down  under inside or out. I remain in contact with the family and email george in australia (not prison) regularly. Perhaps people should talk to the family and find out the truth before they bad mouth the bar. Down unders staff work very hard to make peoples holidays great as do most other bars i have been to in kalamki. If its not your cup of tea i suggest you visit another bar because there are very many cool places in kalamaki, i would recommend it to anybody, leave laganas to laganas and don't let kalamaki go down with that ship.

Oh my gosh!! wot can i say, i loved this bar!! This has to be the best bar in kalimaki!!  All off the bar staff were excellent fun and loved to provide a gr8 night of entertainment for all of their customers! Me and my mates made sure that we visited this bar every night without fail for the whole two weeks we were there, it was such a gr8 fun place to be, after midnight, probably more preferable for the 18-30 stylie ppl! lol! If you go to kalamaki, make sure you visit this bar...its gr8!

My boyfriend and I spent 2 weeks in Kalamaki in June and we ventured to this fabulous bar every night what can we say the people,the music,cocktails were absolutely fabulous!!!!

what can i say?????? absolutely amazing, the best bar/club in kalamaki. we've been to all the others as well but there was something about this bar that we just couldnt resist it. i think is the people that make it sooooo special, so cozy they make u feel so welcome and so at home. Such a great and lively place! The bar staff are crazy!! They have theme nights too and they all dress up. One even breaths fire if you ask him nicely! Had too many sambucas one night though - they fill your glass up very generously you could say   Huge cocktail menu too! Great place!

Hey you guys, i'm getting the impression from peoples messages that down under have their own website - what is it?

I went to Kalamaki with 5 of my friends (welshies)at the end of August - we had an amazing time their, the island is lovely, the weather was gorgeous, everyone is friendly and the alcohol is always flowing - what more could a group of girls want?

Down under bar just topped off our evenings we'd usually go there for a few drinks or may be a few more after eating out or before treking down to Laganas - although some of you may remember us by our group antics to earn us all a down under t-shirt - well worth it!!

Hello to all the bar dudes!! Kim is ace, i hope the phone credit came in useful (note to all, you can't top up English phones with Euros, der)!
Andonis is nice, thinks he is summit special but you laugh with him, not just at him!!

i have just returned home from a relaxing week in zakynthos with my wife Sandra, celebrating our retirment. On the last night my wife was suffering from a stomach upset so i wonderd out for a quiet drink solitaire and ended up in down under. For the record i did not particiapte in any of the dancing shaking activities.
i did end up seeing the love of my life at first sight.

hi guys its great to see you have a website. heres hoping you look to see what hits you get and the comments that are made. for me this was a great experience coming to the bar and very enjoyable evenings were had by the whole family. there are not many people that can keep my kids awake until 2 in the morning without them being grumpy. on the contrary both danielle and chloe were gutted each evening when it was time to leave. how about getting a live web cam so we can keep up with whats going on in down under. karl you are so cool, nick love the aussie accent, and andonis does a great sex on the beach. have some shots in our memory. all the best for the future with the bar. maybe we will meet again some sunny day. from tracey, phil, danielle and chloe xxx

george, do you work at the down under bar? if you stopped the underage(i have nothing against 17/18 year olds using your bar has i understand it does appeal to them,) but what i found disturbing was the 12/13 year olds drinking and flaunting themselves in the down under bar,that is what put me off visiting it again. (i have been to Kalamki for 3 years running and spent many a happy night in the down under bar ). So maybe this year was a 1 off.it does have the best music (both before and after 12) but had too many youngsters (12/13).May i just say i found your comments very uncalled for.

I agree with them (as previous comments show) so I put my comment on stating that 'At last someone who agrees with me'. However today thier comments have dissappeared!!Do the staff at Down Under take all bad remarks off? Or are you not allowed to give honest opinions and have to say that every place is worth a visit. Hiya i was in kalamaki in may nd i thought down under was a wkd bar!!!Went every nite & the staff were very friendly espically andonis( he is friendly, flirty and fit!!)i made a few friends there lol! hopefully be bk next year! and recommend any1 who is goin 2 kalamaki 2 go 2 down under if they want a gd nite!

Jean. I totally understand your point of view and respect that you can have a civilised debate with me on this subject. Yes, you are certainly right when you say that young boys and girls are in danger of sexual situations, but that is surely not just in Down Under, not just in Zante but in every country which exists. Holidays do provide the capability of being able to pursue these "desires", but whether the teenagers choose to take this option is their decision. Down Under, as far as I can see, does not encourage sexual matters at all. Fair enough, they may squirt water up girls skirts and chuck ice down their tops, but they need to provide a service that people want and that will get people coming back and this is what teenage girls want. I am 18, and have to say, had to warn a bunch of 14 girls away from a crowd of greek boys who seemed intimidating, but the fact that they were out at 2-4am... well, isn't that the parents responsibility?

This is in response to Emma and Rosie. Rosie - good on you, I also like to have a good time after 12 and am probably older than you. Emma, glad to note you now understand the world from an older persepective. I am pleased you enjoyed yourself at this bar, I don't know how old you are and you may well be a very responsible young person. It was not the drinking as such that concerned me, and I did not see one fight - what I did see were young people putting themselves at risk of unwanted sexual advances and everything that follows on from this (boys and girls) I'm sure I don't have to spell it out to you. Just because there doesnot seem to be a legal age limit within the law on Zante does not make it morally right for grown ups to be serving alchoholic drinks to children. We are all as adults responsible for the safety and wellbeing of children so I feel entitled to have my opinion of this bar noted.

i thought that the down under bar was great, i had the best holiday ever, espesially when i meet andonis he is so fit. we are coming back next year on 14-06-2005, it is the best bar their.

Rosie. Ok, i apologise for slagging off your generation, but you have to admit, it IS pretty unusual for over 40s to go out clubbing. I just feel that you are being unfair in slagging the under 18s off for having a good time. Just because they got served drinks (as they would everywhere in Zante as I heard there isn't an age limit to drink), this doesn't mean they are going to get drunk off their faces every night and cause trouble. Me and my friend visited Down Under 12 nights out of 14 and only saw 1 fight and that was between two grown men in their 30s, so i think its unfair to point the finger at us. I'm sorry that you didn't have a good time and I'm sure the staff at Down Under are too, but that doesn't mean you have to penalise us or the bar staff for that - you make your own holiday!

Emma, for your information life does not finish at 40. Both my sister and I still enjoy going out and having a good time. We have visited Zante for 3 years on the trot now and spent most nights at this bar,and had some good times. My daughter came on holiday with us this year and was geared up for some good nights here, however how the place has changed since last year. Even my daughter who is 19 so still young, was quite disgusted with the way very under age people were easily getting drinks, and acting. This place is great until 12 midnight, then i suggest the more mature person (over 18s) finds other clubs.By the way both my sister and I are over 40 but not ready for the slippers and ovaltine brigade yet and in fact Emma we stayed out at other clubs till 4am!!!!!.

why do people come on here and totally slag everyone at down under off? if you didn't like it then fine, just say 'not my thing' and leave it at that. for you people who say "it was a right dive" or "there was nothing but underage people in there after 12" blah blah blah, firstly, how many 50 year olds do you know who party until 4 in the morning? and secondly, what exactly do u mean by underage? i don't see ANY bars in zante IDing people for drink?! get a life......

I find myself having to agree with the comments of Rosie Brown. The live music before 12 was very good, Tiffany's game was also good fun. Unfortunately this bar takes on a completely different character after 12. It changes from a good fun, family type of bar to a seedy, underage venue where young people under the influence of drink alongsde their raging hormones are putting themselves into risky situations - both boys and girls. I too have been witness to the driving skills(?!) of the red mini - didn't realise it was to do with the Down Under.

Obviously to enjoy this bar you have to have a very low IQ and not be able to spell!!!(look at last few comments).Does have some good live music but not worth the underage children pretending to be grown up,the dirty toilets, and the rude barman who drives a red mini(very fast, he thinks the road is a race track!).So advise to Kained and Able and XFactor find yourselves some different gigs!! If you are in Kalamaki with teenagers and think they will be safe here on their own then think again.

A few words to sum this bar up are:Rude, underage, a proper dive but does play good music shame about the member of staff who drives the little red mini!
I am a 19 year old girl and after 12 o'clock went for a dance once doors were closed on the first day of my holiday, i felt old in there. the average age of young girls in there was prob oly 15 and roughly same for boys i would say do NOT let your early teens go there by thereself unless they want to be leeched on by everyone.
Also if you do not like place dont tell bar staff as they are rude and clearly only care about making money and not about the safety or enjoyment of there customers
Would NOT recommend to anyone at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also toilets were the worst i saw when i was away and looked at 11 O'clock at night that they had not been cleaned for at least 48hrs!

i just arrived home from zakynthos yesterday with 5 friends. we had the best time and every evening was started of at down under. we met some great friends over there. proper f**ked crew if i get sent a bill for the writing on our wall then i am sending the bill 2 u. we were known as proper posh and got some down under t shirts printed. kim we would love 2 come back next year and hope everything goes ok with u no who, dont ask him to many questions

Been back in the UK for a month now but the week we spent in Kalamaki in June was fantastic. I think we ended up at Down Under most nights and it was brilliant, great music, dancing on the bar, fantastic cocktails (especially the barmans special) free drinks and plenty of laughs with the great staff. We are coming back next year and this time there will be even more of us (17 of us went this year). I'd advise anyone going to Kalamaki to go Down Under!

This is a definate must see place we LOVED IT here. We popped in every night on our holiday, the staff were great and the drinks were even better, especially the slippery nipples (thanks for them George!)

im very upset to see some of these comments, but i come back every year to the same place, i come to see all my friends.
george, nick and kym always look after me and my mum.
The only place that is dirty is the toilets but that is because the holiday makers have no respect.
The comment about parents letting their young teen ager out with a friend she met around the pool surprised me(what are you doing letting her out on her own for god sake) i think you will find that boys don't hit on girls unless they are provoked. i was in here everynight and have watched how girls dance around and behave.
at this time of year the island has more young holiday makers as it is the best time to party.
don't knock this place unless you have tried at least 7 bar/clubs on the island.

what a great time had by all in the proper f**ked crew, spent all of 12 out of 14 nites in there (causing mayhem like you should).
by far the best place in kalamaki second to none, all seven had the best nites in your bar and are looking forward to coming back in 2005 for another 2 weeks of madness. will definitely be keeping in touch building up to another major last night water fight with all the staff. will post the pics as soon as they are developed. to all those going in the near or far future, you must go to down under and give a massive shout to lyndsey (gareths niece!!! get in!!)

Hi, we stayed in kalamaki fromt the 2nd July to the 9th july. may i just say down under is great. the dj might remember me as the guy who was offering to strip on the bar for a "barmans special" as i didnt know if it was just females doing the stripping. Also as you can see, iv rated the coctails excellent as on one night i stayed i was sprayed with a red concuction out of a watergun (whilst wearing a white shirt)it never came out. all i know was that it was the crazy, dark-skinned bargirl. She was great. I WILL BE BAK IN 2005,

dave again i just want to inform of a suicidal drink which i invented called rocket fuel. it is made as so you mix 1 shot of absinth, 3shots of rum, vodka, bacardi, whisky, brandy, gin, and tequila whith 1shot of apple juice. have fun with it its f**kin' lethal.

Absolutley fantatstic times at this bar. We went there nearly every night and had a fab time with George, Nic, Kim, Gareth, Carl and Andonis. Watch out for George and his little ice tricks!!! Brilliant music by the resident welsh DJ although he didn't play enough Bon Jovi for my liking!!! Thanks to all as we had a fab time. Photos are on the way!!!

I loved down under. The bar staff were gr8, especially George. Great atmosphere and the bar staff even cooled you down with the occasional ice cube and water pistol fight. When i'm back in Zante i'll make down under my regular. Keep up the good work guys. Say hi to George and Dennis for me!

Martine I totally agree, the lads would do anyhting for anyone, and I dont mean that in a sexual nature. Greeks are all like it, they see a nice looking english girl and they think ooohhh!! The lads are amazing, and look after you 100%. I love them all to bits. 8 weeks to go :D

sorry to say this but the last 2 comments sound as if these people got jealous in one way or another, the down under guys are personal friends of mine and i know what they are like and it is certainly not how they have explained them to be. sure they are friendly but every bar you will go in they are friendly(thats what greeks are like)have you been to laganas also known as slaganas for one reason in particular, if not don't slate the down under guys cos they could never be like that.

Just got back from 2 weeks of pure fun in Kalamaki. Nick, George, Carl, Adonis et al - you guys made my holiday! (as in evidence by the photos!!!) i really liked this bar!! reminds me very much of the bar walkabout we get in england!! part from the fact the barmen are much more of a laugh in downunder!!
the cocktails are lovely! and the staff were very friendly and always happy!
and the kangaroo was just so funny and really bought in the customers!

Second time w'eve been to this bar and its better than last time. Errol was absolutely funny, he made down under the place to go without a doubt. If ever there was a reason to go back to Kalamaki then this has to be it. This is one of the best bars i have been to. It has the friendliest bar staff in kalamaki. Being greeted every night with a hand shake will always make you feel welcome.The fire breathing is shere magic. Our first night we were having dinner next door and spotted the flames and jus had to visit and we weren't dissappointed. Go there, Hi to Nick and the Guys.

Can't understand what the fuss is about. This bar is in a poor location, overlooking the road with tacky furniture and an equally tacky clientele. Nothing special that you couldn't find in every bar in Blackpool. And the toilets were filthy.

This was our 2nd visit to Kalamaki.The bar staff in Down Under were great,but our visit there this time was ruined by the arrogant, obnoxious "skippy" who does not know when to stop with his larking about( which can be fun up to a point). We sat in the bar and he came behind me and tipped my chair right back leaving me stuck, chair on the floor and legs in the air. He then walked off. When my boyfriend suggested that it was a bit of a silly thing to do, we were advised that "anything goes in Down under, that he had been working there for 3 years , and that if we did not like it we could F--- O--". We naturally finished our drinks and left, along with the people in the next two tables. We then had many a good night in Laganas and the Cava D`Ora where we had a laugh but were not insulted!!

In reply to the one called Becky Anniss, I may fancy James, but then I fancy most people, so its no big deal...... Becky had more than a soft-spot for Geordie, and I believe she refered to him as 'sexy'!! The whole place was fantastic and I shall be back for sure to prop up the bar in a drunken state!! Where else can you get 2 erect nipples and then perfect sex for 8 euros?!?! Well everywhere probably..... Love the place, love the guys, loved my holiday!!!!

Can I just say that this Bar is fantastic. I just got home from Zante today and I'm already pinning for the cocktails (2 erect nipples for 5 Euros - Baragin). Me and my Welsh gals came here every night of the holiday and that's got to count for something!
I also have to say, Geordie you're a little star, George you're a fire breathing crazy person and Nick keep trying; maybe one day you wont drop ALL the bottles.
To everyone at down under - you made our holiday and don't worry, we will be back (armed with supersoakers might I add, oh and James (dj from Bury, Manchester)- Hannah fancies you!

A grear place to chill with friendly staff.Spent most evenings there and my only advise is beware of Skippy he's unpredictable. All the bar staff at Down Under are really friendly and can't wait to return. A must visit for anyone in Kalamaki.

Just returned from a week in Kalamaki, and had a realy nice time, we visited Down Under on a couple of occassions and found the bar staff really nice and comical, especially trying to show off there bottle throwing when making the cocktails! very lively and good music, nice to sit outside and watch the world go by.
As a warning, beware of the man dressed up as a Kangaroo that terrorises everyone into going into the bar! he is mad!!!!

Can anybody tell me the telephone number of the downunder bar in kalamaki i need it urgently? or can anybody find it out for me or tell me the number of one of the bar staff?

Down under was the best bar for me and my mate in Kalamaki ever... We have been goin 2 Kalamaki for the last 7/8 years, and it is pur mint. the guys here used to be all down at Sofias, but moved to Down Under 4 years ago. Nick is amazin at cocktails, Karl is pure funny,Charlie (geordie) is proper good, and George is so funny, and just so lovely. good bar the oz are great, but go and see the kiwi boys woody and jimmy at sofias bar, they are f**king good!

To Matt I don't know how far your apartments are but even if they are on the other side of the island you have to go to this bar its fantastic :-)

Kalamaki is not too big tho so it shouldn't be 2 far to travel and the taxis are really cheap so you shouldn't have any trouble.

this is definately one of the best bars in kalamaki we visited it a few times but just coudn't be dragged away from the Angels bar a special mention to the crazy kangeroo u 1 mad man from driving scooters to picking babes above ya head and spinnig them round. But overall a good bar and very lively especially when the doors close!

down under bar is class me and me mate jo went every nite and even bought the t-shirts im gona put sum pics on so that geordie and james r on.James is a bit cruel he kept makin andy strip so keep ya eyes on him lads,lasses wen he tells u, u can hav a 3 drink jus too dance on the bar dont beleive him coz u hav to show the whole bar ya thong as jo wud know coz she won!!!! this place is class and has to be the best club in kalamaki love lisa nd jo *mwah*

down under is just great! we only went 3 or 4 times, but was never disappointed !we always went quite late on,so never really got to see the 'entertainment', but the barstaff always kept us entertained!can say they coped excellently on tuesday night(15th july) when laganas shut down...literally...all the laganas lot came to down under-absolutely packed and there was staff from elsewhere coming to help out,bless em,they really are all like happy families out there!oh,and a tip,dont go dancin on the wet bar with a drunk bloke behind you-it hurts when u fall off!!

By far the most lively bar in Kalamaki, i paid 4.50 euros for a pint of what looked like John Smiths , pulled like John Smiths but tasted nothing like it.Good selection of new release movies at 3 pm and 5 pm every day and good fast efficient waitress service to you table for your drinks order if you dare not to go to the bar for fear of getting your eye put out when showered with huge chunks of ice chucked by the barmen, one of them very nearly got a clip.
Overall id recommend it music was good and other drinks were cheaper than the "John Smiths" and the place was always full which cant be a bad sign can it.

Down under is the dogs dangly bits. It has to be the best, most fun, friendliest bar in Kalamaki. This place isn't just a bar... it's a whole show. All the staff do their job well and keep the punters amused for hours. Even my five year old son insisted on going there most nights. The prices are cheap and it was walking the length of Kalamaki each night just to get there.

I'd reccomemnd a couple of Down Under Special coctails to anyone.

Down Under is easily the best place for a night out in Kalamaki.

I'm damn gutted that we're not goin' back here this year. Oh well I get to do sod all, I practically lived in Down Under for 2 weeks last year and the year before that! Excellent bar staff the best ever. Went last year and might go back this year. If you want to party you can do it here. If you just want to sit alone without getting disturbd in a corner enjoying your drink you can do it here. Great place with great staff who knows how to handle all there different types of customers. There is no place like this.. its great, friendly and so easy to like.

What entertainment! This is a great bar - friendly staff and Tom Cruise-styley cocktail shaking! I'm sure later in the evening and in the height of the season this is "THE" place to be seen - but when we (a couple!) went it was a nice, lively evening with GOOD cocktails!

Well you must not have got to know the barmen! cos they are really nice, and they would never con you, and fair dues, angels is good too, but there usually aint that many people in there! the down under is fantastic!!

We drank with you Nick every night that we were in Kalamaki and loved it so much that next tuesday WE WILL BE BACK! simply because we have missed you. hello how are you lot its sami i came here with my mum, martine, and her mum bernie, alot has change since we were last here, me and martine are no longer best friends, her mum dont like me and to be ohnest the feelings mutual.
but i wished i hadnt fallen out with my best friend, but life goes on i have still got other friends and i still have my other best mate. im moving too i think its best to get away from them all!

We were put off going into this bar for most of our holiday because we didn't like being accosted by the mad kangaroo everytime we passed. But on our last night there was a band playing - three guys - who sounded absolutely fantastic, so we had to try it, and we were glad we did. The guy making the cocktails was great entertainment and they have the whole 'holiday thing' down to a fine art. Great for a good, very loud, night out.

We ventured in once on the holiday, placed right next to Taz's take out it had kiddies in the garden at the front, and is what I'd call more of a family bar/club!! The music was either a band or karoke but just not what I choose to go out and party too ( a bit too rocky for me). Drinks were expensive but found this all over in Zante but that's our choice of drink, JD or Budweiser!!

This bar is great. Went in high season and have to say that i didn't notice any kids sprawling everywhere and i was here virtually every night for two weeks. The bacardi tasted fine to me and I do drink it normally, the cocktails are lovely esp the dingo blue and georges barmans choice. It may be a little more expensive than some other bars but to me price of drinks is not as important as the atmosphere of a bar if paying a bit more means i'm guarenteed 2 have a fantastic night then i'm not 2 bothered.

2 chris have u got shares in angels and mermaids or summat :-) its just that u seem 2 be on this site about 3 squillion times raving about the places yes i agree they are both great places but seriously!

well i cant believe some people moaning about the age group in here, im 42 my wife 35 my son is 12 and we all had a great time and we where with friends the same age group, you are on holiday remember. bar staff are great laugh. maybe you should just sit on your balconies and read a book(101 ways to by happy). sorry , just a thought

We wnt in once and found it dearer than some places, the music was good (be it a little loud)there were a lot of younger ones there! i felt old and im only 32. Would very much appeal to the younger age group, not my cup of tea. But if you want a good laugh, get sloshed and maybe even pull then this is the place.

to nat the end of the season is the 2nd week in october a good time to go as things are cheaper but you will find that a lot of places such as the gift shops shut up that little bit earlier. We went last year on the 12th of october and had a fab time

jon collard, what the hell are u on? This bar was fantastic we spent virtually every night here. The cocktails are fantastic as is the atmosphere and u couldn't get better barmen if u tried.

p.s does anyone know when Down Under closes for the season is it the end of oct?
